It's been awhile, but I just had a buyer open a case with Ebay for INR (which pisses me off b/c she said she was just trying to write me), anyway, the item shows delivered yesterday & she says she didn't get it. I know where to tell her to look, etc. but remind me, if tracking shows delivered, which it DOES, do I have any liability? Or will Ebay just close it?

No liability for you. I have had one of those before and when I called ebay, they closed it.
Enter the tracking number in the case. I also add the date the tracking shows delivered.

You are covered. If you sold on Amazon you wouldn't be, but you are on eBay

I had an interesting conversation with a good friend about this. He had purchased some bike tires on eBay - they were delivered and then probably stolen off his porch. He lives in a high-crime neighbourhood and I can't believe he has stuff just dropped off on his porch!
Thing is, he expected reimbursement for his stolen package from eBay when he filed an INR claim, and he also said it was 'very suspicious' that the seller's delivery time and the USPS delivery time were 7 hours difference. This is a reasonable, intelligent guy. He was really angry that he didn't get reimbursed for this and said the eBay guarantee was "bullshit". I had to explain to him how it works, that it's on us to have a safe place to have mail delivered and the USPS doesn't cover for theft, and the seller isn't liable. I also commiserated because I've had packages stolen as well. I didn't want to throw shade on his neighbourhood but I told him he HAS to make alternate arrangments for package delivery if he can't be home to actually get it of his porch.
So I think somehow people expect this Amazon guarantee or something.

Interesting chapeaunoir , I think she's kind of expecting to be reimbursed. I 'talked' to her a bit through the case yesterday & she said she was trying to find a way to email me, so it sounds like she didn't even open the case up on purpose. She knows the scan says delivered, but didn't get the pkg, so yeah I think she somehow thinks she'll get her $$ money back if that's the case. I gave her the usual spiel & she will try to call her PO, as I told her this is between her & them. She's willing to give it a few days. Thing is she doesn't have cluster boxes & she says she has a locked mailbox. So either she's lying, which I have no reason to think or it's a simple mis-delivery. I don't get why she would think this had anything to do with me though. Pantlandia I guess that's one thing Ebay has over AMZN Thanks Everyone!

Late to this, but a lot of times, I call her postmaster. Many times I am told that the buyer does this often. In other cases it suddenly shows up.
But when you send the tracking to eBay, they will accept it and end the case.

Yeah, I have called at times, but honestly if I don't have any liability, I'm not inclined to waste my time calling. As it turns out, the pkg was delivered today, so it's a moot point, she closed the case. Yay! I know some carriers scan all their pkgs when they go into the truck in the AM, so if they don't finish their route, they're not delivered. I knew it was gonna show up. I'm just glad I don't have to call Ebay. I'm going to educate her to not open a case next time & just communicate w/their seller first.

I only call the postmaster when the buyer is freaking out. Usually, eBay will just close it when they are provided with the tracking.

I'd just as soon give the number to the post office to the customer and tell her to call since there wouldn't be much you could do if you called.

Ya know, what's interesting is I wrote her a nice note last night & kindly suggested that in the future she simply contact the seller, if they are a reputable seller, rather than opening a case. I explained that it makes things adversarial, when they need not be & that cases hurt sellers, etc (& also said that there are def times to open a case) & her response was that she genuinely thought she was simply sending me an email letting me know that she didn't get the pkg & inquiring about it. I believe her, since our communications were all very pleasant & she was more than willing to just give it a couple of days.
Ebay just makes it too damn easy to open a case!

Believe it or not, the few times I have called, they are actually more than willing to talk to you. I sometimes do call just cuz I know more about how the USPS works than the buyer does & they have always been very forthcoming & open with info, have called me back after talking to the carriers, etc.

I called one buyer's Post Office for her as she had the same problem. Tracking said delivered and she said she never got it. Her PO was very accommodating and the Postmaster called me back after she spoke with the carrier. Said the driver remembered the package and exactly where he put it. He retrieved it from some locker and delivered it to the correct box. It was only because of the large size 14 x 19 bright PINK poly bag that he remembered it. I never went back to white poly bags after that.
