My DH has had a total brain fart in that he decided we're having a yard sale this weekend. I think he forgot how much work our last one was without much gain AT ALL! If I had my druthers, we'd just donate/pitch everything, but his brain sees value in everything. He got that from his dad..."We may need this someday", "Someone else may need this someday", "This stuff is too good to throw away". I loved his dad, but he grew up during the latter part of the depression and WW2, so I think DH got this frugality/borderline hoarding from him. If I don't want something anymore, I sell it on Ebay or donate it. Trash gets thrown out. Anyway, this stuff is NOT coming back into the house. What doesn't sell gets donated. Or the new thing around here now is to have a yard sale and what doesn't sell you leave on the front lawn the next day with a big "FREE" sign by it until it's gone. Off to go price sh!t, um, STUFF now. It started raining at my last garage sale. I loaded up the car and dumped it all at the local thrift store. They could do what they want with it. Took a tax deduction. I have a few items I kept but can't figure out what to do with them.

I'm just packing all of the summer stuff that hasn't sold in 2-3 years and donating it. I know it was a strange summer insofar as mercantile goes, but I'll be 70 next summer and that's my deadline - basement needs to be cleared out of all but current sales items and I may quit working and write full time. It's curious - my dad grew up during the depression, but he was always a "throw it out" type of guy - I was the one in the family putting the brakes on just getting rid of stuff. He just junked everything that my mother had owned after she died - I couldn't even get back there in time to try to pick through it and see if any of it was salable to add to the family coffer! I think I got the 'hustle gene' and dad just didn't. Neither did my brother - when it came to dealing with the family estate after our dad died, I was beside myself when I was (as usual) excluded from participation, and gawd knows what my bro got rid of - I probably could have gotten good money for at least some of it and donated it to a good cause that dad favoured and in his name. Fortunately, bro kept some family mementos, mostly religious icons that mom had collected, and sent me photos and asked me what I wanted. I asked for the little sandstone statue of St. Francis of Assisi that I had always liked - he's standing quietly with "one of (his) sisters", a bird on his shoulder - patron saint of animals and the environment, who called upon 'brother sun and sister moon.' I didn't want anything to do with any of the other stuff.
We had rain over Labor Day weekend but it's back to low 70s and sun. We'll have another blast into the 80s this weekend (just in time for a hill climb race the DH is doing - oh boy) then back to low 70s. We tend to have good Septembers.

Just a quick check in, all is good but very busy with all the last minute wedding plans. I was out of all the wedding stuff until about 3 days ago and all of the sudden a lot of it fell into my lap. Rehearsal dinner is Thursday 15th and Wedding is Friday 16th. Wedding dress needs last fitting which requires that I am there because I am in charge of bustling it after ceremony. Just had DS suit fitting last night and my dress fitting is today. Trying to sell RV in the midst of all of this and was out in the rain yesterday washing it because I thought a salesman was coming to see it.
My friend of 40 years who is a bridal seamstress is doing all the alterations, she is the best but very disorganized and last minute type of person. I am the I want it in my hand a week ahead just so I don't have to worry type of person. Looks like last dress fitting is either Monday or Tuesday which is giving me and future DIL lots of stress because she is just like I am. I keep assuring her it will be fine but inside I am having a fit too.
I am a throw it out type of person, DH was a keep everything so I have been slowly clearing out the house and need to work on our 2nd garage next. Have been donating or trashing everything because I have no desire to have a yard sale, lol.

My dad was a toss it out person, but he was also lifelong military and you really don't want to move any more stuff than you have to. My mom was a hoarder. Sometimes I wonder if that was one of the (many) reasons they finally split up. I'm a toss it person. My mom couldn't believe I only wanted 3 things when she died. One was stolen before she died, but I got the other two and I think of her fondly when I look at the items because they remind me of her and good times. Isn't that how it should be? I did have to relax my clothing rules a bit though since COVID. Used to be if I hadn't worn something in over a year (clothes or shoes), it was dontated. I don't go anywhere now so I've given myself two years to toss. To prevent tossing of shoes, I've started wearing them around the house during my "work hours" If nothing else, it's an easy, comfortable way to break in new shoes I don't mind donating clothes but cute comfy shoes are hard to find and I am NOT tossing my cat shoes. I blame Kritter and Shirley for the cat shoe additions to my closet.

