Listing was free shipping and free returns, but when I requested the return, I got the message "We'll send you an email when the seller responds to your request. If you have not agreed on a solution or the seller has not responded by Oct 09, 2020, you can ask us to step in and help." I definitely chose "doesn't fit" because it shows "doesn't fit" a little further down the page. (They were not as described but because it was free shipping and free returns, I didn't bother with SNAD.) It's weird and wrong that I didn't automatically get a return label, but the only thing I can think of is that there might be a choice for the seller to select in case they don't want the return (like, for instance, if the shipping was more than the item is worth). I would think ebay should say that because I'm left wondering WTH. I'm going to wait to see what I get from the seller before I call CS. Has anyone had this happen before?

Maybe they have to give you an RMA. I know there's an option for sellers to do that. It's just a guess tho', I've never returned anything.

The seller gave me a refund of about half of what I paid, stating I had tried them on. What??? I opened a case and let them know the seller misrepresented what they were selling as well as what they were offering (free shipping and free returns). This better be a slam dunk or I will be very pissed. I guess we now know how sellers can scam the system.

You still have the item? And you got half your money back?

Yes. It does not fit, and I do not want anything else to sell so I want to return them as stated in the listing. You can’t offer free shipping and free returns and not honor it. If their sales are higher as eBay’s claims is the case when you offer those things, then taking the return is the cost of doing business. I don’t offer free returns so don’t get the boost in exposure and therefore sales.
I paid ~$20; they refunded ~$10. It could have returned to them for $7.52 in a PFRE and they could sell it again and be better off than giving me the refund they did.
eBay issued a “courtesy” refund. That is really not good terminology when a buyer is already upset that the seller was not honoring their commitment.

That reminds me of these sellers who SAY they have a 30-day return policy, but in the fine print they only accept returns for not as described. Nope...doesn't work that way. This one probably wants that paltry 10% for these so-called 'free' returns and is willing to massage the system to get it...doesn't work that way, either.
