Didn't ebay always stop you from using first class if your weight on an item was over 15 oz? It let me use first class on something that weighs 4 pounds, and it sold. Not understanding why it didn't catch it when it always has in the past, I tried listing it again to check it, and sure enough it allowed it to go through.
I called ebay, and the gal was clueless (and she was not ESL). My options according to her--contact the buyer and ask them to pay the difference, which I can do by setting up a dummy listing and charging them the difference (which how the heck would I "ship" that), eat the difference in shipping, or cancel the order. No offer to let ebay know the check is no longer in place.
Ugh.

I don't depend on ebay to allow/not allow anything on a listing. If it is over a pound, I make sure that Priority is the shipping method.
Ebay has never been known for having their ducks in a row so depending on them to catch a weight/shipping method will not end well for a seller.

Your response is not the least bit helpful. ebay doesn't allow you to purchase a first class label when the weight is 4 pounds so it seems since the coding is there to stop it then, it would also be in place when you create a listing, which I believe it was. Am I wrong and it has never caught it in the past?

I also just automatically choose my own shipping options. The other sites, like Mercari like to choose their own at a high weight.

I also contacted ebay for business on facebook. The gal there understood that there should be a weight check for first class and is sending it to the technical team. She also credited me the difference between what the buyer paid and the amount I paid to ship it (I was able to use a large flat rate box so the difference to me was $11.70). She also said she would let me know what she hears from the technical team.

It won't let me list an item over a pound with first class. I just tried.
Somehow yours got through. I wonder what happened?

Somany, did you maybe use sell similar on that listing and not change the weight in the listing? I know I've done that a time or two.

I do, and I am thinking it has something to do with them--ebay isn't doing the check on them for some reason. I understand you can quit using them, but I don't know how to go about doing that. I need to research it but haven't taken the time to do it yet.

im revising for the 112,995th time and im doing it on ebay....it seems to have something to do with shipping policies. all of my weights are correct but it seems like all of my ended listings were assigned to first class. that said, i just sold an UNrevised (so unended) blazer and it correctly charged priority. i know they were all correct when listing.
and ebay IS prompting that shipping is INCORRECT when trying to schedule or launch so there is some flag there. the weight is triggering that.
im reasonably sure its something ebay did, not me.
