Unbelievable. www.ecommercebytes.com/C/letters/blog.pl?/pl/2018/8/1535638509.htmlHi Dave & Ina,
eBay is going to end up giving themselves a worse reputation than it has already done. I am talking this about as a buyer, of which I purchased an item the other night and this is what I got in my email today:
You browsed "certain item" ... at $16.17.
We found one similar for only $14.57 + FREE SHIPPING
I bought this item at 16.17 + Free Shipping, based on the seller performance. I am very happy with my purchase.
Now, a couple days later, eBay comes along and emails me ALL THE OTHER LISTINGS THEY DID NOT SHOW ME when I was looking for this in the first place!!
WTH is their problem??? Do they expect me to now return my original item and re-buy it, all the while hurting the original seller by hitting them with a return and then re-buying one for the sake of 2-3.00??
I suppose this is one way they can get more sales/returns/shipping fees all based on one purchase.
They truly are the devil and I can't wait to finish with them once and for all! No wonder there is such an increase in returns!
Down and dirty, this company is pure evil! No other venue does so much to damage the sellers and themselves. I don't get these notices from any other online stores from Amazon to Walmart. I hope that people will see thru this and slam eBay for what they are!

LOL I love this comment on that thread...
"What's next? Alerting new stockholders they should have waited to buy until after the 3rd quarter results, when the stock will be really cheap?"

What's next is right!
WTH is wrong with those idiots running ebay? To send a customer an email, who already purchased the item, that it's cheaper somewhere else on the site is just so ludicrous. In fact, any email, before or after the fact is just plain wrong.
Goes to show how grossly mismanaged they are. I just can't believe it.

I've already gotten hit with one of those. By my calculations, my buyer ended up paying $1 MORE for an inferior Chinese-made version of the Mexican-made jacket I sold her and which she returned. I'm just lucky she didn't claim SNAD so she could get all of her money back and be in pocket (in her defence, she wrapped the item very nicely when she shipped it back, as well as being honest about return reason).
This is one big reason I'm winding down on eBay - it's like trying to build on shifting sands. I can manage site changes, policy changes and the like, but this and the SNAD debacle go beyond the bounds. I should go over to the boards and see what the eBay kneejerk optimists have to say in praise of that turkey.
ETA: 99.9% certain this is what happened (see below).

You had a return because Ebay sent your buyer a buy it here cheaper email? I'm 99.9% positive. It was the same item and sold the day after mine sold. Mine hadn't even been delivered before she said she was returning it because she had found it cheaper.

I wonder who the Einstein is that thought this would be a good idea.
Let's not come up with new and ingenious ways to bring buyers to the platform. Let's come up with stupid policy and ideas instead.

And any buyer who would go through the trouble to return something and repurchase because ebay sent them an email that it's 1.60 cheaper by another seller is not the buyer that you want buying from you anyway. Total trouble.

Good thing I sell weird stuff. Hopefully this is some silly test that will end. I'd protest on eBay's FB page but I'm not one of the 'popular kids' there so stopped posting after a while. ETA: Desire - it was actually $6 cheaper than mine, with same shipping, but when you factor in her having to return mine to me - she lost $1.50 or whatever. See, this is where eBay is encouraging buyers to use SNAD complaints to get all of their shipping back PLUS the cheaper item. eBay racks that up against us and pretty soon we have a 40% fee jump (4% out of 10% FVFs). I doubt they thought it through that far, if even they were capable, but it nets them more money. This is emblematic of a company that's being mismanaged and falling behind - there is so much end-of-quarter, short-term thinking that any ideas about solid, long-term growth and stability are shelved. Also, there will always be more sellers than buyers, so we're an expendable commodity. I used to be such an eBay cheerleader, but I've been around business way too long to not be disturbed by this kind of thing.

To me, this seems like some programmer or marketing person who doesn't understand/think through the ramifications of what they are putting into place. It's not a corporate decision to do this; it's just someone who is implementing something without guidance/oversight/knowledge of the business. Just my two cents worth.

I wish ebay would just raise the selling FVF across the board and be done with all these games they need to play to bring in more revenue.
They are making money off the promoted listings, now they want to cash in on returns and replacing.

Total trouble. Right. Problem is - they already purchased and paid. Now they're returning possibly due to an email. This could possibly cost the seller money in return shipping. INAD anyone? And higher FVF's.

Total trouble. Right. Problem is - they already purchased and paid. Now they're returning possibly due to an email. This could possibly cost the seller money in return shipping. INAD anyone? And higher FVF's. That's what I mentioned above - the two can easily dovetail, and with eBay's push for free everything, they've already planted that in people's minds. Fortunately, most people are honest, but it doesn't take much to push the opportunists off the fence. The other thing is we're all being hit with this save the zillions of China junk sellers with their .97 dresses with free epacket shipping (there are other Chinese sellers just selling honest items and they're going to be hit with it, too). This distributes the impact, but some sellers are going to sell themselves out through fear, or thinking that eBay knows what they're doing (bad call), the ones who say "eBay told me to..." This is an oligarchic system - the company does NOTHING save for their bottom line, everything is expendable - this includes those qualities that actually help a company thrive. I'm hoping this is like those miserable DSRs and someone wakes up and bites the dust. I can't imagine who thought this up. I think Wenig is too out of touch and is only good for spitting out corp tech speak like a hurdy gurdy and flying around in his private jet with his personal body guard.

Are you talking about eBay for Business? Yes - my polite notes go unregarded save the one where I got a snarky and erroneous answer on a blatant eBay policy violation. ETA: My own theory is that they're getting overwhelmed, and I didn't attend eBay Open, nor am I one of the 'legacy' regular posters and their policy is to pick and choose now.

I use the message feature on the eBay for Biz FB page and usually get a reply.

I thought these emails have been going out for quite awhile?
I have a love/hate thought on these emails. While I'm glad that eBay blasts out emails to potential buyers, I feel they send out too many. I have my preferences to receive ALL communication. I want to be able to see everything that a potential buyer is getting and I will decided what I want to see/don't see. So, maybe I just get blasted with a ton?
There could be so many things that happened from the poster. The emails are automated. They said they looked at item then bought item then TWO days later got an email with things eBay never showed them in the first place. There are so many reasons that they wouldn't have seen those items. Store owner on vacation with items hidden. Item not listed yet. Lots change in two days on eBay.
I personally don't see a problem with this ... other than for me personally, the emails are more annoying than anything.

eBay For Business FB Page: Chap, there really isn't a "popular kid/popular group" on that page. It's their business page. It's growing at a rapid pace. They don't answer everything that's posted for everyone. If you need a direct response, send them a message. It used to take a day, but now it's more around a week. Also, if you post make sure you tag them in your question.

The emails generally don't bother me and I understand sending them out to people who are browsing, but post-sale is a bit much (and that's a new one on me). The way they track people on that site, they should be able to manage to also track if they actually purchased that item which they browsed- if they simply are unable to do this, they need to stop with these bait emails.

Exactly. It's foolish to send out emails of like items of something just purchased. Here ya go - you should have purchased cheaper. WTH? You browsed "certain item" ... at $16.17. We found one similar for only $14.57 + FREE SHIPPING I bought this item at 16.17 + Free Shipping, based on the seller performance. I'm on my mettle with this because I'm feeling a little cornered lately. Etsy is running a test where just random browsers (members) can mark down sellers if they think their shipping is too high (without purchase) - I read that bulletin right after reading about this post-sale email, and the two have put me in a sour mood.
