Had a very nasty buyer DEMAND an IMMEDIATE refund because the jeans he bought didn't fit. I told him to open a return request and choose "Does Not Fit" as the return reason. Well, he never did that and they just showed up today. He paid for the shipping label. They were sold as no return with free shipping.
TBH, I told him he could return them before I saw they were no return. I'm not sure what to do. If I just open a cancellation with buyer changed mind (or however it's worded), and refund through that would that take care of it? I don't care about the fees. Could he still leave feedback? I'm just afraid if I poke the bear he will open an SNAD. What would you do?
Thanks!

I would be surprised if cancelling it after it was shipped is even an option. If you don’t have an option to issue the refund without a request being opened then I would probably call CS for help. I don’t think eBay could have a problem with your response as you agreed to the return even though it was no return. He was the one who didn’t follow procedure. But note I haven’t had a reason to talk to CS for awhile so I’m only basing it on what I think would be an appropriate course of action. Who knows if it’s the right “eBay way”.

You'd have to email CS at this point, but I've cancelled after shipment. Choose buyer request, because that's what he did. He's lucky he's getting his money back as his return without any due process I believe canceled his MBG.

I was able to cancel through the orders page, using buyer's request. I was just wondering if he'd be able to leave feedback.

I've found that prompt refunds, even for big babies like this, usually results in no feedback at all.

I very rarely ever talk to any reps in San Jose, almost exclusively Utah, but I imagine what happens in call centers in other states/countries depend on San Jose to run? I can’t imagine how they are managing to operate as it is. Imagine your entire building being told to go home and you can’t come back until we don’t know when. They must have had systems in place for employees to continue their jobs from home in an emergency but everyone at once isn’t going to go smoothly I wouldn’t t think.

My company was told to work from home. We are doing so and continue to take calls from clients, calls from state tax & revenue departments, the IRS, etc. It can be done. OTOH, much of the call center work for eBay is outsourced to the Philipines, I think, and they're having a hard time of it. That might be the reason for no calls. Maybe this will force eBay to bring the call centers back to the US.

That might be if ebay cared about their CS but as long as call centers can be outsourced cheaper, they will still use the off shore ones.

He could have just required them to work remote. That's what we did. We already use cloud desktops, so we canceled live appointments and made clients send paperwork electronically or drop it thru the mail slot in the door. All conferences were moved to conference calls and skype or zoom if the client wanted it. When the NM gov more or less shut the state down last week, we simply moved to working from home 100%. One person is in the office daily, to handle drop offs, and whomever is in the office is rotated daily.
There really is no need this day and age for someone to sit in an accountant office, waiting for their tax return.
Maybe this will drive more accountants to move to the cloud and technology. Too many of them are still operating in the Jurassic Age.
