Him not wanting to get in the car makes me wonder if he was dumped out of a car, or fell out of a truck bed. I don't think I've ever met a dog that wouldn't get in the car. Good luck!

Have you tried getting in the car first and seeing if he'll jump in the other side?

Do you have a Facebook account? We have tons and tons of lost and found pages here in PA by county. Where is this dog located?

Yeah that's what I tried all morning sitting in the car and easing him in further and further. Even tried bribing him with doggie jerky. He wanted to get in so bad but wouldnt' do it. Tried with one door open, both doors open, tried in the hatch, seats down, seats up. Not happening, I thought the same thing, that he was dumped or jumped and that's why he doesn't want to get in. Jumping out would explain his leg injury too. Pretty sure he'd go in if someone got behind him and boosted him the rest of the way in to persuade him but I'm by myself doing it so can't be on both sides. Didn't even bother trying to leash him, knowing he doesn't like baths or being loaded my guess is he's never been leashed either so didn't figure it was worth stressing him out over it.
Well I called the rescue and let them know that I couldn't get him loaded, she said the only golden she's ever had that wouldnt' load had been thrown from a car. They are going to take him even though I couldn't get him in for a scan. Waiting for a call back from her or her sister (whichever one will be making the trip). They are coming from St. Louis so they have quite a drive to get him. She said he will go straight to their vet and no matter what problems he has or what the cost is, he will be fixed up.

I'm glad to hear he has a new home. Goldies are the sweetest - loving dogs.
I bet he was dumped. We live semi rural, and dogs / cats get dumped all the time. I hate people for doing that.

So what's the scoop? He wasn't returned to whoever dumped him, was he? (Hoping it's a case of accidental lost.)

Sorry my dog was being needy, she's happy to be alone again LOL
It turned out he wasn't dumped he wandered away from his house sometime Saturday. They looked for him but didn't think he'd come this far. His leg injury is actually a paw pad injury that he's already under vet care for. Explains why it was hurting him so much after walking all this way on it. His owner said he had a collar on when he left so no idea what happened to his collar. My guess is he got I caught on something coming through the woods or on a barbed wire fence and pulled out of it.
He has a little girl at home who's been crying her eyes out over him being gone so he's going back to a happy family. Called the rescue back and let them know his owner showed up so they didn't need to come and get him. Luckily they weren't on their way yet.
What's funny is I've been calling him Max and when the guy got out of the car he said hey Max. I said what did you call him? He said his name is Max. I said that's what I've been calling him, he looks like a Max LOL
Wouldn't be surprised if he shows back up here since it seems like they just let him wander and don't have a fence or anything.

Yeah you'd think so but it didn't seem like it. He did say he'd be putting on a new collar with tags and his phone number. They said usually when he isn't home he's at the neighbors on their porch. They are very lucky he didn't get shot, which is what they were worried happened to him. The farmers around here don't take kindly to stray dogs in their fields, too many run in packs and kill their calves so they tend to shoot on sight if they see one.
Common sense tends to be lacking with pet owners around here.

His owner drives a truck and no he lifts him into the front of the truck. Max put his front feet up on the seat and he picked him up and put him in. Guess that is what he was waiting for in my Journey, for me to pick his butt up and put him in there. Not happening LOL

Yes max was happy to see him. Went with him no problems. He did run back real quick for one last scratch from me which I thought was adorable. As you can see Bella is happy max is back home too. Most relaxed she's been in days. She's such a brat.but cute loveable brat.

Great story with a happy ending. Cue Twilight Zone music about calling him Max.
We adopted a cat through our vet when my kids were young. Before we permanently picked her up, the kids and I were tossing names around. I liked Prudence, although the kids voted it down. When I went to pick her up, I overheard the girl at the desk telling someone else in the office to go get "Prudence". Turns out she was found by a realtor in an unoccupied house she was listing. The realtor worked for Prudential, so the vet's office had temporarily named her Prudence. I couldn't believe it.

That is so funny Terri, some pets just look like certain names. Prudence is a great cat name. Hopefully Max will stay home where he belongs now, he may not be so lucky next time. Wanted to say thank you all for your ideas and offers to help. Really appreciate it, I'm sure Max did too.

Great ending! I hope they get a fence and take better care of him. If he was full of ticks and fleas and only lost for 2 days, makes you wonder??? Anyway you and your family are awesome and if any other dogs get lost I hope they find you guys again. I know you wouldn't be happy! LOL

Yeah the flea and tick thing bothered me too. He didn't get those between leaving their house and here.
His neighbor saw our ad on the shelters website looking for the owner and called him and then he called me. He was here within a few minutes to get him. Hopefully this was a bit of a reality check for them.
I wouldn't mind another one showing up needing help but poor Bella may not be able to take it LOL Dh says all the strays around find me because they know I'm a sucker for them.
