Another new change as of 2 days ago. Again, all over the Ebay boards, not sure why it isn't mentioned here. But, email addresses are now scrambled on your orders page. This is a rollout, so it didn't affect me the first day I read about it, but the 2nd day, it did. It will be rolling out to everyone.
As usual, answers about whether emails are still getting through properly &/or whether the scrambled email will work for carriers (it won't) & what to do about that, are vague & nonsensical.
I used them a ton, so this is really upsetting to me. If you never used them, it may not affect you at all.
ETA: This is affecting MP users first, cuz they can control it. Funny, I was in there the DAY before this started & grabbed an email addy to send a buyer an email & a little something went off in my head & I thought to myself, I wonder when this is going away & the VERY NEXT DAY, I started reading about it on the boards.

I have found them in PP, But I guess that will go away once I am in MP.

The email addresses on the two orders I have awaiting shipment are showing up fine. I don't ever email my buyers outside of ebay messages, and I'm not upset that my email won't be visible to people I purchase from. I get a lot of junk mail, and it's very possible it originates from ebay sellers so not upset about it at all from that perspective.

I use them when I want to send a partial refund, without going through eBay. When I do go through eBay, it hangs up forever as being unpaid, and I have to archive it.

Can't you contact the buyers anymore like we can do before MP? I always write to them to give them the tracking number and to tell them when I will ship.

I do no communicating outside any selling app that I use - there's no 'paper trail' if one does, so the fact that the addresses are scrambled doesn't bother me.

Well, they're scrambling the addresses, so no, not directly b/c they're no longer giving us the buyer's email addy. Supposedly you can still click on the scrambled address & send an email. Whether or not it works, I don't know. I contacted them directly a lot lately with all the USPS delays & also when I issue combined shipping refunds.

Is the "contact buyer" still in the drop down?

I don't like using that b/c so many buyers don't check their Ebay messages, but they almost all check their email immediately.

I understand checking eBay messages v email messages, but I found that too many of them didn't check email, either - if they're like me, all that stuff just goes into a junk account. There is still 'contact the buyer' in the drop-down - I suspect that checking to see if using the scrambled email address link might still send a message to their proper email might be found by looking at the source code.

They've already said it's supposed to, I just haven't tried it yet, that's all. IME, when I send an email, I almost always get an immediate reply, usually within minutes. Just happened yesterday. Apparently the emails are still unscrambled on the sales that happened before it went into effect b/c I was able to send one yesterday on an older sale (who still hasn't received her pkg). It is what it is, so nothing can be done about it, I was just letting people know. Seems on this very small board, very few used it anyway.

The problem with that is when I ship an expensive item, I will send a USPS tracking notification to myself and my buyer so they not only receive the eBay shipping updates but can see where it is in the USPS system.

I do it though the USPS site. I send them the one that notifies them of all scans.

Don't you just look at the tracking number on the orders page? I"ve never sent a buyer a tracking number in my life. Why would I need to, when it's all right there on the orders page? Plus, I think Ebay sends it. I'm not sure on that & I don't have one to check, since I deleted the myriad of emails I receive from every purchase.

I didn't either, for many years. But I received so many inquiries for the tracking number and shipping date. They obviously ignored eBay's emails. So I got into the habit of writing to my buyers. Takes a few seconds, and since I don't make a lot of sales, I have time to do so.

Certainly doesn't hurt anything, I was just trying to figure out if I was missing something.

I have had countless numbers of "thank you for the information" notes from my buyers. They also like to know when something will be shipped.

Sometimes I wonder if some buyers just like to hear from their sellers - I don't send anything, either, but I leave feedback when I ship and I think that's kind of 'hearing from.'

I don't communicate either except to leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback.
I get enough emails from ebay without sellers adding to them.

I tend to agree with Kritter, there are already so damn many emails, I hate getting more, so I try never to send them. The exception being late pkgs due to the whole USPS/COVID issue. There's already way too many emails.

OTOH, I do get a lot of "thanks" for the communication.
