I was happy to find a new with tags FP top, til I got ready to list it. It's side zip, and the zipper is busted. It will have to be replaced.
Sell as is? Have it repaired (I can barely sew on a button so I can't do it)? Toss?
Any suggestions appreciated!

If zipper is closed and won't open and can still be put on over the head, I would sell as is with flaw noted.
If it is partly open and won't close, and one of those side zippers that are kind of useless because the top can still be put on over the head, you can remove zipper and sew up the seam. Listing with repair.
I wouldn't go to the trouble or having the zipper replaced, it would probably cost more than it's worth. (unless you can sell it for over $50, even then not sure I would bother)

I would probably toss it. That is too much damage for me to deal with. I just tossed a NWT free people jacket with sort of lacy embroidery in back, that was all ripped up on one flower. Too hard to sew it back, would look wonky, so I just tossed it. I'll mend a tiny hole, sew a button, add a couple beads, deal with stubborn stains, but some things are just too much! broken zipper on a free people is in that realm for me. If it was a brunello cucinelli I would replace the zipper. Not a free people!
OMG this is my first post - why is my avatar so awful? How do I change it? I look like a bald 10 year old boy! Ok I figured it out. Thank goodness, I like my new girl so much better (and she looks much more like me!)

I would find out the cost of replacing the zipper (last time I had one done it was $8.00 but that was a few years ago) and add that to the purchase price and then check completeds and see if it's worth investing in the new zipper.

A zipper replacement around here is closer to $20. I did a quick search, $17 for pants, $25 for an unlined jacket, $35 for a lined jacket. I think the last time I did one at a different place, it was $20 & that was years ago.
So yeah, I'd probably re-donate, unless I knew someone who could do it on the cheap.

I would list it as is, I've purchased ones that need zippers for my girls and replaced them myself, bet there are others that will too.

I think it would depend on how much it sells for. If it is unlined, I would try and replace it, but I do sew quite a bit.

Thanks all, sorry to seagull, I sat down to a listing marathon after posting! 37 new items. I now have over 1000 items in my store, and not one darn sale today. I'm doing something wrong. OMG I just had a cha-ching, I should complain more often!
Its broken in the unzip position unfortunately. I called the cleaners here that do repairs and they said it would be $15 to $20 to repair. The original price was $128, so I hate to toss it when someone handy like dpaddy could fix it. I guess I'll list and disclose. Thanks everyone for your input!

Are there any completeds for your top? If it's really rare maybe a buyer would be willing to pay for the repair (although I don't know if FP items are worth repairing, it's not like they're rare vintage or high-end designer goods).

I, too, would sell as is. You may get a buyer who can replace it themselves, rather than taking it to a seamstress. Definitely do NOT toss! Someone will buy it!

I would try to sell it as is too. It's too nice, I'm sure someone will pick it up. The one you showed does look like a dress though. You could get more money for a dress.

Boy that would be a short dress! lol
I'm hesitant because I got a soft positive and dinged stars from the buyer of this dress who said it was a top. It never even crossed my mind that it was a top, I thought it was clearly a dress.

Thanks, can't hurt to try! I've never had much luck with getting them to remove dings though since they are supposed to be anonymous.

Maybe it is the angle of the picture. How long is it?
( The red one definitely looks like a dress to me)

Delta,
It isn't anonymous anymore, the transaction shows up in the defect report now.