Val I had to do the same thing with clothes. Now if I am cooking dinner and having company I make sure to put a dress on so I look cute lol. I hate to give up cute dresses. My other rule is if I try it on and take it off and not wear it 3 times then it gets donated because obviously something is not to my liking about it. This year I put all my sandal in a box at the beginning of season and put an empty box next to it. If I wear them they drop into the empty box and I can keep them. Whatever is left in the first box at the end of season will be evaluated whether keeping or donating. I got rid of a bunch of glasses to make way for some very cute soup bowls I bought. I am having a ball cooking and serving dinner. Previously in my life everyone was too busy to sit at table and enjoy dinner and have conversation so I am really enjoying the different dinner time practices. We have eaten out on screened in porch that has never been used also. I like that things are different. Here are the soup bowls, they are really nice quality and good size. www.lakeside.com/product/sets-of-2-stoneware-soup-side-bowls/LS_40485

I purchase clothing in bulk and wear it out - so 6 pair of cargo pants (in different basic colours) at the UFO store, 6 pullover shirts from the Nike store for winter, five or six for summer, and a pile of workout/running/cycling clothing, and that's it. I have one dress and a couple of skirts. Everything gets worn until it wears out. I really hate clothes shopping. I've been trying to mix it up lately with some harem pants from Zanzea. The DH used to make periodic cracks about my clothing choices until one day he opened his mouth to make one and I held up my hand and said "I don't want to hear it - if you don't like my dress sense, then you may walk behind me three paces." Never heard another word since then.

I wear Relay for Life purple t-shirts around the house. I have 20 years of those free shirts. When Jaxson was little he was amazed when I would wear a pink Susan Koman t-shirt once in a while. He had dubbed me as the grandma with the purple T-shirts.
When I leave my house, which is mostly for chemo and doctor's appointments, I wear my Chico's Travelers outfits. Those things will last forever.
When my ex-MIL died, my ex loaded up all of her stuff and took it down to the corner of my yard on trash days. Her house is behind mine. She had saved so much stuff from her mother and grandmother - embroidered dresser scarves, dozens of needlepoint pictures, etc. And she also had 3 books from my city from the late 1800's. So after he would dump off a load, I would go down and dig through all of it and haul it into my house.
I have been selling that stuff for 10 years since she passed.

It's been so hot this summer I've avoided spending any more time than necessary upstairs. Today's only 74 so it's finally comfortable up there. I began digging thru my clothing to try and reduce it by half. OMG what a job, lol. I eliminated a huge stack that was waiting to be ironed (anything left can just tumble dry and be good enough). I have a huge stack that should/could be sold but I"m not sure I want to bother. The bed is stacked with jeans & tees so now I have to take a 2nd look & decide what to keep.
Once I'm done with my own stuff I'll tackle my workroom. But that will have to wait a few months- we're finally ready to remodel our kitchen. That's been delayed over & over for almost 30 years- it's way overdue!
Ack- break's over. Dang! Back to work :-)

I'm a jeans and t-shirt gal, or cutoff shorts and t shirt for the summer. We rarely go anywhere that needs dressier stuff, and I have A nice skirt and top outfit for that. But since my good dress shoes fell apart, I really need to get a new pair.
Sold $150 worth of stuff today just while setting up for tomorrow's yard sale! Thank goodness it was some of DH's big stuff that we don't have to put back in the barn! Hopefully we are still speaking after the next few days! Lol

I watched one of those clothing shows years ago and they said people like me, who had to wear uniforms at almost all my jobs, prefer to wear the same clothes everyday. They say having the same clothes is like having a uniform and it makes us comfortable. In my athletic gear you will find lots of duplicates or same things in different colors. Once I find something that fits and I like, I buy. I will buy 3 Adidas tshirts in different colors and maybe in different sizes🤣. Sweat pants, jackets etc. I know it is boring but it is easy.

LOL I had a total of 5 active listings that have been there forever and I sold 2 of them in the last 12 hours. Hope I can find a couple of boxes since I cleared out the dining room box hoard. One for $25 plus shipping and the other for $33 shipping included.

Hello, hope everyone is doing ok. Sorry to hear about your flooding peek We have been lucky and never flooded, but when it rains hard and long enough we get seepage in the master bathroom and even that is a giant pain.
Well, when it rains it pours, mom went and had herself a mild heart attack on Monday. My sister was just walking out the door to pick me up to go visit her and she got a call from the nursing home saying mom was having chest/jaw/arm pain and they had called an ambulance. She had a mild heart attack in her 50's and that's when she had 2 stents put it. They ran tests and put her on blood thinners. The dr said the stents are old and aren't as effective any more. Mom said she does not want to have any procedures, that she's had a long life. So they have her on blood thinners. They have her on Plavix, actually, which is what she was on when she had a brain bleed about 15 years ago. So my sister is taking her to the cardio for a follow up on the 20th and she is going to bring that up.
Her discharge papers also said that she has stage 3 kidney disease. I guess it's been developing over the last few years, she didn't go to the dr at all in 2020 due to Covid then had the stroke in Feb of 2021. So I guess there's not a ton to do about that. We told her, we just lost dad, you have to hang around for a while! We went yesterday and she was feeling fine and in good spirits. She had told my sister the boyfriend seemed to be "cooling off" on her, but then yesterday she said when she got back from the hospital he seemed into her again, so who knows.
And we had some severe storms on Wednesday and the people across the street and down one house had a a huge tree fall into their garage, a bit on the house too. It was quick but a very strong storm. It seems we are going to dry out for a while but we have had some much needed rain lately.
We went to VV last Friday, they did 1/2 off for Labor Day. And they are opening a new location pretty close, soon. Not the best area but we will still probably check it out.

