We had what looks like a male golden retriever show up on our porch last night, he refuses to leave. He's hurt, with possibly a broken front leg, he can bear weight on it some but you can tell it hurts him. The only shelter we have here has no opening for at least a week and couldn't care less that he's injured and hurting. We've contacted everyone we know and posted all over our fbs and can't locate an owner, thinking he may have jumped out of the back of someones truck traveling through.
He's so sweet and loveable, all he wants to do is give you kisses. I just spent almost $500 on our own dog at the vet a couple of days ago for her appt. No way I can take in a dog that isn't even mine. He's covered in fleas and ticks. Bought some armour shampoo but he's scared of the water coming out of the hose and I don't want to stress him out with his injury so no bath. Will have to go back and get some treatment and see if he'll let me put it on him.
I'd guess he's un neutered by the way he's peeing all over my yard UGH
I got one of the news stations to share him in their lost and found section but they are over 70 miles away so unless someone wants to take him (with vet bills probably not) it's doubtful an owner will be found from there.
Not sure what else to do but look at that face, I have to help him

How about a Go Fund Me Page? Where do you live? I'll help any way I can. I have a blondie too!

No I'm in a tiny town, we dont' even have a local craiglist here. I left all my info with the shelter and with the news people and the local stores. I can't do anything with the vet until tomorrow when they open. I just hate to think of him being out there another night with no family and in pain. I fed him and watered him but not much else I can do for him.

Stephanie DD and I were talking about a go fund me page but honestly I have no idea how those even work.
I'm really surprised my dog is doing as well as she is with him around. She doesn't seem to mind he's out there. She doesn't want anything to do with him (though he wants to play with her) but she's not even so much as growled at him when he's come up to her on her way to the fenced yard. Of course the kids are in love and want to keep him but there is just no way I can afford to take on this dog with his potential bills. Heartworm is a worry around here too, not sure if he even has basic shots.

DH was the one that found him on the porch last night when he was coming in from work. So funny, I got a text at a little after midnight:
DH: there's a dog on the front porch
Me: OK
DH: I don't know if it's mean
DH: It's a pretty dog though
Me: Let me peek the door open and I'll see what it does
DH: OK
ME: (open door a crack and instantly get attacked by licking) I think you are safe!
LOL

Just went out to move the lawn chairs into the fence pen since it looks like it's going to storm. He came running up to me using his leg for the most part so don't think it's broken. It is pretty swollen so maybe a bad sprain or bruising if he got hit. Any idea what a set of xrays will run? Never had to have any taken at the vets before. Maybe I'll pull up my offices fb page and see if they have an after hours # I can call and ask.
The closest CL city is about 45 minutes away I think, I'll pull it up and see if any local ads show up on there. We had a free cycle but they closed it down a year or two ago for no interest. I was hoping with the kids sharing on fb one of their friends would recognize it but so far no one does. We had a corgi show up several years ago, same situation, he just popped up one day, never could locate the owners, no micro chip, we took him in for grooming/flea and tick removal and got him his shots, did find him a good home after a couple of weeks.

When we bought my dog he was already micro chipped. We can feel it. You may be able to feel it near his neck / shoulder area.
We had a Yorkie show up at our back door, years ago. We called the shelter. His owners eventually called the shelter and they were reunited. He was a cutie. He was maybe 24 inches long and kept trying to get with my female dog who was about 100 times his size.
Maybe your dog is a little smitten but won't admit it? LOL

My dog is fixed so she better not be smitten LOL
Yorkies are so darn cute, almost got one a couple of years ago.
Lots of suggested lost dogs coming in on the news site but none that match up to him yet. I can't imagine he's been lost too long since he's such a good weight and doesn't have any burrs or stickers in his coat. He keeps grabbing stuff and wanting me to take it away from him. I set my bottle of doggie shampoo down to hook the hose up and when I turned around he had it his mouth grinning at me. Too cute for his own good.

Goldens are awesome dogs. I feel so bad that he's hurt. Our local grocery store has a bulletin board for announcements and things advertized for sale. Could you maybe put up a flyer and see if anyone would be willing to take him or help out in some way? DD found a cat a few weeks ago and found the owners that way.

I did get ads up at our gas stations, the other stores around are either not open today or don't allow ads posted.
It's raining out there now but at least he has the porch to stay on, it still gets pretty wet though. Hopefully it doesn't storm too bad, if the wind doesn't start blowing, he should stay pretty dry. As covered as he is in fleas and ticks, coming inside isn't an option. I'll take him out some food for dinner in a little bit. Get his tummy nice and full before bedtime.
I was hoping we'd have an owner located by now so he wouldn't have to stay out there again tonight.

