Looking for a winter jacket. I usually buy men’s coats but heck the hip/waist area is a problem because I have an abundant behind.
I read up on all the sites and many are stating the recommended coats are cheap, rip or the zippers fall apart.
I came upon Filson. I think I can wear a women’s XXL or maybe a men’s L or XL (most likely a L)
trying to figure it out. Was looking at a women’s Moorcroft coat or a men’s Arctic down.
do they go on sale or have an outlet anywhere?
Thanks.
researching Barbour too but it looks like they run in smaller sizes for women.

I thought Barbour was a higher end brand, no? Never heard of Filson.

I don't know anything about Barbour but Filson is popular here and has a good rep. It's out of my price range, though - I go with Columbia. I have a Gore-Tex parka which I've worn for almost 20 years and on many a rough hiking trip, including backpacking for weeks at a time. It has never let me down - it has a zip-out fleece liner and pit zips.

Yes Chap. I have a men's Columbia jacket with the fleece liner that I love but it is men's and kind of tight just below my hips (I am short so it sits odd on me. I did a lot of research yesterday and found many complaining how cheap the Columbia zippers are now of days. If my men's jacket had two way zippers it would be better.

That's a shame because it has always been the brand for hard outdoor use here and zippers are a pretty big deal! I wear a lot of men's stuff but my parka is a women's parka and bells a little over the hips.

Have you considered going up a size? I usually size up with jackets to leave room for a fleece or hoodie underneath if it's really cold out. A size up also leaves more room around the hips, too, as well as better arm movement when layering.

Just have to pull the plug.

My husband has a Filson winter jacket (3/4 length)....down fill I think. Its really old...it has lasted an incredible amount of time, and he is really hard on clothing. He swears it's the best thing he's ever owned. One bad thing though...it cost more than my first car!! I think its an XL...if you want I can take measurements. I am not sure if they ever have sales, you can probably see on their website.

I was looking at one of my bosses the other day. He was headed home. He was wearing a Filson Tin Coat so I was able to try it on for size. Now I know if I decide to get one what size to get. The women’s size XXL is comparable to the men’s XL so I might give it a try.
