These two cuties showed up at work Monday. There were 4 but the dumb boys who first saw them went about their noisy business before going to find someone, then stood there talking about folding chairs for 5 mins. before mentioning "oh yeah, there are 4 kittens back there" - by the time my colleague got out there, two had run off. I hope their mamma got back to them (we saw a gray cat a few weeks ago after dark). Anyway, they went to a rescue this morning. We're still on the lookout for the other two and I don't want to trap mom before the babies are old enough to be on their own (Kritter when will they be old enough to be on their own? Assuming we don't catch them first).

They can eat on their own by 5 to 6 weeks as far as having teeth and able to leave their momkat but not able to protect themselves. Just by looking at their ears without seeing them standing up, they look to be close to that now.
Were they easy to catch or did you have to trap them?

My nephew's friend discovered kittens and a feral mother and wanted to know what to do with them. I told her she could take them to the no kill shelter, PAWS, but they're too young. Their eyes are still blue and they haven't been weaned. And no, I don't them.

Yes i think they're about 5 weeks. They can eat cat food - the littler one belly flopped in the middle of the plate and started growling at the other one when she got in there. It was pretty funny to hear something so tiny make such a noise.
I was worried about trapping momkat before the two we didn't catch could hunt and take care of themselves.
We were able to just catch them - they were already caught by the time i got there.

Titus, there are tons of no-kill rescues in this area, especially if they can get them ouside the city - since I still have the list in front of me - Lucky You www.luckyyouanimalrescue.org I think is in the northeast. They'll need a foster that can bottle feed.

Yep, sounds like 5 week old kits with that fierce growling.
If you are going to TNR the Momkat, then she could still nurse them when she comes back. I would wait at least a week or two and then put dry food out in the area where you are going to trap as the Mom will start bringing them around. Then you can catch them and if not they will know where the food is.
They can't be completely on their own anytime soon so the best thing is to catch them if possible. They might even go in the trap by themselves if you put some tasty smelling food in it.
