It can be really hard to ID fur from pics, but my first thought is brown muskrat (there's also a more reddish muskrat). Beaver is generally a longer fur unless it's been sheared & yours isn't sheared. Squirrel will generally have a LOT of pieces, since the pelt is so small. Muskrat too, but not as much as squirrel. IDK if that's any help, it's just really hard to get perspective in photos & I'm not an expert, though I do know fur fairly well.

Those short thick quills make me think beaver, though. Muskrat is pretty soft.

Those short thick quills make me think beaver, though. Muskrat is pretty soft. It could well be, esp with those silver-ish guard hairs. Just looked a little short to me for beaver, but perspective in pics can be really confusing.
