Do vintage Michael Simon cardigan sweaters always have the interior buttons with an external decorative button?
Or am I mixing this up with another maker.
Just not sure if the prior owner removed the interior buttons and went with using the exterior buttons only. Or if this is how it was originally made.

The interior/exterior buttons are mostly identified with Storybook Knits.
Some MS sweaters may have the interior/exterior buttons but it is not as common as it is on the Storybook Knit sweaters.

Too funny, I'm sitting here ready to list a MS sweater. IDK if it's vintage, but it does NOT have internal buttons & it is new.
ETA: And yes, SB Knits usually does.

The older holiday MS sweaters occasionally have the inner/outer buttons. I used to be a MS and SB Knit fanatic and, much to your surprise I am sure, especially the ones with cats on them.

I love MS sweaters. The gaudier, the better. Thanks, all, for your help. I run across more SBK than MS so apparently I mixed up the makers with a faint memory of interior/exterior buttons. Appreciate the help.

I miss the SB and MS sweaters. The Christmas ones were so much fun to sell - you could write an entire fictious story in your listing text about the holiday and cat themed ones. I swear, the better the story, the higher they'd sell.

The early MS sweaters were the best in terms of outrageous and wonderful. The recent day ones are just not living up to their ancestors. the cat sweaters were amazing and I had quite a collection.
Storybook Knits went awry when Jamie Gries left HSN. She started a website which never really went anywhere. she went back to HSN in 2015 but only for a short while. Never found out why she and HSN split but it was too bad for her followers.
