Uh oh, second quarter earnings must really be at the bottom of the tank if they are announcing cost cutting measures right before the quarter closes.

They did this to themselves. They keep wasting money on tinkering with crap over and over - just one example. Like that new shipping page Denise posted about - for what reason do they need a new shipping page? What department is doing all this and how much are they getting paid to do it and why is ebay wasting funds on this BS? All the new Store Fronts a few months ago - all this adds up and this kind of stuff is rampant throughout the site. Changes after changes for no reason. Giving lying buyers free money back all the time, now they are in the hole so they are trying to put the sellers on the hook for it with the new SNAD BS.
Now they lay off hundreds of people and end the Radio Show (good riddance) because they blow funds on all kinds of unnecessary things. It's coming to a head and they are doing it to themselves, can't they see it?

I'll actually miss eBay Radio, not because of Unca' Grief but they had some good guests on there and their call-in was helpful. Sometimes they hosted members of eBay admin and it might be the only time we'd really get the real low-down. So I know I've said this a couple of times, but they've vacated the CTO position and moved the former holder (can't remember his name) to some other position - this is a self-described 'tech company' with no CTO. This is the main article: www.ecommercebytes.com/C/abblog/blog.pl?/pl/2018/6/1530198108.html

eBay couched the end of the live web-radio program as a retirement of the program's outside producer, Lee Mirabel, whose company, Voicemarketing Inc., provided the technology to run eBay Radio.
If she is retiring, then it's not specifically part of the cost cutting from the layoffs, at least not in the sense that ECB's misleading title implies.

That's an odd reason to shut down a program if it was popular, though. I kind of thought that Griff had run out of steam or something which *would* make sense. IMHO, her retirement is an excuse for eBay to take more control over their media. My suspicions arise from the sudden 'outage' of the Q&A after the shareholder's broadcast. With their own podcasts they can control marcom. That's not all that unusual for companies to do.

If I was holding Ebay stock this morning, I wouldn't be saying the same thing tonight.
I think their second quarter earnings will disappoint and their rest of year outlook is not going to be encouraging.

Lee told Griff she was retiring right after Open last year. This has been in the works since then.
It's not so much that she's retiring, it's that her and her husband own Voice Marketing Radio Network, who did the live broadcasts (among other broadcasts outside eBay).
They're just chaning the format. They will do a once a week prerecorded podcast with Griff. This will also give Griff time to help tend to his disabled husband. It will not be the same at all and I feel it will fall to the wayside sooner rather than later. Because the great thing about Radio is that is was live and they would have pop in guests (eBay staff with up to the minute info) and live call ins with questions.
Gotta give it to Ina. She'll try and spin anything to get people riled up LOL.

Well, someone has to see through the murk.
I don't know if this will last, either - there won't be the same connection with a podcast as with a live radio show, and this show had longevity.

I don't think sellers need Ina to get us riled up LOL. Ebay's doing a fine job of complete mismanagement all by themselves!

She is a voice that can get info to sellers without ebay removing posts or threads. Will the podcasts even be relevant? Are they going to screen them for policy changes? Nothing like sellers hearing how to handle a situation and then in reality it's a ... uh, no wait - we don't do that anymore. And then you have outsourced service reps putting sellers on hold while they look up what a podcast is.

She/They also contact eBay, Etsy etc to verify rumours, changes and the like. They've also helped enact change when needed. TBH they're the sometimes the only representation sellers and buyers have. Like most I ignore most of the tired hacks on the comment section-some of the people who post though have informative comments.

There's an opportunity to make a very relevant series of podcasts with updates, policy reviews, guest interviews with admin etc The question is will they do it? It takes someone knowledgeable and enthusiastic to make it their baby. They can do this and really make it worthwhile, or just sop it out to a knucklehead like whatshisname Terrell. IAC I'll be listening.

Gotta give it to Ina. She'll try and spin anything to get people riled up LOL. Because her readership depends on it. Just like all the other on-line reporting that depends on advertising for their revenue. NOT a fan of Ina’s, at all.

Yeah, I think that's one of her greatest strengths, the access she has to Ebay. I ignore the comments too, well, I read them for amusement & yes, some are good, tho' I'm not the fan of Marie that you are, but the regulars in general say the same predictable things. Doesn't mean they're incorrect. I think Ina does a great service for the seller community & she's always been very responsive when I've contacted her. The few times I have it's specifically b/c of that access to Ebay! She seems to be able to cut through the BS & get to the right people at Ebay & get the real story. Which there's really no other way to do. The Ebay boards are a mess & Customer Service is a complete joke, as we all know.

Some of you may not be a fan of Ina's, but oftentimes eCommerceBytes is the only thing eBay will respond to. I don't care for her slant sometimes, but she's media and does what all media does - puts a spin on things. eBay PR does the same thing. We'd be stuck with a lot of crappy policies had eCommerceBytes not gotten involved and made those stupid policies and the seller repercussions public.

Also, I wouldn't call that same handful of people who post constantly their target audience - they're just like the same old hacks that post over and over on newspaper comment sections, who are usually about 1% of the readership. I don't know why most of them hang around.

I know I shouldn't laugh because I sell things there, but I had to laugh when I opened your link, Kritter
Bunch of stupid asses is all I could say to myself - it's so pathetic it's not really funny!
Quite a few of you sellers here could sit these idiots down and tell them exactly what they are doing wrong, step by step.
ETA: I was just thinking how messed-up things are on ebay when I was trying to figure out what items I could put on sale with this new 14-day hold thing. Imagine falling stock, low sales, low outlook and projections, and a seller can't put items on MM sale to try to SELL things on their site? I can't get over the whole stupidity of this company.
Kritter - you should post that article on one of the ebay boards!

They're also laying off more people in the bay area and Portland.
I care about eBay and was embarrassed about their sorry attempt to grandstand on Prime Day (I expect it cracked up Amazon's ad dept to see it, though). They could have done so much better a job of getting in on the action as a distinctive competitor but they have such tunnel vision - all they did was highlight how much MORE one gets with Amazon Prime than buying a single widget on eBay. It played so perfectly into Amazon's campaign that if I didn't know, I'd have thought someone from Amazon had designed it. All of their catch-words were Amazon and all it did was keep Amazon in the front of people's minds, even if they were looking at eBay.
Unless the site gets leadership with real vision, they're just going to dribble along like this.

And yes, eBay's 'prime day' campaign did send me over to Amazon because it reminded me that there were some items I needed to pick up.
And what's odd is that individual sellers on ebay often give better customer service and prices than Amazon, but no credit from eBay for that.

Didn't buy anything from ebay, some Terramycin cat eye cream on Amazon, and went freaking sandal buying crazy on several other sites.
Scooped up numerous pairs of Clark and Earth Origin sandals. The prices were way too tempting and sandals are one of my purchase weaknesses.

They would pull that post very fast for sure - no way would they leave that up.
It's really sad, what Donahoe started and Wenig is following through on.
This news coming out today is bad timing - right before the convention - that's a big drop.

Well, there may be an up side - there may be less cheerleading and more asking some hard questions and bringing up issues. No one goes to one of those conventions, as far as I know, who doesn't care about the future of eBay. If my sales had been as they were two years ago I would have attended as well, but I can't justify the expense, even as a write-off.
