This was the response about being paid -
@the_fancy_fox I think our expert sellers time is far too valuable to be compensated by some token financial gifts.
Instead we’re offering something something a lot more enticing: The ability to influence and shape the experience for your area of expertise.
That is a pretty bold request.

Bet this is the last time that the CFO will be allowed to open his mouth and stick his foot in it.

I don't think Ebay can have a higher ASP while they have a flea market / auction house reputation. How many people use Ebay as their 'go to' place for shopping when they need something? Amazon, Walmart, Houzz, Etsy etc... are capturing the market.
And they are having a problem retaining customers. Ebay is a PITA to shop and find stuff. They don't make it easy anymore.

If eBay wants a higher ASP, they need to stop autofilling the price on the SYI form. It defaults to $0.99. Ebay also needs to stop constantly telling sellers to lower prices.

SaveSave"So hopefully that's clear" I tried twice to read and make sense of that whole mess of a quote; it just made my head hurt. Fidget spinners hurt their stats? I think there's some kinda mass denial at the head offices in San Jose. Geez; I wanna be a cheerleader but it's easier with money in my Paypal and without endless returns in my mailbox. SaveSave

You don't remember Hollering Man?
They had a video circulating of him standing up and yelling that year. I remember he yelled.... LOOK AROUND, LOOK AROUND, NO ONE HERE and some other not so nice words.
Wasn't that the second year of Donahoe's "disruptive innovation" he used to brag about? The sellers really revolted back then.

Yes - it was really something. He started yelling from his seat towards the back, then got and strode towards the front yelling. The room was half empty and he was telling them to look around. The panelists (I think they were all kind of the identikit admin types all in their eBay blue shirts) were looking a bit stuffed. I think it was the 2010 show. I had been going to go but had a schedule conflict. After that I wished I had.

Didn't they used to have volunteers on the boards? Every single of us were volunteering our time helping other ebay sellers, and they made the boards so unusable no one posts there anymore.

When Terrell and his lot destroyed them, they lost years of archived specialist knowledge. When I was doing estate clearing they helped me so much. I tried to pay it forward. The old VCA was actually written up in an article published I believe by one of the auction houses being one of the most knowledgeable resources around with true experts. Of course trolls destroyed that, then lithium did the rest. To me how the boards were handled typified eBay's approach to pretty much everything. Terrell, supposedly director of community management had never even been in the forums.

I remember that, they deleted years and years of threads and valuable info.
No one minded helping, because it was a community and we had fun, too.

there is a huge difference between volunteering with chit chat and a free exchange of ideas at the watercooler and helping out when you feel like it and doing extensive research UNPAID for shits and giggles.
one is a leisure activity. the other is free labor.

I totally agree. I was just saying that once they had practically what they wanted and threw it (and us) away.

Token financial gifts pay my electric bill. The satisfaction of helping others by taking time out of my day to share my knowledge doesn't.

It's spin of the most obvious kind - we're REALLY NOT THAT STUPID, I mean, we're a bunch of merchants, not worshipful children. He's playing to a tough crowd and needs to be a little less, um, naïve perhaps is the word. A lot of us would probably do a lot for an effort that was actually a cooperative, but a company who rags its sellers, has stupid little badges and is now trying to drive us out of business with ridiculous return policies? Really? It's like that old Rainier beer commercial: "GET IT YOURSELF, BOB!"

@mr_lincoln here is the type of feedback we're looking for:
1) Incorrect/missing information on products 2) Missing products from our catalog 3) Issues with category structure 4) Issues with Ratings & Reviews 5) Sellers who are involved in malicious activity etc. I have gotten plenty of feedback on all of these issues for which I'm extremely thankful. I've been following up on those issues and have fixed some of them at least. But I want to empower more of these expert sellers to be able to fix these issues themselves. I feel this will take eBay back to it's roots and give more power to the community.
Call me an eternal optomist but I feel despite some of the failed programs of the past, we can turn things around and work together to make this program a success.
There have been a lot of questions on the incentives for sellers to participate in this program. I want to have a more focused discussion on that topic with sellers that have expertise in the areas I pointed out and have a genuine interest in the program. There are plenty of options I have in mind and I'm sure we can land on something that works for everyone. I would encourage you guys to fill in the quick 1 minute survey that Era sent out and we will follow up with you after that. Thank you to all of you who have already done that.
www.surveymonkey.com/r/EBAYPRODUCTEXPERTSHe must be a new eBay employee, because eBay HAD all of this years back before eBay started throwing sellers under the bus and ignoring reported listings. SMH.

Is this Sayed? He strikes me as someone decent who got shoved into this thankless job and is trying to make the best of it. I think he is new, for some reason. He was probably about 8 years old when a lot of us started selling on the site.

The books and CD catalog needs a ton of help. I come across some where the number of discs is wrong all the time. I double check these on Amazon and Discogs and then uncheck the box for prefilled info. Then a box pops up to submit changes, so I do. But it's never corrected.
From what I hear books is pretty bad; wrong category, wrong format, etc.

What is wrong with this company? This "catalog" has been going on now for how many years, and they still don't have it straight?
Why don't they pay distributors/manufacturers/consultants/whomever some $$$ for the info they need on the products. They are going to rely on sellers, most of whom are probably good and know the product they are selling, but what about the sellers that don't have a clue and will only mess this thing up worse?
On the other hand, remember MarniSue was working directly with a lot of clothing sellers on the item specifics (I think Zoe was helping her on that) but they NEVER took most of the advice and did what they wanted anyway. Ebay listens to no one.

They don't want to pay for the information. They could hire a team to do the drudge work of grinding through the catalog specifications and then keep at least a few of them on permanently to update. They want it done for free? Sell the CEO's damned jet if you're so strapped for cash.

I've also tried to supply corrected info for the book/CD portion of the catalog - nothing ever happens.

So remind me again- why do we need a catalog? Isn't something "static" gonna be impossible to maintain to be current (relevant) accurate and reflect constant changes, improvements and actual item condition? Since I sell 99.5% used items I've never once used the catalog so have no idea what it's all about. But the idea of 'financial compensation" being inappropriate did make me LOL & roll my eyes. Go ahead eBay, insult me by giving me money
