www.savethepostoffice.net/event/save-the-post-office/search/?In case anyone is interested. This is a protest anyone and everyone should get behind, because the USPS affects all Americans, regardless of party affiliation. If there is not one at the PO near you, keep checking back as it may not be on the website yet (I know the one I signed up to host isn't on there yet). Better yet, sign up to host one yourself. Be sure to call your city and verify that you don't need a permit (usually you don't to protest, but the cities like to know so they can keep PD informed). Make a difference!!!!

18 protests just in my area, one is at my local post office in North City where I just was. Yesterday one of the local news outlets published the number of sorting machines removed from each sort center (we have a lot of them here), and every single one had had at least one removed, the very busy Kent one had two removed. People are really pizzed, particularly small businesses, of which we have many, many. I'll be there with my spikey mask. I'll need to make a sign.

I signed up to host one at my PO. It was late this afternoon, so far no one has registered to attend so I may be protesting by myself

DeJoy is on TV now (9:45 AM Friday) being questioned by Congress at the Postal Service Hearing (Senate Governmental Affairs Committee) about the changes, pricing, etc. to the Post Office. It's on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, C-SPAN

Monday's hearing with DeJoy should be better. Less butt-kissing.

He needs to explain why slowing everything down to a crawl is making the USPS 'more efficient.'

I think we have 5 scheduled protests here. Three are full (capped at 50 due to COVID and city restrictions), mine has 34 and the fifth one has 38 people so far.

We are having one now in my city since the police are on the scanner checking in with each other as far as opening the streets back up. I didn't see anything posted about it on Facebook.

We haven't had rain in months here until this morning.
Not sure if the protestors will be walking around with umbrellas or just enjoying the rain hitting their face. I don't think we saw this rain coming. At least, I didn't.
My neighbors behind me are getting their roof replaced. Started yesterday and there were workers trying to tie down blue plastic tarps over the roof in the middle of the rain this morning.

Our neighbours had a blue tarp over half their roof for months. The tax assessor came by to inspect for home value and I was out in the road. He wanted to know if the blue tarp house was a rental and I said that no, the people had lived there for about 30 years. He then wondered why the tarp was there. I got kind of annoyed and said "when is the last time we had enough days together without rain to replace a roof?" (at that point it had been close to four months). He says 'Oh yeah, that's right.' Duh. It was February. The time you replace a roof here is in August or early September, and that's about it. ETA: He had already presented is ID and papers before he asked so I knew who he was.
We had a good turn-out for our rally and lots of positive response from the public - we were stationed along a major arterial. One buffoon yelled "Go get a job!" And we all started laughing - the crowd was about as working class respectable as you could get and there were a bunch of older folks as well (I mean 70s/80s) as well as younger. We had plenty of room to distance, everyone wore masks, so I don't think they were at all worried.

About half the registered folks turned out at my protest - 25ish. Only two guys flipped us the bird, everyone else driving by who responded, waved, honked, rolled down the window and commented positively, etc. All demonstrators had masks on and we distanced fairly well, I'd say 4'-6' (I didn't measure LOL) except for those who arrived together. Every one brought water too. All the signs but one were USPS directed, and the one exception was a Vets Against Trump sign. Got interviewed by the Arizona Republic but I don't know that she'll use any of my quotes. She was trying to push us being there as an anti-Trump initiative and it wasn't. The USPS affects every person in this country, regardless of how they vote or if they even vote at all, and I said that. Oh well. I've had my 15 minutes of fame several times in my life so I won't be upset if I'm not quoted And it was damn hot out there My clothes and masks (brought extra due to the heat) were soaked when I got home and first thing I did was stand in front of a fan followed by a cool shower. I tripped trying to stand up from sitting on my cooler and hurt my leg. Now I'm at home with ice on it We had one couple show up with their rescue dogs and in chatting I told them about Barney. To all those listening, I told them to checkout SNIPSA's website and Barney the cat who blew all the dogs out of the water to be the face of a fundraising run with dogs Gotta keep his celebrity status up you know!!

The Vets Against Trump lady was definitely supporting the post office, no problem there.

We had both the USPS rally and a BLM rally. Both were peaceful and on TV. Sure kept the cops busy, directing traffic.

Some people had dual purpose signs - now that's efficient! I saw no cops here save a couple of motorcycles cruised by, but there really wasn't anything to direct since we were on an arterial and it was just us (no other rally) - the cars would back up at the light so they had to read our signs lol (captive audience). There was a lot of bike traffic on the multi-use path behind us, too, and they were cheering and ringing bells, so that was cool.

I called the city Friday to make sure we didn't need a permit (we didn't) and the city clerk alerted the police, who called and told me what we could and couldn't do. We had a police officer show up when we started. Nice guy, stayed and chatted with us a bit. I asked if he needed my cell number to call us if someone complained. He said he wasn't worried about us doing anything wrong, and by looking at the signs he didn't think we'd have any trouble but to call 911 if we did. I take that to mean he didn't anticipate us being bothered by a certain small section of the population since we were 99% USPS signs and it was not an openly anti-Trump rally. I was very impressed with my protestors, that they made the focus all USPS and DeJoy. The Veterans Against Trump lady had a nice professionally done sign so I'm guessing that's why she used it. It wasn't cheap. She was in the middle though, not the easiest one to see
