Happy Labor Day! Reminder- no mail today. Finally, I sympathize with those who do have to work today as I've had more holidays I had to work than not. Rained pretty much all day yesterday and looks like the same today. Hope everyone has a super day regardless of weather.

We are supposed to get flooding rains tonight. The ground is so hard it will just run off and settle in low spots. Working 3-11 so I just hope to get home ok. Rain supposed to be worse overnight.
Looking forward to cool mornings and getting out walking again. Been watching my breeder and a couple of others for a pup. I am on the list for one in the Spring and I don’t think he will have a litter before then. He is retiring soon. There is one south of Denise over the line that I have been following but she has a super long wait list.
My brother and his wife began their trek to Utah Saturday, I believe. They hope to be there the 8th and moving company will arrive sometime after that. I think they are making a bad decision but that is their business.

Labby, have you considered contacting one of the many Lab rescue groups instead of using a breeder?

Was cruising through Walmart and saw this. Had to have it. Is heavy weight pottery so will sit in my backyard all year. The eyes and the star are cutouts where the candle light shines through. I love it. May have to get another one. Maybe Terrell will let me put a sheet over him so he can be the same in real life but without a candle in his butt.

Labby, have you considered contacting one of the many Lab rescue groups instead of using a breeder? I follow a bunch of groups. We want one from our breeder. He is very reputable, is a show judge and has been in the field for many, many years. Lola, Daisy, Sheena and Gunner were/are rescues. I have been following the groups for a rescue girl but with 4 adult (neutered) males I have to make sure it will work. In the past I have had 2 that came in and did not work and had to go back.

I has been raining all day here.
I HATE deer! Last night they went on a rampage, actually walked onto my front porch and ate my geraniums, in spite of the deer netting.
Ripped through the deer netting fences in front of my house and munched on both of my blue hydrangeas and geraniums.
Munched on my Limelight hydrangea too. Must have been a buck since the highest blooms were about 8 feet high.
And also ripped out my one surviving zucchini plant that had baby zucs on.
WTH? The act like they are bears getting ready for the winter.

We are rain free this week but had flash flooding last week. Wound up with 1-2" in the house, only a couple rooms didn't flood. It was a mess that's the 3rd or 4th time since we moved here 4 years ago. I'm so over the flooding rains. 🙄

Sorry Peek. I will be tossing and turning and looking at the camera tonight because we are supposed to get 3-5”. I put 2 pigs in front of the patio doors to try to soak up some of the water if it heads inward.

I just have to watch because the younger dogs (Gunner in this instance) like to grab them. We buy them by the case.

I've never heard of them before. I need who me farm of pigs 😆
I spent 5 hours using my big shop Vax getting the water out while it was still coming in other places. Pigs would have been nice. Lol

They make different kinds. We use the sawdust ones. We could get the huge ones like they have at work but then we would have to move them. We have put some at the top too. Photo is blurry because the outdoor cameras are drenched. During Ida we had to man a small pump and pump the water out towards our side yard they goes toward a hill. It is ridiculous that the builder built these homes like this. My parents had water and now we do. Two sets of French drains. If we were younger we would move.

My flooding was caused because my handyman never cleaned out the downspout at the back of my house. I pay him to clean my gutters twice a year......
Now I obsessively watch that pipe coming from the downspout.
Labby-thanks for the "pig" explanation. Never heard of those. You had me worried...LOL.

Before we had our gutters replaced we went out and flushed the drains and the downspouts. They go into the ground. Then we had the larger gutters put on. Helped with some of our problems.
Right now we are getting a bit of a break before it starts up again.

My downspouts are all underground. My problem was assuming that he knew to clear out that one.

The kitties are all sprawled out and snoozing, including Trixie who is taking up double the desk space she usually does. They were all three flying around (and in Twila's case, I really do mean flying) and chasing each other. Up and down on the furniture, the cat trees, behind the sofa, even a lap over my desk. I thought two cats were noiser than a herd of rampaging antelope. I can safely say that 3 cats chasing each other are noiser than a herd of elephants racing the herd of rampaging antelope OTOH, they are pretty funny when they're all running around like that. I have a webinar in 20 minutes. It's on my calendar as IRA, and my first thought this morning was "why in heaven's name did I sign up for a webinar on retirement accounts?" I'd forgotten that I'd shortened Inflation Reduction Act to IRA so it would fit on the calendar. I need more coffee.

