Happy Poinsettia Day. Just remember it & a lot of holiday plants are deadly to pets.

Good morning, everyone! Temps are down to 30s to barely over 40 for highs and chance of accumulating snow later this week. Enjoying the lack of snow and ice while it lasts, even if it's overcast and sun is scarce. Christmas is getting closer so hope everyone has their shopping done or almost done and prepare to ship any packages soon. Hope everyone has a super day today!

Haven't done a thing to get ready for Christmas. No presents, no wrapping, no mailing, no nothing. Only thing I have done is buy Christmas cat shoes and that was just last week. Think I had fosters too late in the year to get in the holiday spirit. Plus I have been figuring out the rearranging of things here in advance of my cataract surgery in January. Have pretty much got it down except for the blind feral's room.

LOVE the kitty gifs, kritter! I'm putting my outdoor decorations up this Saturday, maybe earlier if I can get the unpacking done today. The apartment contest judging is 12/21 so I'll be in time for that. But I'm also leaving them up a little later than usual since I got such a late start due to the move. And I want to enjoy them. I think I might have company though. I noticed last year a lot of decorations were left up until the week after New Years. Since New Years is on a Sunday, I think it's more than reasonable to not take the decorations down until the next weekend I also need to finish unpacking today so I can find the various Christmas gifts I bought and get them mailed

My P.O. has a pretty small parking lot and there weren't many cars, but the lobby was full of people. Thankfully, I was able to get around, cut across the front and drop an almost 16 lb. package on the counter and exit quickly. The vibe wasn't there to check out VoA so just went large chain grocery store because they have a state liquor agency inside. Got what I wanted for DH, a few groceries and last stop was my local small grocery store where I scored some great markdowns as well as what I originally came in for. The older I get and longer we live in our apartment, the harder those steps are getting when lugging up heavy stuff. Still have a few things I need to bring up, but those can wait til later or tomorrow.
The only thing I have left to do is wrap DH's presents, which most will either be in gift boxes I've been reusing for years or use colorful sales flyers as wrapping paper. Call me cheap or whatever, but it's just the 2 of us opening gifts on Christmas Eve so I don't see the point spending $3+ on a roll of wrapping paper that's going to get torn apart and in the garbage. Besides, he only cares about what's inside and doesn't bother looking at what's on the paper anyway.

I like the gift bags, they can be reused. The older I get and longer we live in our apartment, the harder those steps are getting when lugging up heavy stuff.I hear ya. I used to get cat litter, cat food and distilled water delivered because they're heavy. Now I'm on the ground floor (woo hoo!) so I can lug that stuff in from the car. Unless I order it from Chewy, then it's an automatic delivery and no need for me to feel guilty I got a good deal over the weekend on some chairs for the living room. Said they'd be delivered Mon 12/19, then I get a message that guess what? They're being delivered Wed 12/14. Then another this morning that says hey, we like you so much we're going to try to deliver your chairs tomorrow 12/13. That one I have my doubts about since it's FedEx, but still, even if it's Wednesday that's earlier than promised. Woo hoo!

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. I've been busy with Christmas stuff, oh yeah and had covid again I posted that to the Covid thread.
I have my tree up, made some cookies, wrapped some presents and got all 3 of my personal packages mailed Saturday. In fact DD in Portland actually already got hers this morning!! I need to plan out my buffet menu for Xmas eve and wrap a few more presents. Mom and my sister will be coming next Monday for A Christmas Carol and lunch as I didn't know how long the covid symptoms would last so we rescheduled. DH is on vacation all next week so I'm sure he'll be some help with at least a few things lol.
Weather here has been REALLY warm but we are supposed to cool off Wednesday. I plan on finishing wrapping presents probably Thursday when it's cooler so it feels more festive.
My sister gave me one of the World Market houses for Christmas last year and I love it! I found a Halloween one on clearance when I went in November

I am pretty leery about going off the reservation and ordering things that I can't take back to a store here or are from private parties or private sellers through Walmart or Amazon. I try to avoid having to return anything anyway so don't take chances. I am waiting for markdowns or after Christmas sales. Stalking some of these cuties. www.homedepot.com/s/christmas%20deer?NCNI-5

We're having our December break coming up with some sun this week, though it'll be cold, below freezing at night (that's cold for here). If the roads don't dry out it'll be a skating rink - depends on from where the wind is coming from - if it's coming from the north through the Frazier Valley will be sliding around.
We did what little Christmas shopping we needed to last night - I have no idea what the DH wants yet but he has a choice from me - the framing project or hiking boots (since he asked).

My office moved the Christmas lunch from today to Friday 12/23. The sr partner had COVID last week and still wasn't feeling all that hot today, so he moved the date back. Another coworker is now out with COVID. I'd already canceled coming in today, so no way am I coming in for a late lunch that is actually around happy hour time on the last Friday/workday before Christmas in a popular and usually very crowded restaurant (we've been at this place before on basically the same day several times - last Friday before Christmas and it was always packed). I was going to take today off to finish unpacking, but the maintenance guy came to finish up all the open orders and was working on the kitchen light for quite a while. I decided to stay in my office, work while he was here, and take off tomorrow instead All is fixed except the water flow in the master bath tub. They have to get an outside plumber in to fix that one. No big deal, I do have a second bathroom so I'll just keep using that shower until the other one is fixed. Cats are still hiding. I told them the maintenance guy was gone but apparently they don't believe me. Guess I'll finish unpacking the kitchen tonight. It was cloudy and in the 70s here today. Looks like the same on tap for tomorrow, then a cold front moves in and we get a little more seasonal at 50s-60s.

