I'm looking for a dress that will travel well and fit a multitude of purposes. Casual to dressy. I have never purchased clothing online before. I'm looking for opinions about this dress. www.ebay.com/itm/361188643182?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=630550375150&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I'm 5'2 and currently a size 12-14. The description states the model is 5'10" which means that the dress would probably be knee length on me which I like. I'm questioning if the gathered waist will hide or accentuate my hips. The V on the dress looks very deep but I think I can wear a tank or pin it. I'm hoping the all over pattern will fool the eye so my flaws aren't as noticeable.

I like the green patterned dress. It says in the description that the dress is 36" long. I'm 5' 4" and this would hit me approx. 2" above the knees. I do feel that the gathered waist and the type of fabric will be figure flattering. I'm personally not a big fan of deep v-necks, but only because I have some permanent sun damage in that area. I do like it on other people though, and I think deep v-necks are slimming.

I am 5'2" and wear a 36" in dress length hitting right at or slightly below the knee.
I am not a fashionista but I think the pattern dress would make hips look bigger more so than the solid color.

The problem I see with a print is your accessories. You don't want to have to pack extra stuff just to go with the dress.
Is the purse you carry a solid color or a print that will clash?
Do you have a solid color shrug or light sweater to wear with it when AC makes it too cold to wear alone?
Also the horizontal lines of this plaid are bolder then the vertical which accents body width and not height.

Similar height and size and I think the gathered skirt would make my hips look bigger and the defined waist would cut me in two making me look even shorter. I try to look for dresses that skim the curves but don't have a set in waist, unless it is an empire type "waist".

I actually have the perfect handbag and accessories are not a problem. But since the general consensus is that the dress would make the body look wider rather than taller it's an immediate no go. Probably for the best anyway since it's pretty pricey.
Thanks ladies.

Are you short waisted or long waisted? That makes a big difference in length/fit no matter what you buy.
Also, aren't you leaving on the 27th? You might want to shop local if you can, so you know you'll have the dress by your trip.

I love empire waists. It accents the smallest part of my torso.

I guess I am alone. I have a smaller waist and carry all my weight in my hips. I am always trying to hide my hips and I would definitely wear this dress, especially since the waistline is defined. Empire waist looks fine on me, but so do normal waistlines with a fuller skirt. I am 5'4 1/2" though.

That dress is adorable, but for that much money I'd want to try it on.

I'm 5'1 & short waisted & I would probably wear that if I were your size. My concern for travel, which I did every week for 10 yrs, is along the lines of Shirley's comment. Generally you want solid colored separates that can mix & match for travel. Of course if you have ez access to laundry facilities, then not a big deal. I think the waist would be ok b/c it nips in. But it is pricey, so I'd want to be sure I could return.

You could also try a couple of skirts, prints or neutral solids, with several tops to go over, opposite of skirts (print top/solid skirt, etc) . The poly/spandex fabric that feels like a tshirt washes well and hang dries pretty quick (here, anyway) and doesn't wrinkle. However, the rayon/spandex blend with the same tshirt feel is very heavy when wet and stretches when hang dried. Or that's how it's been with my plus size purchases lately, anyway.
