I think I might have posted at least 6 months ago about Barney. He was turned into Angie, our ACS, in the most pitiful shape of any cat I have seen. she brought him over to my house and we out him in my cat pen because we weren't sure how sick he was or how feral he might be. He was skin and bones, had a matted coat, and just sat in a corner of the pen and trembled. What else could we do but try.
After the first week or so I gained Barney's trust and he started to come around. We took him to our vet and he was free of any health issues, thank goodness. Got his mats cut out and the journey with Barney began. Slowly but surely Barney gained weight and his coat became soft. As time passed it dawned on me that Barney was deaf. His meow could be heard a couple of houses down when he really got going because he couldn't hear his own voice.
Barney went to several adoption events and while everybody loved him, Barney always came home with me. He turned into the most affectionate and mild mannered cat that I have ever fostered. Months passed and no home for Barney but Angie and I never gave up.
And then we thought Barney was going home. A college girl fell in love with him and took him home to her apartment. Unfortunately, Barney talked too loud for her neighbors so he came back home. OK, so no apartments for Barney.
One day Angie got a call from a couple who might be interested in Barney. The husband had just lost his cat from old age and he was looking for another cat as a friend for his wife's cat. When he met Barney he fell in love with him and, thank the cat gods, they had a house.
Barney is the star of the show at their house now. His dad is a musician with the Army band at Ft Sam Houston. Angie gave him a musical tie for barney and thus a Reddit career was born. Barney now has over 3.3 thousand likes and the count is still growing. Not bad for a cat that a year ago was on his last leg with no hope. Barney has my heart and he deserves every good thing in life.

If I had to name one foster that truly had my heart, it is Barney.
To think of what he had gone through in his life, how badly he must have been treated, and then to put that aside and be the sweetest most loving cat that he is. He deserves all the love that he has now. He couldn't have found a better home.

What a great ending to his journey in searching for his forever home.
He's just totally gorgeous/handsome looking in that picture too.

This was Barney when he first arrived at my house. You can't see how skinny he was because he does have thick hair. Barney right before he left my house.

I couldn't remember if I had posted about him before. I know I have posted about so many of them over the years.
He does have a great story.

Last post I remember is when the college girl took him home but had to bring him back. That broke my heart and I was hopeful he'd find just the right owner(s). I love how he looks like his head and tail look like they belong to a different cat. What a sweetheart. Those eyes!!!

That broke my heart too but we trudged forward. We had started looking for another foster for Barney because winter was coming on and he was in the cat pen. I have such a delicate balance with my inside cats. A kitten will be accepted but not an adult cat.
They couple that took him were originally only going to foster him but I knew that they would fall in love with him because he is such a loving cat. They had another cat, the wife's cat, that Barney was going to have to get along with so that could have been a possible deal breaker. We outlined how to introduce them, they did their research on making it work and it did. Every time Angie would call me I would ask her if this call was about Barney and would be so relieved that it was only about more kittens to foster.
Barney is being rewarded for all the suffering that came his way. Every time I see one of those ASPCA commercials asking for donations, I can just see Barney in one of those cages because he was that pitiful. When I saw him for the first time, I looked at Angie, shook my head, and told her that all we could do was try.

Me too.
Shirley, you know how it is. You get one of those that no matter how much hardship and cruelty they have endured, they still can feel that trust and hope one more time.
No way I could have ever have given up on him. There are some things that you never want on your conscience and giving up on him would have been on mine forever.

You are too good Kritter, a heart of gold. Just the stories I have read here are amazing on what you do for these kittens/cats. I still remember the poor kitten that had the jar caught on his head. I was horrified that a cat was walking/running around outside like that. TG you caught him and got it resolved. And what we've read here, the stories you've shared with us, is only a small part of what you've accomplished. I'm sure there are many more stories that you could tell us.

Thanks, Desire. That jar head cat, Shadow, was adopted by a disabled lady in a retirement home. Shadow sits on her window sill looking out on beautiful grounds or in the lady's lap all day.
A win for both of them.
Oh yes, many more stories. Never a dull moment with cat wrangling.