Stephanie DD and I were talking about a go fund me page but honestly I have no idea how those even work. When we had the 'Felix' show up at our back door in January, then within 36 hours needed emergency surgery to the tune of about $1700 (with no owners coming forward [he had on a red collar]), we set up a GoFundMe page. My 17 year-old daughter did it. She did it in one day. She is rather computer savvy - but I think most teenagers are. And there are other 'crowd-sourcing' sites too, some that take less/no fees. Maybe your daughter could set up a page if you find you have vet bills you can't cover. Thanks to the support and generosity of so many people here, we raised almost $1000. I know I would help out.
Other than that, I don't know how else to help you. (Are you sure you don't need another dog?...)

Possible miracle in the works. We are waiting to hear back. There was a lost male golden in a state park about 35-40 miles from here before Christmas last year. The owners ran CL adds for months but as far as the news station knows they never found the dog. The only photo I can see of their dog is small so hard to tell but they seem to have the same facial markings complete with a few black dots over his nose, the coloring is right and the age looks about right but their had a short summer cut and he's all grown out so not an exact comparison. The craiglist email is no longer valid since the ad is down but they left a message on her phone to see if she found her dog or not.
How cool would it be if it was him?
If it isn't I think we'll set up a go fund me and see if we can get enough to take him in at least for shots and an xray on his leg, plus a trip to the groomer for flea and tick treatment and a bath, then go from there. Yes I am sure I don't NEED another dog but I have to admit I'm starting cave a little and thinking maybe........ LOL
I'd much rather he find his real owners though. I know they have to be looking for him, he's just too good of a dog not to have a family.

More good news, no word back from the possible owners but got a call from a rescue that saw the ad on the news page and they definitely want him. The rescue is based out of IL so they are trying to arrange a local foster to transport them to their place and get him the vet care he needs, then he will go to the main rescue to be placed for adoption. They already have a list that wants him.
So either way he is going to have a good home again. Hopefully I'll hear something from one or both of them soon so I can sleep easier tonight, knowing he'll be taken care of.
My poor dog is over having another dog around I guess. She's pacing the floor and won't settle down. She knows he's just outside the door and she's not happy about it, barks every time he moves around. Oh well she had gained some weight at her last vet appt. so needs the pacing exercise to work off those pounds. She can live with it for another day if she has to.

I am so glad that you found someone who could take him and take care of his needs.
I feel so bad for all those lost fur friends out there.

That's great that the rescue will take him. I didn't even think about a rescue. The one around here is hard core. Which is great! They will go anywhere at anytime to rescue a Golden.
I feel bad for your dog. I hope she calms down.

The Chicago foster fell through. She couldn't find anyone close enough that had room for him. But while she was trying to get everything worked out another rescue called and I'm going to call them back in the morning after I get him to the vet to make sure he isn't micro chipped, since they were closed today I couldn't check. If he has a chip then we will be back in the wait and see to try to get ahold of the owner. No return call or email from the one owner that lost their dog in the state park here so I assume they found theirs or are no longer looking to get it back.
I might have to go ahead and at least have the leg xrayed and a flea/tick treatment if it's going to be a while before they can get him.

I know some of us here would be happy to donate if you set up a go fund me type money grabber account.

Thank you, I'll see what I find out in the morning when I have him scanned. I'll let everyone know. Don't want to set up a fund if the rescue can take him right away, then they'll handle the vet care. DH is talking about keeping him. WTH No, uh uh no. We already have a dog and she was miserable all night, although I know she's adjust eventually. Gotta smack some reality back into him. LOL

No kidding, bliss. I even googled the mileage from here to where Peek is, but it's a tad too far for me to drive and come get him

If my dad and step mom we're so far away I'm sure they'd consider snapping him up too, they adore goldens. They've had the best luck with males too.

I would love for him to go to a boardie home but yeah I'm in the sticks, not many are close to me. Waiting for the vet office to open so I can call and see if they can scan him for a chip this morning. I have no idea if I can even get leash on him or get him in the car. Although I suspect he'll hop right in the car, not sure on the leash. I'll take him up without one on if I have to.
Everytime I turn around outside he's bringing me something, a food bowl, a stick, my tape measurer that was sitting on the porch LOL He's so goofy, DH came in again last night talking about keeping him. Think if he didn't have the hurt leg and those potential bills he'd be moving him in. Our dog is calmer today but still not happy he's around. She's snuggled up next to me on the couch napping now.
He acts like he's a house dog, keeps trying to come in. Needs a home where he can be inside and I don't think it would be a good idea to have him and my dog in here. No idea if he's house trained or not.

Just called my vet. The only girl that's in until 12:30 doesn't know how to use the chip reader. Seriously? My old vet closed down, not sure if there's any others in town. Maybe one, will look it up and give them a call. The rescue that's wanting him is a few hours away. I wanted him scanned this morning so hopefully they could pick him up today and get him seen for his leg. Dang it

Found one that will do it now. Wish me luck getting him loaded and driving with the goof in there LOL
Update: he won't load, refuses to get in the car so not sure how I'm suppose to see if he has a micro chip when I can't even get him in the car to take him to the vet. Maybe I'll take out some treats and try bribing him. Don't think it will work but it's worth a shot.
