I received an email from eBay saying 29 of my listings were missing "critical item specifics".
Among the "critical" specifics "missing" were accents, theme and character.
WTH?

I’ve received the email twice now. June 15 and yesterday. I haven’t looked at it so maybe that’s why I got it the second time. It can be pretty amusing sometimes when they try to fill in character, theme, etc. They made such a mess of Item Specifics when they changed them, I just wish they’d leave it alone. They admitted they executed it wrong, but I guess they’ve gotten past that now.

I got the email yesterday too. Just deleted it without opening because I knew it was stupid.

I looked at some of the listings they said were missing item specifics. Most were not needed, like others reported. I did find one where they'd added "glitter" as an accent. But the item has no glitter and the word did not appear in the title or description. I told them what I thought about that!!

I got the email last week. Mine too was for a bunch of item specifics that don't even apply to the listing they want me to change. Specifics I have never used and will never use because they have nothing to do with my listing. What is wrong with these people? Why do they bother with this nonsense?

It is apparently just a generated crap email like their Tips on Selling email that comes out on a schedule known only to their automation team.
Nobody is paying attention/input except their computers.

I got one too that I will ignore for 169 listings. But I wonder what will happen if they add "glitter" to the specifics and the buyer wants to return because the item is glitterless. Who takes the hit for that?

Oh, silly you. You have been on ebay long enough to know who will take the hit.
The seller always has that honor.

I just ignore those emails - I did carefully check IS's for the first batches but realised that few even applied.

Those are the ones that I have been changing for over a year. I was down to only 600 left to change, and then they added more specs needed and it went back up to 1,000.
I am now down to ONLY 160!!!!! But as I add the new stuff, I am still finding InkFrog html, so I have to delete that.
I recently listed golf towels, and now I have to add SEVEN more IS's. Including thickness and softness.

I can see wanting to maximize visibility, but I really question whether buyers even bother drilling down on those specs and I personally don't think it's worth it. Particularly for such subjective criteria as thickness, softness, shade, etc.

Some of the mass changes were ones that we were required to make. I do know that if I ever finish revising them (I only revise 5 a day), that there will be more changes.

Right - those required changes I definitely made, and periodically I still have to do it. But it's like this danged never-ending treadmill with these IS's.

The subjective ones are fuel for the fire if a scammer orders your item so I don't enter them either.

^^^ This. It's a poor idea all the way around and I think, again, that it has to do with new mass commodities and isn't really that relevant for one-off items.

I think it has a lot to do with eBay being picked up in Google searches.

IDK why you're bothering with that Denise. I just delete all those emails, don't even read them. My sales are really good, so I'm not worried about it.

And I just kept going. I only do 5 a day, which takes about 5 minutes. And I revised 2 today that still had InkFrog html, that I wouldn't have found otherwise. I am also tweaking as I go.

NOOOOOOO! I am DONE!!!!! I finally got caught up with revising my listings that were up to 1,000 needed. Finally got caught up 2 days ago! I revised 5 a day.
Now TODAY I have to revise 754 more!! NOOOO.
They now want me to add "Theme" and "Accents", and Lord knows what else. Nope, dammit.

I wouldn’t bother. I fill out very few specifics and ignore those emails.

I did take the html from InkFrog off hundreds of listings. So that helped.
Now they also want the kind of knit for sweaters, the character, character family. All BS. I quit.

I wouldn’t bother. I fill out very few specifics and ignore those emails. Seriously - I just do the basic specifics and have good keyword rich titles - that other crap is useless. "Theme" and "accents" is pretty low on the relevance list IMHO.

I don't bother with all those superfluous item specifics, just the ones I think are really necessary, such as sizes and material.

Well, I just knew that when I finished with the 1,000, they would demand more. I shall ignore.

Arghhhh! Did anyone else get this? So far, I have to revise 485, and it keeps going up.....
Providing detailed information about your listings by adding item specifics is a key part of making sure those listings show up in buyers’ searches. New Required Soon and Recommended item specifics are available now for your new listings and available soon for existing listings.
Required Soon item specifics need to be added by February 22, 2021. After this date, you won’t be able to publish new, relisted, or revised listings in the following categories without the required item specifics: Business & Industrial Clothing, Shoes & Accessories Health & Beauty Home & Garden Musical Instruments Sporting Goods

Somehow I’m not getting warned For all the others and do the bare minimum. I wonder if I’ll get warned at the last minute?

I read about this "required" thing on the FB forums. Mine just showed up yesterday. These aren't the "recommended" of which I have almost 1,300. This is a separate category.
I will go back to my usual "changing 5 listings a day".
