After 21 years of having Labradors, I finally broke down and bought a patio door insert doggie door. I was hoping for a certain technology to come along but it hasn't yet. Asked around and the lowest price was on Chewy. Just a matter of which patio door to put it in and getting hubby to put it in. We have a deck patio door and a door under the deck. I think under the deck but then it will be ground level. We have a 6 foot vinyl fence so hopefully no critters will get in. If it is on the deck, it will not be functional in snow.
So anyway, it should be here tomorrow. Somehow I know the technology I am looking for will come in next week. I am looking for an app enabled door. The ones enabled by collars wouldn't work as I have a dog that eats collars.
6 dogs leads to a ton of opening and closing the doors all day long. We have cameras over the doors and so we can keep an eye on it. It would be for when we are home and has a slide in cover.

I bought the kind that you insert into a glass patio door. It was on the deck off my bedroom. My cats are large breed so I got the medium size. I chased out a few neighbor cats and finally had to take it out after finding a possum at the food bowl and a raccoon in my bedroom the same night. It has a one-way/two-way lock and a solid slide too, but that defeats the purpose for me. I think you’ll love yours for dogs, since you’ll probably close it at night?

Haven’t decided everything yet. The only animals we get in our yard are squirrels and rabbits. The dogs chase them though. So if I see my hubby tomorrow we will figure it out. We could always go with 2.

My neighbor is using my door now and her dog is always laying in the sun in front of it. She hasn’t had any unwelcome animals come through and I think it’s because a dog lives there.

How funny cause I started looking at them this week. I'm on the 3rd floor so don't have to worry about getting visitors but I have vinyl sliding glass doors on to a balcony. Took a look on ebay and there the sellers say you can't mix vinyl with aluminum but online petdoor places say some petdoors are made only for vinyl so that's why that might matter. I'm clueless - does it make a difference?

Coming FedEx Home Delivery. Should be here by the 5th which might work better anyway as hubby is busy with work.

Whoa! I bought mine like that for less than $75. I just went to the Lowe’s site where I bought mine to see the difference and all theirs are in that price range now too. Big increase in just three years. If I had known, I probably wouldn’t have just given it to the neighbor.

We had one of these when Oscar was little. OMG - he took that doggie door as an invitation to take anything under 5lbs and hide it in our back yard. I ended up finding mixing bowls, remote controls......and even one of my bras out in the back yard LOL!
I would LOVE to have one for the pups now. But it would be impossible. They would go in and out all the time to bark at the squirrels and neighbor dogs. ALL.THE.TIME.

Door is up. Now to get them to use it when we aren't showing them what to do.

They are doing pretty good. It is working great for Gunner because now he can come in when he wants. Mastering coming back in is still an issue with 2 of them. Figure by the end of next week they will all have it down pat.
