Here we go again.
November 20, 2018 — Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets are voluntarily recalling certain lots of Nature’s Promise Dog Food because they may contain excessive amounts of Vitamin D, which may cause renal failure.

That so sad, hope they cover all the vet bills and reimburse the families for care. That doesn't bring back the ones that it already killed though. There are far too many pet food/treat recalls going on lately, don't know if the inspections have declined, so bad product is slipping through, or if people are just more aware now and they are realizing the food is making their pets sick and not just brushing it off as something else.
We always feed Blue Buffalo or the Farm Store version of it and so far we've been lucky and haven't had a recall on Bella's food. I hate paying so much for it but it keeps her healthy.

Budget cuts in the FDA aren't helping any.

I always used Taste of the Wild and they had a recall a while back-then they changed the dry food formula and my Boxer (un-typically skinny for the breed) lost weight with the updated formula. I switched to Natural Balance (dried) but still use TOTW canned.
Sadly, animal products (and tragically their lives) aren't as strictly regulated as those for human consumption. I have a parrot and have to be super diligent in what I purchase for him-poor little guy (maybe girl?) doesn't have enough weight to compensate for food related issues-it would kill him; especially since he tested "possible" for a potentially deadly disease (Avian Bornavirus).
