I've not had a sale there in over a month?! What gives? I still have people who love things. I have things on sale. Worse than crickets. End of the world.

I've had one sale in a month but I stopped listing there very much a couple of months ago when it become obvious that without throwing loads of money at their PPC PLs, I wasn't going to make much of anything. My sales, which used to be good and steady, started dribbling away in December and steadily decreased from $1000 to $1500 per month to $400, then $250 - after that I stopped investing in the shop because I was just throwing good money after bad. When with the PLs my fees were at 30% to sell one damn vintage wedding gown in a month, I pulled the plug.
Etsy is Wall Street's darling right now because it's making so much money, and some IS organically, but Silverman said himself that basically they've been emphasizing the cheap n' cheerful too much, i.e., tilting search towards easily replicated, cheaper giftie items (all of those email saying $30 and under!, which presumably includes mass production and the Ali Express stuff that's starting to propagate all over the place). This emphasis, he says, is actually hurting profits, so they're changing some direction - well, that's great but I don't have time for them to get their heads out of their bee-hinds to actually change this. Also, their search engine is a mess. Basically, we're paying fees to teach search, and it's working badly.
Oh, and need I say that Etsy was 30% of my income? I've been scrambling to replace that on Posh, but I still haven't been able to push Posh up to the 1K/month - in this case I'm part of the problem because it really tests my fashion sense to source stuff to sell there and, well, I know how that's going to go. I'm very disillusioned with Etsy - I see some of the changes Josh made to be beneficial but my current shop isn't going to survive them - I simply don't have enough income to PAY Etsy to take stuff off my hands.
When I run out of business cards I'm going to close down my shop there and open up with a new one in the fall - budget vintage kimono and Japanese vintage.

That really sucks. Even last April was good enough there for me. People are looking if I have those ridiculous 'likes" right? It's a good thing I don't know how much I'm wasting there per month. When in doubt, shield your eyes, I always say.

I stopped using the promoted listings just after Christmas. I was getting (and paying for) lots of clicks but wasn't getting any sales.
All my stuff there is handcrafted by me (I need an artistic outlet) with a few vintage items. I can afford the listing fees for a while, then I take them down if they don't sell. I've been getting 1 or 2 sales a month. But I had something really odd happen. I sell these plant pokes that I make out of copper. They're sort of like garden markers. About 10 days or so ago, I changed the title and key words to include "pet loss gifts", figuring they could be used as a memorial for a pet who had passed away. The very next day, I had 2 orders of several markers each! Nothing since, but key words seem to have worked in this instance.

As long as you're not in PLs, it's cheap to list and no shop fees - I mean, just to maintain listings there costs almost nothing. If you have your PL budget set at $1 a day, then it'll be $30/month to maintain that - if it doesn't work, then you're basically paying Etsy $30 really for nothing as it's PPC - well, guess what, PPC can be anything, it doesn't matter. Sellers have been complaining that their entire daily budget has been run through between the hours of midnight and 4:00 a.m. Etsy recently had to reimburse a number of sellers when all shoe listings, or listings with 'shoes' in them were suddenly subject to click fraud.
So really, at a nickel a month per listing it costs almost nothing, even to maintain several hundred listings, though I only have about 75 left - I've been selling most of the vintage on Posh, and will probably list any vintage coats I have left on there this fall.

Yes - I always tweaked titles and kept the SEO up to date - that's really important. It's when that didn't work anymore that I stopped bothering with it. You may have more of those orders coming in, though - that was a really good idea! You have great items - I love the nectar feeders and the cat and dog logic!

With your price points and high quality, Ruby Lane may be a better fit. I used to sell on there back in about ? 2000?? I quit because I had too much else going, but the site has continually come in with highest marks in satisfaction down through the years. It's gotten to be a place for the really higher dollar stuff.

My hummers love those nectar feeders. I may have to re-do those listings. I sold a bunch of them at first, then the sales just petered out.

I need to do that. I'm just drowning in inventory right now and eking out a few listings a day. I'm about to put up some "important" pieces of jewelry too. I just don't have the energy right now to start at a new place but if Etsy doesn't get better it may inspire me. I'll have to read up on how to do Ruby Lane and see what it's about.

From what I've read from other Ruby Lane sellers on vintage boards, it's just getting approval, then you set things up. You're a natch for RL because they want high end, beautiful items like you have. I think Val had a great idea and would investigate. I moved vintage to Posh when Etsy just dried up. BTW, I read in their new 'trends' guide that they're emphasizing higher end items for some of the holidays - to them "higher end' means $50-100 so I'd still look at Ruby Lane.
