My Sis is active in union stuff and heard about some Etsy sellers that are forming a guild. Interesting concept. I stopped selling there a few months ago and am not planning to return but I wish the sellers involved in this good luck.

Everything changes (and usually not for the better) when founders get greedy and go for an IPO. Once the company is public, employees, sellers and customers don't matter. Only the "shareholder" does.
I applaud the Guild and I hope it's successful.

Etsy and their hypocritical 'make commerce human' schtick doesn't really care much if sellers stick around or not (which they call 'seller churn') - they'd do well to listen a little more. Even if the Guild could serve as an advisory body like the old eBay Voices, it would help. Etsy needs to do something because they're basically handing their site over to mass manufacturing.

And their search is the worst in business. I sell very little there and the last thing I sold--a bracelet, last week--the seller claimed the package came empty. Hmmmm...I really don't see how that could have happened (read that as no-way-it-happened) but she seemed like a nice, sincere girl and that's a fight you can't win. So I refunded, of course, and now I am running at a real deficit there. I keep the collection small and rarely attend to it because of that.

I've noticed that when I look at my Favorite Shops on Etsy, many of them are blank - nothing listed. Etsy just displays a message saying something like "This Shop Is Taking A Break". Uhmmmmm, I don't think so. They're gone for good.
