I'ts Tax Day. Long lines at the big Post Offices this afternoon, so if you have to ship eBay stuff, get there early! Hopefully you've filed your return, but if not, you can get the extension form here: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdfWhat's on your schedule today?

I'm off, woo hoo! Normally I work the 15th, but I had a client cancel and I did not volunteer to work at the tax office today. Ha. A little tax humor for all while I go fill out my extension form….

I am still cleaning and rearranging that I started yesterday.
Finally putting up the two new cat trees that have been in giant boxes in my living room since December. The cats have been using them for beds and scratching posts and I have been dumping my junk mail on them so its not like they were sitting there with idle hands.

Oh dear. The PO is by a good McDonalds. I may have to see if that location is offering the big mac special. Dang.

UPS delivered a big box from Lakeside Collection late yesterday so I am slowly unpacking that in between naps and putting together stuff for the yard. I love the solar peacock stake I got (from this thread: virtualsellers.proboards.com/thread/1282/strangest-flamingo-yard-art ) Got some other fun pieces too. Plus there was a new catalog in the box so I am looking at all the stuff I need, err, want. The cats are enjoying playing with all the boxes and packing materials, that makes them happier then getting new toys.

I worked at the antique mall this morning and it was sooo slow. I guess everyone was at the po paying their taxes. Now I'm so tired, it's gray and gloomy here, not really helping me. I really need to do some listing though. I just read somewhere(here?) that if you use essential peppermint oil on your hands, it helps with the afternoon slump. I'm going to try it!

I work for a CPA and I am actually out of my office for the day, released the last extension at 2pm and hit the road, yay. Oh my gosh do we have some procrastinating clients.
The most interesting situation was we had 2 single clients get "married" overseas, we prepared their joint return and the "husband" had to confess that he wasn't a citizen of that country and that he hadn't filed the marriage license in the states so we had to redo their taxes as 2 singles again. I really wouldn't want to be in that household this week, lol. Today is the first days in a few weeks that I have actually seen daylight from somewhere that wasn't my office window.
I love the cartoons, thanks I needed a laugh today I am exhausted.

Forgot my checkbook at home and owe state tax... Mentioned that I would need leave early to my boss and he mentioned that I could pay online. All paid up! But I was looking forward to leaving early, even if it meant a trip to the PO.

Last night I dropped packages off at the post office right after midnight so I wouldn't have to go today.

I went today in the early afternoon and there was nobody there.
I think more people have discovered the extension form so there is no lining up at the post office trying to beat the midnight deadline.

My sister and BIL are out of town and I went by this morning to pick up their mail and newspapers. The phone happened to ring while I was there and I picked it up without thinking. If I had been thinking I would have let it go to VM since he has a tax business. Yup, it was one of his clients. I told her they were due back today, but I had no idea how late it might be or if he planned to do any business today. She said, 'You do know what business he's in, don't you?' I said, 'You do know what day it is, don't you?'

I had to have my taxes done by the end of Jan for my Medicaid review. Mailed their $660 last week and it has been cashed. Glad that is over with.
After a shopping trip to WM, I uncovered half of my garden that has deteriorating weed cover over it from last year. So most of the pine needles are now on the ground. No wonder my poor veggies struggle, the dirt is full of pine needles. Note to self: buy lime.

I filed my quarterly today and filed state B&O last night - I try to do everything online but mailed my federal taxes in because I need some lag time for funds to clear. We paid our federal taxes for 2014 last week so that's done, both household and my business. I don't get the long line at the post office - why don't they just drop it in the mailbox? But sure enough - it was out the door. I was actually shocked to have one sale today lol.
It's just a regular work day for me - photo, list, laundry, iron, pack, etc. I like those regular, normal days.

Most CPAs recommend that you mail it certified or at least get a proof of mailing receipt just in case it disappears in the mail you can prove you really did mail it. It gives the opportunity for your CPA to request an abatement of penalties and interest if needed, you would have proof that it was mailed on time.

I usually mail mine in a flat rate PM envelope, so I'll at least have the delivery confirmation.

Got our taxes done online & e-filed this afternoon; got texted that they both were received. Technology has sure changed tax prep for the better for me. No idea why but we're supposed to get a refund this year... first time in 20 years! I still have one more tax thing to do- DH's Portland/Multnomah taxes, but their form is gibberish!! Think I'll file an extension and deal with it next week. It was crazy at the PO when I dropped off 2 packages, but because of all the people coming & going it was still open a few minutes later than usual... lucky thing for me.

LOL! THIS RIGHT HERE! I cringe when I hear my friends brag about how much money they got from the government LOL! I'm like "Stupid, it was your money to begin with"! I got mine done on Sunday. Normally it's super duper easy, but we had a move, a house purchase and 3 universities/tuitions between DH and DS. It was such a relief to hit that submit button!

Liz, I just had this same discussion with the boy/man across the street. He and his girlfriend were so excited to go on a shopping spree with the tax refund and I told them it was their money the government just returned it to them because they had paid too much...it wasn't free money it was money they worked for. They looked at me like I had 2 heads or something. I explained that if you are doing it right all that money should go into your pocket during the year and not let the government borrow it, it is better to get a little refund or even owe a little then you know you have your withholding correct. I am always surprised that people don't know this.

Yeah, people don't think it thru and don't realize they're giving the govt an interest-free loan by not having withholdings set correctly. In our case tho, we were in the red, owing the feds about $1000 which is normal and what I expected. But when we got to the new mandatory health insurance form and I punched in the figures for the help with our premiums that we'd qualified for, the numbers all turned green and they owe us $2000+. Don't understand how that happened; we won't see the money anyway so it doesn't matter. If they accept the figures and apply it to the past taxes we owe them, we'll be happy campers!
