Nice! It was gorgeous coming up over the Sandia's last night and tonight, but my camera doesn't really do night shots. So bright I could see the scruffy ground cover, in the dark!

Sounds beautiful, I should have stayed up, but I was telling DH, how unimpressed I was by it that night that you, Shirley & I all were up watching it & reporting, that I decided not to bother last night. Oops.

I got up to watch it too. This one went really fast, so I barely got in one cup of coffee.
Was nice and peaceful though since nobody else seemed to be awake so just a light tinkle of the windchimes and no other noise.
Thanks for the pic Zoe, that is an excellent one.

Glad you all liked it! This photog is exceptional & you can tell he works so hard at it, doing all the work to be in the right place at the right time & then hoping the weather forecast was right, etc. Yet, he gets his version of our 'how long is this' question. On this photo someone accused him of photoshopping b/c all the other pics had the moon to the right of the peak. He had to explain that the moon would appear to be in a different place based on his location & that he didn't go to the default location (garden of the gods) that most people went to. He must have been bashing his head against the wall LOL.

Beautiful picture. This eclipse wasn't visible (or barely) on the east coast and the last one we had was too cloudy. I'm really hoping the September one is clear - it's at a reasonable hour (midnightish), during a temperate time of year, and I really want to see it. I remember as a kid staying up and watching one through our front window. I'm such a nerd.

Shirley, Val & I all stayed up watching one 'together' last year. So you're not alone in the nerd dept I don't know about them, but I've always been into the night sky, both as a kid & then I grew up with a lifelong love of it. I follow solar storms for auroras, I can geek out naming probably 20 kinds of clouds, I'm into atmospheric optics, so yeah, total nerd & proud of it!

Beautiful!
One night 20-something years ago when we lived in TX, DH, I and the kids planted our lawn chairs at the end of the driveway and waited patiently for a meteor shower. We sat and watched, sat and watched and finally gave up as we hadn't seen even one. Turned around to fold our chairs up and go inside and spotted a few within a minute or so. Turns out we had our chairs facing the wrong direction.

I have wanted to see the aurora all my life! I have now succeeded 3x, but 2 were in AK, so they almost don't count LOL. When I lived in MN, of course we had greater chance, but I never saw them there. One time my dad called & woke me in the middle of the night to tell me abt the atmospheric disturbances & that you could see them right that moment. So, I got dressed, drove way the f out to the country (to get away from the light pollution), literally was driving between cornfields at 2AM & I was not a country girl, so kinda freaked out too.
Anyway, I never saw them :-(. Next morning I tell my dad that I didn't see them & he shows me all the pics he took or at least told me about it & they were amazing, purple, blue, etc. All the pics were taken from his back deck in the middle of the suburbs with plenty of light pollution. Apparently if I had just gone outside & looked up, I would have seen them LOL.

Now THIS is the place I'd like to watch sky stuff from: There are beds, heat, and bathrooms in there. It's in Finnish Lapland.
