My grandson has lizards, bearded deagons, frogs, fish, turtles, tortoises, hissing cockroaches. I get to feed all of them when they go on vacation. Don't be jealous.

SNAKES!!! I would've lost it! I know they're good for the garden etc but I'm not a snake person... don't even want to see photos of them.

Kritter, I think your reptilian friend is probably a Texas spiny lizard. They look a little like horned "toad" lizards but they have a long tail. They eat insects. The so-called horned toad is actually a lizard and has a very short tail and wider body. They eat ants. When we were children my brother & I kept some as pets for awhile. Every few days we tied some twine just behind their front legs and staked them in a big red ant bed so they could eat. After the African fire ants invaded they pretty much wiped out the big old Texas red fire ants and the horned toad lizards followed. Some Navajos in the four corners area told me they still had a lot of them out there. They call them "Grandfather".

We’ve had skinks around our house lately. I saw a solid black one scurry past the front steps last month and DH has seen the black one and a blue-tailed one in the same area. I’m not scared of them, but they are quick and unexpected, so it did startle me. DH is like a little kid with them, hoping to see one and giddy with excitement when he does.

I think you are right. He is a big guy for a lizard but the pics look like him. Since I have so many plants in my yard, he must have quite the insect buffet to choose from.
