Last time I went there was at least 5 years ago to get a pineapple corer because I couldn't find the one I had that I paid $2 at GW. Theirs was around $12. Since it was the only place I could find one, I reluctantly bought it. Cashier kept asking if I wanted to sign up for can't remember what and probably saw the look on my face if she asked one more time, I'd walk out empty handed. In hindsight, I should have because it wasn't long I went to get something and found my original corer. Store closed the following or year after that.
They were always too pricey for my budget and didn't help with TJ Maxx, Burlington, Kohl's and Gabe's around.

BB and Beyond is the first place the DH likes to go for anything for the house - we purchased some really nice bath sheets for cousins in our Christmas name draw, and they had a nice selection, though I noticed their stock was low. The staff were really nice. I think it was more financial mismanagement than lack of custom that created this, I'm trying to remember where I read the article.
ETA: For an area with money and lots of people, we have very few outlets of any kind, and the outlet malls aren't much of a bargain.

Me either. BB&B was way too pricey for my taste and Tuesday Morning stores here were way too cluttered and only open at certain times for a certain lenght of time. I think Tuesday Morning may have changes their ways but I never went back to find out.
IIRC fron an article that I read about BB&B, they did a big stock buyback instead of investing in merchandise etc. and then ran out of money.

I always liked BB&B for their bath towels. If the store didn't have the color I wanted (usually green), I could order them online and generally had good results. I always went there to exchange my Soda Stream bottles because they were so handy. Their kitchen gadgets were a little pricey but I could usually find what I needed without running around.

I was in one Saturday looking for a Brita pitcher, there was nothing on the shelves. I commented to BF it looks like they are getting ready to close, now Monday this announcement it was not a surprise.

They could re-organize and come back after the bankruptcy.

They could re-organize and come back after the bankruptcy. Possible. Experts speculate the brand name may be bought and brought back as online only, given that many of the store locations are already in talks for new tenants. The article discusses that. I didn't realize retail construction was down. Retail experts seem to think the overabundance of coupons that BB&B issued was the downfall. Customers got used to having coupons and didn't want to pay full price. Along those lines...I've noticed that Kohls is getting tight with the % off coupons lately too.
