I've always been able to use 16 oz for a first class package, but now they are getting rejected when I'm trying to list it. I use a flat rate of $5.95 on the listings, and I pretty much just use 13 or 16 oz based on what I think the package weighs. Occasionally I get it wrong and have to pay for a PFRE but it's rare so I'm ok with that. Since it's rejecting, I'm changing the weight to 15 so no big deal, unless it's going to also change when printing labels. Commercial first class has been anything less than 16 oz (so 15.9 oz was ok), and I tried 16 oz on a label just now, and it treats it the same way it always has. Has anyone heard anything on this to know if the change will be reflected on the labels at some point?

Mine rejected once too. But I thought it was because 16 ounce is for PR only. It was only 15 ounces, but I had 16 ounces in my ad for some reason.

They rejected when the new shipping screen was created, a year or so ago. Been fine after several of us squawked at Ebay, at that time. denise15601 is technically correct that 16 is for PM & 15.999 is for FC. However you can enter 16 (once they fixed it) & it will change to 15.99 when it prints the label. Are you talking about when print labels Somany or somewhere else? I haven't had any problems, but I don't fill in the 16 anywhere until I go to print the label b/c they still haven't fixed the issue, where they think 13-16oz (15.99 technically) is PM. So I don't want my buyers overcharged & still use 13, then change it to 14-16 when I print the label.

So I don't want my buyers overcharged & still use 13, then change it to 14-16 when I print the label. Because I have the flat rate shipping cost to the buyer, I could go ahead and enter the 16 oz when I list and it didn't make a difference to the buyer. It just started not taking it in the last day or two. I tried to test it on printing a label, and it still took 16 oz (but changed it to 1 lb as it always has) and was giving me the first class rate. But I didn't actually purchase the label because the item I was shipping was not that heavy--I was just trying to see if it would reject the 16 oz as not eligible for first class. It didn't reject it, but I don't know if it would have if I had actually clicked to purchase it. In the past, even when I entered 16 oz, it would print 15.9 oz on the label itself. I think for any other first class rate, if it's more than .1 oz over, you round it up to the next whole number, i.e., 8.1 oz, you use 9 oz. It's only between 15 and 15.99999 that you could use 15. If that's changing, it will affect several items I have listed, sending them over to a priority rate. I won't go back to find them, but I would like to know for sure so I can start charging for priority when needed on future listings.

If you have your shipping listed as flat rate, it doesn't matter what you put in the listing; the buyer is always going to see $5.95 and nothing will carry over to them (or be credited to them). You can put $5.95 as shipping, and put 485 lbs on your end, your buyer will only see and pay $5.95. The only thing it might affect is the cost of a return label. Also, if you put 485 lbs in your listing and it only ends up being 2 lbs, you just simply change the weight before you print the label. Isabella puts 2 lbs as the weight of her book lots, but most of the time they don't even go over 1 lb...and sometimes they are 3 lbs. They buyer doesn't know which it is because they only pay what they see.

OK, I just went into a live listing & tried to change it to 16oz & I do get an error msg that it needs to be between 1-15oz. That's def a bug & s/b reported, as it was clearly coded by someone who doesn't understand how Ebay shipping works. Morons.

I couldn't print out a label just now at 15 ounces. It only takes 14 ounces for First Class. When I change it to 15 ounces, it won't show me the First Class option.

The price is the same for 15oz and 15.9oz, so if it got audited along the way you won’t be billed for the discrepancy. I use Pirateship and it allows the decimal in the ounce field. If you are worried about a clerk rejecting it, I’d recommend Pirateship. I print almost everything through them since i never encountered a glitch or bug.

Kat's right & actually 13-16 are the same now, so it doesn't actually matter. But, it Ebay should still understand how their postage works!
