Good morning, everyone! Spring is still lagging here with more days of rain than not, but temps are finally in 70s which are my favorite temp, especially with sunshine, which should be happening a few days this week. Don't forget Mother's Day is the 14th. Hope everyone has a spiffy week!
bad joke of the day:

The critter removal people are coming out again today. This is what they told the office: Ok. I’m resetting the trap this morning. I’ll check in tomorrow to see if we get anything else coming through the opening. Will likely need access to the unit to check out where the noises are coming from. Seriously? How about inspect the building a little better? Because the damn things keep coming in from somewhere. The trap may catch them once they're in but a trap doesn't do squat to close up the access spots. Sorry, but I'm annoyed and it's Monday I rearranged the office. I'm going to give it a week to see if I like it. I may end up rearranging again this weekend. But at least I have a view out the window that isn't blocked by monitors

I sure hope they take care of it. I agree what good are they doing if it's just continuous removal??!!
I had a nice shopping trip with my friend on Saturday. DH and I went for haircuts first and we left a little early so we hit a few garage sales. One was in a neighborhood that does an annual sale with a lot of participating houses. I had been checking lately (Neighborhood FB page, Neighborhood Buy and Sell page, Craigslist, Local paper, etc) because since the pandemic they've done it in May instead of April. So I asked the lady when is the neighborhood garage sale? And she said: This is it!! Oh man I had to miss it!!! I was so mad at myself for making other plans! I wrote myself a note that it most likely will be the first Saturday of May. I did have fun with my friend but I have to say she was rushing us a bit because she had other plans afterwards. And I'd be lying if I said that didn't leave me just a bit bitter Well next year I will know!
Sunday it rained most of the day so DH and I just stayed in and had lunch and a movie and it was very cozy

The cats seem to like the current office arrangement. There's like 4x the amount of window space on the desk that they can access. Plus they aren't constantly walking in front of my monitors, on my keyboard. I have more space to spread out any work papers I may be working on, without blocking the cat spots. Hmnnn. I may have to keep it this way whether I like it or not

The pest guy seems to have trouble with problem solving - he thinks catching the critter will eliminate the problem, like there won't always be MORE critters moving in.
The DH and I ended up going to the pub last night (Kraken game the night before and all the pubs would have been packed) after thrifting over at the White Heights (which we rabble call the ritzy side of the lake). We had good luck at the little Christian thrift but I turned over the entire big Goodwill they have there and found all of three items. The DH found three items, also, so it wasn't a complete bust.
This Saturday we have a family wedding, and I really don't have anything to wear to a warm weather wedding that isn't black - I mostly wear black. I was looking for a top to go with a pair of pants (black, natch) that I have but ended up dragging something out from my summer clothes that I have had since the late 1980s - a sleeveless cowl neck, but it's in fuchsia, so I'm calling it good. Fortunately, as long as one shows up clean, my family is fine with it. Being a clothing seller you'd think I'd have something I could raid from my inventory, but I'm like the mechanic who has two cars up on blocks.
It's supposed to get into the 80s this weekend - just in time for the half marathon. Uggghhhh... I did some heat training east of the mountains, but am going to have to do a little more this week. Since the event is on the weekend, it's taper week, but I'll do my best. Maybe I could go running in our 70 degree temps in a snowmobiling suit lol.

I have done something unusual. Signed up for overtime. I am working the required shift at graduation and staying until 11 PM. That’s 15 hours. That will be on my next pay. I am off Memorial Day because I am on vacation so I am working next Friday 3-11 (the 19). Hopefully that helps with my deficit this month. May work some OT this summer here and there unless hubby’s work gets busier. It comes in spurts.
Not sure if I am going to the reunion as I am having trouble with my hamstring, sciatic nerve or some type of compartment syndrome. Not sure I can drive that long.
Still hoping to get Hallmark ornaments out of the attic. Need to find time.

When my nephew got married a few years ago, I sort of panicked. My...ahem..."dress pants" didn't fit any more so I had to scrounge a skirt from my inventory. It was black and white and I paired it with my dressy tank top. Good thing this was a fairly casual outdoor wedding. But when I put on my "dress shoes" they literally crumbled to pieces! I hadn't worn them in so long that they disintegrated! The best I could do was a pair of tan suede sandals (it was either those or my sneakers!) Didn't really matter since most of the ladies took their shoes off as soon as the dinner was over and the dancing started! lol

At least one of the companies should have put a camera inside at the beginning. I hope I'm wrong, but squirrels and raccoons give birth early spring. Wondering if the mother was caught leaving a youngster inside alone which is causing the crying and confusion (squirrels cry). Also wondering if the raccoon you saw earlier coming down (or up?) from your building was actually waiting for prey as they do eat squirrels.

If the critters are up there for a while, they'll be using the floorboards and insulation up there as their "litterbox" - if this keeps up and the extremely hot weather hits day after day, there might be foul odors emanating across the crawl space area that may flow down into the apartments. You know how easily cooking odors flow from apartment to apartment or to hallways right through the walls. I would tell the management that this is now not only an extreme nuisance issue but also a health hazard issue.
Good luck with it Val!

I had an email from the apartment office this morning: I just sent him the update. They are a very good company it's very difficult to seal every entry point on buildings. They continue to climb up the sides and push in any opening no matter how small it is and gain entry. Seriously? It's going on three months now. Does no one do real inspections any more? Or like some of you mentioned, use a snake light to see what's going on? As for not being able to seal every point on a building, I call BS. I've been a renter for 45 years now, in 6 states, and never encountered critters in the crawl spaces. Many of those places were the same age or even older than this place, same type of contruction, most in areas with squirrels and raccoons, some had an actual attic, one was even manufactured housing (seems like it would be the easiest to get into). NO. DAMN. CRITTERS. So why can't this critter company gets its act together? Arrgggghhhh. OTOH, if they fixed the critter issue, what would I have to complain about and entertain everyone here about? LOL. Too funny. For some reason there appears to be a traffic jam in my complex in the drive here by me, with 4 cars waiting on a 5th one that stopped. They're all white cars too Debutant parade? The latest office arrangement from this past weekend is here to stay. The cats definitely like it. Ever since Sunday, there's been at least one cat in here with me at all times during the day. There's three of them and one of me - majority rules

I call b.s., too. There shouldn't be any size opening, regardless how small, to "push through" for anything to get inside the structure. SMH If that's a "very good company", I'd hate to to find out their opinion of a lousy one. Sorry you're still dealing with this, Val. Pisses me off, too.

Ran around all day. Doing my wash now. Busy week ahead and if I can get a few more hours of OT my next pay I should be fine. I hate OT but I have to do what I have to do.

This is a first. Critter is walking around upstairs over my office, living room and dining room. But it's daylight - it's only about 5:30 here. I've never heard it during the day. I turned in (yet another) maintenance request. The office is open for another 30 minutes, so hopefully they can get the critter folks out tomorrow. Not that it will make any difference.

Just hope it isn’t a rat. We had a rat fall out of a ceiling at work. Ugh. Luckily not our office. People had seen them running around in another admin/academic building.

We have thunderstorms, wind and possible hail forecast for tonight. Power company sent their usual "we're on top of things" email. What surprised me was the email from the apartment office telling us they're leaving both gates open overnight, to ensure the gates don't get stuck (closed or halfway between) due to power outage or flooding. .

Maybe all this rain will get us out of the drought of the past few years.
