If you do not already listen to Etsy Success podcasts regularly, they are worth adding into your routine. I listen to them while working, and they are only released every 2-3 weeks so it is not overwhelming.
You may already know I help admin a large Facebook group for Etsy shops - one of the things we get over there are a subset of disgruntled sellers that believe we (the admins who are fielding and helping to tackle questions) are making stuff up or even are paid Etsy cheerleaders (ummm.... no....). We really try to push the concept that people pay more attention to the literature and information that Etsy is fully transparent about but so few sellers take the time to look or keep up!!!
Recently we saw "well meaning" sellers recommend to a new shop owner that she focus more on listing a large quantity of items first instead of focusing on the quality of her listings in terms of photographs and SEO... when Etsy themselves suggests otherwise. (There is no point in shelling out listing fees for tons of items if nobody is going to find them via search or open a listing because the photo isn't nice.) The top most recent podcast discusses some really important things every shop should know and do, and they [the entity that actually runs the platform] cite research from actual customers, not rumor and conjecture from the peanut gallery
I hope this helps Also, pay attention to your Etsy emails and make sure you are not only keeping up with the stuff, but using their featured items to keep your own SEO in line! Just simply paying attention and being more active about keeping on trends has done wonders for me personally!

I'd never heard of the podcasts until I noticed the link yesterday. Thanks for the heads-up- I'll definitely give it a listen.

I read any print information that Etsy issues but haven't listened to podcasts, finding the print info taking up enough time, but thanks for reminding me of them because actually, I could listen to them while I work on images - I already listen to the Ebay podcasts.
Yes, there is a lot of peanut gallery information, and people who ask questions that have already been answered. The "simpler finances" thread on the forums about drove me crazy.

Though I wish Etsy would send those emails through Convos similar to what eBay does - the email I use for Etsy is my junk email where receipts, etc. go. I already get WAY too much email and I have to winnow it out somehow.
