I got an email yesterday that I have a follower. I am not a seller. I have bought a few things over the year.
How & why would someone follow a buyer?

Etsy has a silly 'follow' culture - everyone follows everyone else no matter what. Fans can have fans!

They may also have hit a wrong button, thinking that they were following something else. The site is kind of post-literate non-intuitive.