I downloaded “joinflyp.com this week and submitted a lot. A few glitches getting information and using the site. When I asked for help they were quick to reply but response went to my junk mail so it took a day to find it. Has anyone else used this to move product? happy to post about my experience once I have something to share.
Mods, is this the best place to post this? Move it if you feel there is a better spot.

jesmelric - I hope your mom stabilizes! We've got smokey air and orangey light here again - the wind coming from the south is blowing smoke from the fires in California and Oregon. It's not too bad - some years we've had fires on the peninsula and its been dark and smokey with strange light. Kind of cool in a lurid way except for the damage it does.

Sorry to hear about your mom Jes.
Woke up this AM and everything is a weird yellow color- it's sort of like being in a sepia-toned color photo. Must be smoke from fires- apparently there's a bunch burning in Oregon right now. It was quite windy yesterday- that helped keep out temp down to a modest 89. Today's supposed to be 99. I'll be happy when the weather turns more fall-like. I've been on a clear-out binge and took 6 bags & 2 boxes to the thrift store yesterday. That didn't include the zillion bags still waiting upstairs from my bedroom blow-out. That'll wait for another day cause I'm going to hang out with DS & the twins later. Good times!

Packing up the truck with Mojo's bed and toys that he is taking with him to his new home. I think the big cats will be glad to see him go as he has gotten a bit cocky lately. He is running around jumping on their backs when they least expect it. So far no harm done but he is definitely on Terrell's and Chanel's last nerves. He is not a happy camper in the carrier so this is going to be a noisy 45 minute road trip. This has got to be my last kitten for 2022, right? Happy life, little one!

My daughter texted that she was taking my grandson to the doctor since he had mysterious brown spots on his feet that suddenly appeared. She sent pics of his feet and the spots are nasty!
Well, the doctor said that they appear to be stains from black walnuts. Then my daughter remembered that Jaxson has been putting the walnuts behind my her car tires so she could run over them.
Then he ran around the yard in his bare feet. His neighbor friend has the spots on his hands. LOL....boys will be boys....

We are down 2 on our shift at work. Both hired this year. It is going to be a pain until they can find people and train them. The job is no longer easy nor is it fun. Hoping the climate survey shows the upper mgt that they are underpaying us for what we do. One thing that is hard about the job is to leave what the college philosophy is to the college and just come in and do the best we can. They alienated everyone against us during Covid and we are trying to bring back our support.
The one new guy couldn’t leave “What the kids think of us” behind. He did not like the idea that the kids hung up “abolish campus safety” stickers (actual big 8x11 sticky stickers) on everything last Spring. There were no repercussions. I get paid either way. Did not let it bother me that 5 kids wanted to abolish us🤣.
The other guy was 75. He didn’t like being told what to do. We have a dispatch center with a big window. He sat in the back break room watching tv while working. That does not fly. I told the weak supervisors about 2 weeks ago. They ignored it until another supervisor told the one supervisor about it. He said something to the guy who didn’t like the way it was handled. He sat in his car instead of coming into work the other day. 40 minutes later he came in, threw his uniforms on the floor and quit. No great loss. Got tired of hearing him say “no one ever told me that”.
So we are 2 down.

<<The other guy was 75. He didn’t like being told what to do.>> Subtle age card play (or not so subtle) - some people really try to get mileage out of that one. It's getting smokier and smokier up here - not as bad as Portland but it's increasing as the winds keep blowing northward. We're headed up toward Canada and the DH has the Mt Baker mountain climb bike race tomorrow, and they're predicting hazy, smoky conditions. If it gets bad enough it's gonna be hard climbing that sucker at speed wearing a smoke mask - it's a 22 mile climb and much of it is relentless. My own ride will be jauntering out to a nearby town, drinking coffee and reading my book, and jauntering back lol. I'll probably be in more smoke than the racers but at least I won't have to huff along. Also doing some thrifting.

His behavior was surprising. He called the midnight supervisor a p**sy. He was insubordinate to say the least. All they were going to do was counsel him but he decided to throw his marbles and go home. And he was in good shape for his age. He could do most of the job but didn’t understand that we have to be at the desk. He missed hearing a fire alarm and a door alarm while he was in the back room watching tv. And BTW nothing prevents us from logging into an account on the work computer at dispatch. I don’t like to do it but some do. They forget to turn the sound down and try to transmit as a loud movie is playing.

Some of these gits give the rest of us a bad name!
The smoke us getting worse. The Bolt Creek fire near us is belching smoke and ashes. The race organizers will post if the race goes on. Hope it does!
It's our 18th wedding anniversary today and we had so much celebration beer that I have a feeling that some of us will be a little musty tomorrow at the start line. If we start.

Not to mention being a jackwagon not only normalized but celebrated in the last...uh...while. . No race - it was to be called off if the air quality was 150 or above. It was 175 when they called it at 4 am, 220 by 7 am start time. We're taking an easy hike instead.
