www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2018/2/1519091217.htmlOK, 4 buy boxes instead of 1 is a good idea, and I can see where that's a smart innovation. But, I don't sell things that come in 'catalogues' and they can't seem to get beyond mass market commodities like iPhones, etc. and copying Amazon. It's going to be a heckuva summer with trying to get a website off the ground, but I guess that's my next step.

“It’s a big gamble for the company”—no truer words were ever written. What I’ve seen so far of their effort to categorize has had lots of issues, and he’s saying it’s going to be the only way it will be presented by this summer? Oy vey.

gag.
now you know the explanation for zombie themes and belly dance skirts--the "evolutionary and ongoing" product pages. buckle up....it ought to be a wild ride as it evolves to more insanity. yesterday i saw a box for the trend of vertical stripes--i swear i live under a rock since i had no idea stripes were having a moment until ebay told me so (nor was it clear to me how to move my striped blouses into this box--but its going to be even more important than ever TO know).
as for the four choices, even amazon shows me 50 pages of crap--some even unrelated--and i somehow manage.
but i think someone needs to teach thekloset how to open a closet--on poshmark or wherever. sounds like its time.

This has been talked about for awhile and already exists as an option in a lot of the catalog categories. Jeremy had a great example of how this is a failure for the used CD market.
This will not change in the used clothing market. At least not for awhile. Bob Kubpens talked about it on a FB video and specifically mentioned this market.

It all depends on how they develop this - my concern in reading about a wholesale migration was recalling Jeremy's experience with the buy box - that's why I thought having 4 buy boxes was a better idea as they're closer to what is offered on the site and what buyers are searching for. BUT, none of this ever happens in a vacuum and there have already been effects from eBay's increasing tilt away from long tailed items. If eBay doesn't up their coding game, it'll turn into the same frankensearch we had when we had the Voyager front end and Cassini back end and people were searching for apples and coming up with elephants. I had to chuckle at the New Wenig - first with the payment system and then with the product-based search "We will do this! You will have no choice! You will obey!"

I don't know that it will put me out of business or anything, but it sure does affect me in that they only use the stock title and not the featured buy box seller's title. Since used clothing doesn't use UPCs, they shouldn't change anything in that regard, but I'm sure they can find a way to screw it up. I'm considering moving this stuff to my own website, but taking that plunge is a pretty tough choice. It's a lot of work and will take a lot of time to get traffic there. Plus the monthly fee is something that I balk at, too.

Plus the monthly fee is something that I balk at, too. Yes, used clothing (and most new) doesn't use UPCs, but we need to look at this holistically. It will impact on long-tail items, used items, etc. there is no doubt, but how is a mystery. Best case scenario is an intelligent job where the non-UPC search isn't relegated. I tend to go by experience rather than what eBay admin states, as I've seen too many contradictions in the past. These situations are never black and white, anyway, so it's better to keep an eye on the situation. Site tools like Shopify are not expensive - the monthly fees are cheaper than eBay, I can say that, but it's more work. I had got a site up and running when too much came up in my personal life and I had only so much time to spend on it so closed it - it's one of those long term time investments. It just depends on where one wants to go with their selling and how much time one wants to spend marketing. I do a fair amount for Etsy so if I were to go to a stand-alone, it would be more of the same, but it definitely is not instant dough, which can be a real problem when that's what one needs!

This:
Wenig said in that example, eBay might show four iPhones rather than 10,000: the best price for a new iPhone, the best price for a used iPhone, the best price for a refurbished iPhone, and "the best analog for the iPhone, which is an Android phone at a different price."
As a buyer - it's easy to shop this way. Condense everything and then choose from there.
As a seller - it's a true race to the bottom. The race may be more fair now that the PO is nailing cheating sellers. But it's still a race.
How hard do buyers have to dig to find the other 9,996 iphones listed?
