I'd give this 10 thumbs-ups if I couldI Working on my taxes yesterday I was in my Etsy finances area and no.single.column. matched; it was clear as mud what I owed at any one time, or why I paid what I did. Simplifying this mess is way past due and SO WELCOME!!

I'm so glad I have an accountant. There's no way my math challenged brain could ever get through all that tax stuff. I just printed everything out and gave it to her. She knows what to do with it! lol

That will make things a lot easier! Nothing is intuitive about their financial reporting beyond being able to see your bill - you have to hunt all over the place.
ETA: Humph - a lot of pearl-clutching going on in the comments - I don't see the problem. I sell on three different sites and don't have problems with financials save for Etsy because it's convoluted as it is now. My only question is 'what' are the 'applicable taxes'? If they're talking about federal, they have to provide EVERYONE with a 1099, not just the over $20k sellers. If they're talking about state, then it's just their money handling for WA and PA, the only states they're doing taxes for now, which for me is a matter of pennies, I don't sell that much in-state.

Well, the pinned forum thread on this subject has really blown up - it's at 90 pages now. I'm not getting where people are so upset about not getting 'cash back' points on their CCs for paying monthly - that's a PERK, people and it isn't Etsy's problem. It reminds me of the sellers on ebay who were gifted three free relists (not available to everyone, just special them) crying and moaning when it was stopped. I do understand the constant daily 'take' from Etsy fees being a problem for some, it's a bit complicated and I can see problem glitches immediately (particularly for returns) but some of them are actually waiting for sales to even be able to purchase supplies to make more items and are depending upon Etsy to float them monthly 'loans' - again, another perk, and if they're that close to the edge, then anything is going to knock them over.

Etsy's funny about how large a "monthly loan" aka accrued selling & listing fees they'll allow each seller. I always considered eBay's once-a-month payment due as them floating me a short-term loan. They'll probably tighten it up too and I can't say I blame 'em tho there'll be months when it would hurt. Returns could definitely be a problem on Etsy tho they're (knock on wood) not as frequent as on eBay.

Returns could definitely be a problem on Etsy tho they're (knock on wood) not as frequent as on eBay. It's kind of flip-flop from eBay where the monthly fees bill can hurt some months. There's no doubt that for a lot of people living in close circumstances they'll have a pinch from time to time, we all do (I could *barely* make paying my bill two months in a row because sales were so bad), but some of these people are posting that they can't buy supplies until they sell something, at all, which means they've been able to squeak along simply because Etsy 'loans' them money. This isn't a loan they're initiating, handling, paying off, this is a free loan to keep them floating. The deal is, though, is that Etsy also advances payments for shipping, and that's where it differentiates from other sites (so far as I know) - they also 'loan' sellers the shipping money. I've never figured out how Etsy can afford that. Yeah, returns may be a problem, and it all feels like nickle and dimeing to me - I wish they'd just make it so we have to pay our own shipping at the time of shipping and then bill us monthly for the rest.

SO many people still super upset about the automated payments now. PayPal essentially does the same thing - they take their cut as soon as it hits your account and you can't say boo about it... yet nobody seems to remember that. I'm with Chap on the credit card rewards thing... so many temper tantrums and "final straws" going on.

Wonder if there will be another big bailing out of shops similar to the PayPal change?