The DH has a coworker who goes by the nickname of Kornfed (he's a big, burly guy). Kornfed LOVES decorating for Christmas. He decorated everyone's doors at the office, and this is his house. Enlarge the photo to really enjoy.

Not if it's led lights. They don't use all that much power. I LOVE the lights covering the roof!

Maybe you should coat the walls on your patio like that guy's roof, Val, for the contest.

It's too high for me to reach. But I do have one of those projectors that I angled up last year to show on the walls and ceiling.

Out PO ran out of stamps Friday. Luckily I had a stash of regular forever stamps. We both got our cards done and mailed. Been working some overtime at work. This Saturday starts our busy time with lockdowns at the college. I volunteered to work it but I am not killing myself.

What do you mean by "lockdowns", labby? My chairs are being delivered today. I just ordered them late Saturday night. I don't think I've ever received a large item that quickly from any retailer. Small packages overnight - sure. But this order is for two living room chairs. I've already warned the kitties that today and tomorrow will be hectic with lots of furniture being moved around I do hope the reviews are correct about the color.

I used to order my stamps through my carrier, but last year my order got lost. So now I order them through the USPS site and they are mailed to me. So much easier.

What do you mean by "lockdowns" Most students, except international ones or those with family issues, have to leave by noon on Saturday. We go dorm to dorm, floor to floor, room to room. We make sure the room is empty, the windows are locked, and we lock all doors inside and out. Dorms do not have elevators. Usually the kids have their beds in front of the windows. The beds are usually on risers. I told them I am not climbing on beds. I am going to do the upper floors where the windows aren’t as important. If the kids aren’t out, we give them a little extra time then we go back and make sure they are gone. After that, every day, we go into each dorm, pull all the doors and make sure the outside doors are locked. Later in the shift, we walk around each dorm. In addition, our shift checks the inside and outside of each academic building. We make sure everything is locked up. this goes on until Jan 15.

Labby - your description feels so much like the dream I had where I was a security guard - pulling on doors, walking around, making sure places were secure. In my dream it was nighttime.
Kornfed's photo was enhanced by the falling snow - those purple lights were so beautiful!
So far it has stayed above freezing here. I went to Orangetheory then afterwards went running with my running buddy - we hadn't been out on a night run for a LONG time and it felt really good. He had a date after our run and was a little nervous (he kept saying he wasn't nervous, so I suspected he was - understandably). I told him to just be himself and he'll be golden. He's the sweetest, coolest guy - I'm biased because we're old friends, but still... He said he'd let me know what happened, but so far he's sending me emails with cooking ingredients in them (we share recipes).
Rain is back this weekend, then the temps drop to freezing rain/snow. It'll be interesting around here, and I'm wondering if there will be at least one day where I do the 7-8 mile trek over hill and dale to a post office to mail packages because it's too dangerous to drive or ride my bike.

New chairs arrived yesterday (talk about lightening fast shipping!) and they're perfect. Mid-century modern style in a medium citrus orange shade. Not quite as dark as orange peel but in the same family, more like orange sherbert. Goes really well with my yellow stuff. I have a north exposure so it's not all that bright in the daytime and the orange & yellow really brighten up the place. IMO anyway but I LOVE color. The north exposure isn't as dark as north facing apartments I've had before though. I think it might be due to the light reflecting off of the many white garage doors on the building across the parking lot from me. I need to go by the storage unit today on the way back from Walmart and get two rugs out of storage. The narrow console table I got at Kohls arrives today, I'm using that for the TV. I ended up having to put the TV in one of the corners and the current TV stand is way too big for the space. I ended up putting the current TV console in the dining room - makes a really good sideboard Sunny and high 60s here for today and tomorrow. After that we get more Christmas feeling with highs in the mid 50s. Neighbor has the love birds outside today. The pattern seems to be they get to go outside on sunny, dry days with reasonable temps. I like hearing them, TBH.

My office is apparently going to be the favorite room in the apartment. I came back from getting a coffee refill and found Twila sitting on the windowsill, Trixie sitting in the short cat tree at the end of the desk, and Simon sitting in my office chair They all gave me a "what?" look

The phone was on my desk. They all moved before I could grab it. The only time I can get pictures of the little devils is if I have my phone on me, or very close by (like on the end table while I'm sitting on the couch). And even then I have to move very slowly and quietly or they figure out what I'm trying to do and scatter Maintenance just came by and told me a second plumbing company will be here Friday morning to fix the master bathtub. It's apparently the cold water and whatever has to be done on the outside line isn't something the plumbers who came today can do. Whatever. I have a second bath and that tub/shower is working fine. I'm good Gorgeous day today. Beautiful blue skies and sunny. It's been partly to totally cloudy for the past week so this is nice.
