The formula does not make sense. Using the measurements in inches of height, width & length and multiplying them gives the volume of the container in cubic inches. Dividing by 166 or any other number gives a smaller number, but it's still cubic inches. They don't say, but I'm guessing it's supposed to magically change to pounds. So, for example a box that is 6" x 6" x 7" has a volume of 252 cubic inches. 252 divided by 166 equals approximately 1.518. So, now I assume you call that about 1.5 pounds. Then if your package weighs less than 1 pound and you're shipping it by Priority or Parcel Select, you have to pay the 2 pound rate. Is that correct?

I thought this only applied to boxes over 1 cubic foot.

I went back to the article in the link and found an obscure link to "learn more" where they said the DIM applied only to packages with more than 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches).

I just asked the gal at my PO about this, and she said they have not received any info about the change at all. But she did tell me that Priority Mail BOXES (the freebie ones from the PO) should not be affected in any way. It's just for stuff over 84" combined length X girth.