Barney was SNIPSA Face Of The Race in 2020 and now Milo is the second cat to win Face Of The Race in 2022. Looks like we might get a trend going here. No cats in the race in 2021.

My webinar was annoying so I left early. The presenter spent too much time making political comments (beyond the usual IRS rant one gets in tax webinars LOL) and didn't sound like he practiced this webinar. It's surprising given this particular presenter is usually very prepared. One thing did amuse me. Does anyone remember the big tax cut bill back in 2017 and all the negative press about Fortune 500 companies buying back corporate stock instead of using the savings for jobs creation? I never understood what benefit a company received by buying their own stock back. The webinar explained it. Long story short, it's loophole that allows companies to give stockholders tax exempt income, and is a way for companies to potentially manipulate future stock prices. Now those same corps have to pay taxes on that. LMAO. Hopefully the webinar this Wednesday (same topic) skips the political comments. The rest of my afternoon involves diving into the Medicare info I've received so I can pick a plan. Such fun. We're back to humid and low 90s this week. Bleah. Counting down the weeks to fall

Denise's comment was a reply to my post. I realized I'd posted on the wrong thread so I moved my post and hers, and they ended up out of order. Oops! Carry on. Looks like I have no choice but to assemble the new office chair today. Chairs are no fun to assemble so I was putting it off, but the current chair keeps sliding down to the lowest level and I'm having to raise it every 15 minutes or so. Off to find the directions.

OMG. I just unboxed the new chair. I bought what I thought was the smallest one they sold and it's still HUGE. I'm not complaining though. It's rated for up to 450 lbs and I'm no where near that, so this chair better last more than 6 months.

We went to a zoom session put on by the health services director on narcan and epipens. She was terrible. Just got told they are doing it again. She needs to find 2 videos that show how to use the brands we have. We all know those kinds of nurses suck during a true emergency.

The chair was MUCH easier to assemble than expected, and it's VERY comfy. Actually, it was the easiest one out of the 3 I've bought. Yay! It's heavy as heck though, and you have to support it on something to assemble it. I ended up using one of the raised cat beds since they were the perfect height I just ordered a slip cover from AMZ since the black chair looks very out of place in my apartment.

I am so lucky that my 20 (maybe) year-old Staples chair is still holding up. I don't remember when I got it really.
It has an accordion-shaped thingy in the back to hold up the back that is open at the top. When my grandson was an infant, he used to put his Cheerios into that opening. And I am afraid that they are still there.....8 years later. I am not strong enough to turn the chair upside down to see if I can get them out, though.
But they might come in handy if I ever run out of food......

My DH has had a total brain fart in that he decided we're having a yard sale this weekend. I think he forgot how much work our last one was without much gain AT ALL! If I had my druthers, we'd just donate/pitch everything, but his brain sees value in everything. He got that from his dad..."We may need this someday", "Someone else may need this someday", "This stuff is too good to throw away". I loved his dad, but he grew up during the latter part of the depression and WW2, so I think DH got this frugality/borderline hoarding from him. If I don't want something anymore, I sell it on Ebay or donate it. Trash gets thrown out.
Anyway, this stuff is NOT coming back into the house. What doesn't sell gets donated. Or the new thing around here now is to have a yard sale and what doesn't sell you leave on the front lawn the next day with a big "FREE" sign by it until it's gone. Off to go price sh!t, um, STUFF now.

Taking a short drive up to San Marcos on Saturday to meet the adopters of my last kitten. They live in Austin so we are meeting half way. Second kitten from this bunch to find their new home in Austin.
Now I have to turn my attention to getting Mia adopted. Knocking on wood that this was the last kitten family for this year. I postponed my cataract surgery until January as it has just been too busy to have it done next Monday as scheduled.

LOL Well, that didn't last long. When I took this kit over to the clinic for his rabies and microchip, I came home with a little 10 week old tabby that was trapped in an industrial area and the trapper didn't want to take him back there because of the area. He is not completely feral but needs some socialization time. Right now he is out in the cat pen to see how things go. This kitten season will never be over.
