Easy Peasy
Have the image you like on your computer.
In the avatar maker click on Upload/Link.
In the box that comes up click on Select Image.
Find the image on your computer you want and click on it to upload it.
Chose the Combine them, use the Uploaded/Linked as a background for your Default Avatar option
Click the Save Avatar Changes and you are set.
Have fun.
ETA: square images work best. And don't forget that the head of your avatar will cover whatever is in the middle of the background.

You can use pics you have taken or search online for free clip art images.
After you have played with it for awhile you get to know what kind of images will work. I save up a bunch then late at night try them out to see what works and what gets rejected.
I have mine saved to files in basic categories; critters, landscapes, garden, food, weather, etc. That way I can easily pick what fits my mood for the day.

When you uploaded the image could you see it downloading?
Go back into the avatar maker and click on Use only the Uploaded/Linked to see if your image is there.
If it's not then something went wrong with the upload and you can try it again.
If it is there then you should be able to click on the combine and watch them combine into your image. Then click on save and it should work.

Thanks-they downloaded and show up separately. But won't combine. Can you give me a link to one of your sites that you use? I have tried 3 different sites, none of which are working. Guess that is the problem.

What kind of image are you using, a jpg? I don't think png images work.

Ok weird.
I just tried uploading one of my images in your avatar maker.
It uploaded fine, but like you said it won't combine.
Maybe sign off and then sign on again and see if it will work.
If not I will have to do some searching in the help files to figure out what is going on.
