I bought a robe I really like, but the sleeves are slightly shorter than I want. I thought it was going to be 3/4 length and it's only elbow length. Fabric is a medium t-shirt feeling baby terry. More t-shirt than terry TBH. I was thinking I could buy some similar fabric and add a "cuff" to the sleeve, to lengthen it a bit. Thoughts?

Yes, you can add length to the hem. Another idea is to cut through the sleeve at about 9" from the shoulder and add a similar or contrasting strip of fabric, then add the bottom cuff back on.

LOL that's a bit more work than I want to do given I'd be dealing with knits. I looked at Joanne and their "apparel" fabric selections aren't very good. I may just buy a baby terry tee and use that fabric. It would be more than enough fabric and definitely cheaper than buying by the yard. Plus, more pattern choices.

That's a good idea, Val. My son will only wear long sleeves and has received souvenir and other short sleeve shirts as gifts (a nice Milwaukee tool rep saw him in Home Depot and ran out to his truck and came back with tee for him. He was so excited to receive it as he loves tools-Milwaukee especially). I sewed on the sleeves from an older striped long sleeve shirt. It looks like he has another tee underneath.

You should cut off the existing hem sleeve when you add the new length. This will avoid excessive bulk. It's best to use a ball-point needle with knit fabrics.

I didn't visualize what you were suggesting until this morning. That would be about the same amount of work, or maybe even less work. Hmnnn. I'll have to wait until the tee comes in and see how the colors work. I had to get a contrasting color but it was definitely cheaper to order a top in the same fabric that was on clearance (that way I also know the exact fabric I'm getting since I already have the top but in another color). Thanks ladies! It's been awhile since I've sewn anything and it will be nice to get back into sewing even if it is just to fix some sleeves.

I agree with the above! I would take down the existing hem and add the cuff. If it was me, I would choose a floral pattern with some flowers in the same shade of purple, besides other colors. (Maybe some aqua to match your office!) And if you want to get fancy, add a strip at the top of the pockets to match the cuffs.

I'm cheap, so I hunted around for the same type fabric that was on clearance I ended up with light pink. However, adding a floral contrast at the pockets that would have the lavender and pink in it would be easy to do. Thanks for the idea!

You would just need to hem the ends since the sides are finished. Then whip-stitch it on.
