That being said, Paypal's stock was up $7.30 at $84.78.
Best thing ever to happen to Paypal was to split from Ebay.

Very sad - but they do this to themselves and cause their own problems. They are so mis-directed in most of what they do.

Best thing ever to happen to Paypal was to split from Ebay. I agree. I've definitely noticed an increase in the number of internet retailers showing PayPal as a checkout choice.

Me too. And I always choose Paypal to pay when I see it offered as a payment choice.

By looking at the stock prices and forward guidance, it seems like Paypal got all the good people in the split and Ebay got stuck with the second string employees.

That seems like an awfully long time to push back an earnings announcement. It sounds like itās going to be bad news so seems like it would be better to just get it out there now rather than making shareholders more nervous during the long waiting period.

Speculation on a couple of financial articles I've read here and there is that the news will range anywhere between a simple shortfall to Wenig frantically cooking the books as he's about to launched for incompetence. IMHO it'll be closer to the earnings shortfall, but there was an egregious rumour that went around that Icahn, the corporate hatchet man wanted to dismantle eBay. It turned out to be false, but eBay stock had a brief rally on the news, and the joke is that Wenig must be desperate

I noticed this too. I buy quite a bit online and noticed in the last month or so that many of the larger retailers were offering Paypal at checkout.

That is a long time to push back an earnings report. When that happens, usually bad news comes next.
Maybe Ebay knew Paypal was going to "mention" them in their earnings report and decided to let Paypal break the bad news and get the stock slap in the head over with so anything they came out with would look better in contrast.
Whatever it is, it is not going to be pretty. I have seen forecasts that Ebay stock will drop into the teens which might be a good time to speculate as the day traders will take over and there could be some quick in and out money on a daily basis.

Seems the more they do to alienate their sellers, the worse the stock performs. I don't know why the head honchos can't see that. Could also be that Trumps stance on China has threatened eBay's main business model. I'm probably wrong. I know very little about how stocks work.

That wouldn't be factored into 3rd quarter business report that ebay apparently really doesn't want to disclose.
If it even comes to pass it will be factored into forward guidance as the quarters roll on.

I know it wouldn't be factored into the 3rd quarter reports. I figured it could be one of the many reasons for the stock drop; lack of faith in the future. Again, I don't know anything about it have just read that speculation can affect a stock's value.

I dunno, PayPal got stuck with Donohoe. The only reason his PP screwups aren't affecting the company is PP was strong when he came on board. IMO.

Definitely strong then and even stronger now no matter who is working there. Maybe Donohoe being Chairman of the Board doesn't mean he really has anything important to do at Paypal.
Maybe Donohoe wasn't Ebay's downfall after all since Ebay continues to struggle without him.

I think stock is sinking on confidence. eBay's showing against the site they've been trying to emulate is dismal, and their focus is weak. If eBay simply stuck to its own strengths the comparison would not be bad at all - but their frantic, almost embarrassing chase (the Prime campaign was so limp it was funny) is not confidence inspiring.
Insofar as the postponed report, articles I've read in the finacial press speculate between embarrassing earnings shortfall to Wenig being sacked due to incompetence. I tend to veer closer to the former - eBay is drifting and has no real focus, and Wenig is a weak CEO, none of which is real confidence inspiring, but it's not going anywhere.
ETA: as chairman of the board I don't think Donohoe has that much influence in and of itself. In fact, I think he was given that post in exchange for agreeing to step down, and no one in their right mind would give him much authority. He was a typical company yes man who got over his head. I recall watching his interviews and he was so lost, poor man, that the interviewer would have to help him out. Unlike Wenig, who looks and sounds like a real ass, at least he was pleasant- muddled but pleasant.

Oh, I definitely think there is a quarterly earnings shortfall which caused the delay.
Just wondering if they were playing for time to see how the first month of the 4th quarter was doing before they made an earnings forecast for the quarter in hopes they could put a positive spin on the debacle.
I don't think they figured in that Paypal was going to fire a shot across their bow before they could get in front of last quarter's bad news.

There's an article in the Wall Street Journal today saying it's a good time to buy PayPal stock. But we all heard it here first!

PayPal stock is up by 26% in the past year on the back of impressive financial performance by the company.
The most recent earnings report shows that the business keeps firing on all cylinders.
The stock is priced for growth, but PayPal is not overvalued when considering the company's long-term potential.
****PayPal ended the quarter with 254 million active customer accounts, adding 9.1 million net new customer accounts during the period. This represents an acceleration in growth in comparison to prior quarters and even a new record for the company.

If Donahoe was CEO of paypal it would be important - but chairman of the board really doesn't have much to do with day to day operations. If he did, he would have destroyed much of paypal by now.
