OK wise plant people, I need a plant suggestion. I found a gorgeous Talavera pot at a yard sale today for $5. Woo Hoo major score for me. It's a good sized pot that is flat on one side so it has that buried in the dirt tilted look. It has some blue, but the major color is bright yellow. I need a plant that can cascade out the opening and flow out from there. Something that's not too dainty, has nice greenery and good sized flowers that will look good with the yellow. Keep in mind that it gets HOT here and the pot will be in direct sun for most of the day. I do water daily but need something that's isn't delicate and wilty (is that even a word?). I like minimal care plants, something that I don't have to constantly dead head or prune to shape. Any suggestions? I'm getting a head start on the holiday.

How about a cascading geranium? My climate is soooo different than yours, so I'm not familiar with some of the indigenous plants in your area. I just know geraniums like the sun/heat, thought they do have to be deadheaded, and last year I saw some that said they were cascading. And they come in such a variety of colors that one should fit the bill to compliment the yellow.

The hardiest sun plant that I have is bougainvillaea.
In fact, if you water them of feed them once they are established, they will not bloom. They only bloom under stress which is what we have during the summer months here.
They come in all colors. White or coral would be pretty with yellow. Nice green leaves too.

Geraniums do well here but I already have 4 pots of them so something different would be better. I like Bouga's Kritter but that would be too big for this. That and the last 3 I tried to have died big time on me so I am gun shy about them. Wave petunias, I didn't even think of them. That might work. Maybe some kind of succulent? I don't know much about them.

Calibrachoa (spelling?) is a nice cascading plant. The flowers are small, they're similar to the petunias and you get an abundance of them. They're also hardy. There's more flower to them than greenery. The leaves are very small. You can add the potato vine for your accent plant inside. It would look gorgeous. Oh - go purple. Here's a photo of the purple. And below that is the green and purple potato vine. OR you could do yellow cascading flowers and add the purple vine. That would be pretty.

great suggestions, I like the look of those.
I did look at Lowes today for potato vines, but they haven't gotten them in yet.
I will have to keep checking.

Are you familiar with moss rose (portulaca)? It's a succulent, small leaves, doesn't get more than 4-5 inches tall, spreads out, thrives in full hot sun and dry climates. It comes in shades of red & pink & I think, yellow. Flowers are small but numerous. I grew up in the southern tip of Texas.

A picture of the pot would help immensely, you know.

portulaca could work too, especially in the yellow.
Heck so many good ideas I may need to get more pots.
I will get pic of the pot after I come back from PT and get it cleaned up. I don't have any other yellow in my yard but it goes so well with the blue ones I may need to get more yellow for accents.

Ok, here is the pot I love Talavera pottery, they are handpainted so each one is different and I like the rustic handmade look they have.

I would us the bright green "margarita" and mix with wave petunias. Maybe salmon and yellow petunias? My .02.

Your pot is gorgeous! I picked up some of the Mexican dishware from an auction. I paid around $30 because no one was paying any attention. It was an eight piece set with platters, bowls, etc.. I ended up selling it on Craigslist a few months later. Seeing the pot, I'd go with a burnt orange color. Like below. Burnt orange, green or purple accent plant (no flowers) and you can add yellow or white small blooming flowers.

What a steal on that pot Shirley! Yellow Moon Torenia would look sweet in it.
