That is too sad. Talk about knowledge you wish you didn't have. He would have happily went on with his life not knowing that he won. Now that he knows he won but no longer has the ticket, it will haunt him for the rest of his days.

For his sake I hope the ticket doesn't ever show up. Eventually finding it and knowing that if he had just looked in that spot before and he would be a millionaire would just be too cruel.

Oh man that would suck so bad. Yes living with what would have been would be hard. But so long had lapsed it's no surprise he couldn't find it. He probably threw it out.
I heard one on the radio about a guy that bought what he thought was one of the big winners, all #'s matched. But when he turned it in, it turned out to be printed 15 seconds after the deadline for that drawing so he didn't get anything.
Heard another that won a huge scratchers ticket only to find it was a misprint and he really didnt' win anything. They did offer him $100 in scratchers as a consolation prize since it was their printing error.

I heard about the 15 seconds. He bought two tickets, the first was in the winning time frame and the second tickets with correct numbers was 15 secs late. Again, how does one move on from that!

Oh mine didn't mention that he bought 2. So basically the time it took to print the first one knocked the 2nd one out. Harsh, on the other hand he had all week prior to buy a ticket, shouldn't wait until the last second, literally.

Now any of those cases would be a major bummer for life.
But the 15 seconds too late would probably chap the worst of all.

When I worked at Chevron, the system locked out ticket sales like 5 minutes before the drawing. Unless each terminal is different, I don't know how he even bought tickets seconds after the deadline.

Depends on the state - I can see a few states letting in 'late tickets', playing the odds that the ticket won't be a winner and the state makes a little more $$ on that day's lottery sales.
