Where in the world or how in the world do the sellers mange to find them? I have no luck even with NWT items unless it's CAbi and the newer items don't have the style number.
I've tried, I'm not lazy, but I just can't figure out how they find the stock photos.

I thought sellers couldn't use stock photos on Posh.

I probably wouldn’t jump off a cliff if everyone else was doing it, but I’ll use a stock photo on Poshmark if it’s better than mine. They do say you can’t use copyrighted photos but it doesn’t seem to be enforced. I have only heard of Lululemon and Chanel demanding pictures removed but there are still tons up. Poshmark says you need permission and if you don’t have it, they are legally required to have them removed from their site.

To answer your question, I just google the item best I can, tap images and narrow down to color. If it doesn’t come up, I move on. I’d say this is a good question for Ahrn

I thought sellers couldn't use stock photos on Posh. I see almost as many stock as real so I thought it was allowed. I've only done it 3 times, twice for cabi ad one for EF. The EF was almost a have to, they were Haren pants with cuffs at the ankles.

I've never really looked it up since I don't use stock pics.

It seems accepted practice there. I was in the Posh group on FB and they were talking about using stock photos - no one seemed to have a clue that it was intellectual copyright theft, though TBH, I've used them, too, when an item has just been impossible to photo reasonably - like those harem pants of Delta's. My feeling is that the items often aren't in their current catalogs. If it's a small company I'll write and ask - none have turned me down.

Although Posh is lazy about enforcing it more and more brands are policing Posh. Last week Vineyard Vines and another brand (can't remember which one) did take downs. VS does them too.

I used them for my Capezio dance tops that my friend bought directly from Capezio. The tops are discontinued and she was told that she can use the stock pics for her own website.

Remember years ago when Anthropologie had a download button next to their pictures? I’m sure they intended people to use them for their blogs or MySpace not for resellers. I remember an old boardie that worked in some capacity with Anthro said the company would never enforce their copyright with resellers because they didn’t want to risk alienating their fans. She could have been a sales clerk for all I know, justifying herself using them way back when no one regular on the CAB dared to use any stock photo.

As long as you have permission from the image owner you're fine. Posh specifies that you are not allowed to use any images for which you do not have permission as it's against the law.

I’m trying to find the employee’s closet name but I’m forgetting which group was discussing it. She had a stock photo for everything and most didn’t even have any other pictures. Maybe she has permission but I really doubt it. She sells like crazy and it’s surprising she gets away with being a bad example.

The only company I've dealt with that historically have given blanket permission to use their photos is Lipservice. I'm not sure if that's the case anymore - when I was selling Lippy and dealing with wholesalers, the founder of the company was still actively involved - but they were considered in the public domain by Lipservice.

The problem is, so many people who don't really understand the internet are way too trusting - it's a young age demographic on Poshmark, even with olde fartes like myself mixed in, and they don't understand copyright, that half the stuff you read online is rubbish, etc. If it's online they truly think it's legal to use the photos because that IS the public domain. It's just a matter of unknowing. Yes, 'ignorance is no excuse for the law' but I've always though that was another of those black/white little aphorisms (actually, I think it's originally from the bible).

I'm guilty of using stock photos (like many others) for Lululemon-one listing was taken down (I emailed Poshmark), the other was an identical cardigan sweater (different color) which was left alone.
Poshmark replied and said the brand flagged the listing. But I did change the first photo to my own-going forward I use stock photos but never for my primary photo. Regrettably, stock photos are better than my own:(
I have several photo collages of stock photos combined with my physical item-those have not been tagged.....yet. I'm trying to be careful now though
