Never finance any furniture from Conn's. They're very aggressive and annoying in their collection calling.
So annoying that they called me 5 times yesterday, despite my payment not being late until Monday 3/16. (Due on 6th, late after 10 days.)
Even more annoying?
I paid online last night. They've called 4 times today.
Last two months? I paid on the due date, in the evening when I got home (usually I pay the day before). Still on time, before their cutoff time. They called the next morning, and sent a 'you need to pay' letter postmarked the 7th. Apparently the collection people don't have access to the latest payment info.
First month I had the account? They called 5 days ahead of my due date to tell me to pay. Told them it wasn't due yet and WTH was I being called? Told me "it was a courtesy call". Really? I don't remember activating that reminder feature when I set up my online payment profile.
Azzhats.
Never, ever again will I do business with these people.
Just venting.

That makes me INSANE! Never heard of Conn's, but I feel for you! How dare you call me or even write me before the due date? HOA's do this all the time, send out huge mailers, multiple times using OUR money to ask for money that isn't even due yet. Ugghhh, one of my pet peeves. I'd be calling whoever oversees the collection agencies. Attny General maybe? Dept of Regulatory Agencies?

They have a very antiquated computer system from what I saw in the store when I bought my furniture. I applied online, using my CORRECT and current address (which has been my address since 2008). I get approved, go to the store, pick out furniture, they pull up my application….
And we see it had a very old Florida address on it. Which would have been ok except when the sales clerk entered my correct address, the system flagged it as suspcisious, and she had to call the main credit office. Who then grilled her AND me about the address change and more or less accused me of trying to pull a fast one by "applying with a FL address and having the furniture delivered to a NM address". WTF? I should have walked out of the store right then, TBH.
*Sigh* Just got ANOTHER call. That's five for today. Good thing I paid yesterday. Can you imagine the calls I'd get over the weekend if their very antiquated online payment system didn't batch the weekend payments until Monday night?

This may sound stupid but did you tell them explicitly not to call? There is a law, I don't know if it's state or federal, that collections people cannot call you if you explicitly tell them to stop calling. It worked for me when my employee kept getting calls here at work. They went away and never came back.

Yup. When they called the first time with the "courtesy" call.
I don't mind a call if I've missed the due date, that's to be expected from any lender. But 5 calls a day? AND 5 calls AFTER I've PAID? ONLINE no less. Even worse, when I pay on the due date but after 5:00 pm their time, I get calls the next day. Even though their online payment cut off is much later in the evening. That's just piss poor management, cheap azz programming, and they deserve any negative publicity they get.

I would add them to my blocked caller list so they'd be sent to voicemail. There's no call for that. They need to get their system up to date to show payments when they are made, not days later.

Conn's is popping up around here too. How annoying though, are you happy with what you purchased?

The desk I bought is awesome. I love it! Smoked glass top, 2 desks actually with corner connector. Sort of cherryish wood legs. I can connect as an "L" desk or use as 2 separate desks. I really like it. No issues at all with the desk. I have the two computer desks and corner connector in the Florentina design: www.z-linedesigns.com/collections/OfficeLove seat and chair, so-so. The chemical smell (from fire retardants I guess) was overwhelming at first. Now that it's had a year to air out, it's OK. I bought a love seat from one collection and chair from another collection. Sofa pillows were ugly, but I found the matching throw pillows to the chair at Kohls of all places, and have them on the couch. If you go in and pay cash, Conn's is OK although there are 2 places here with better quality stuff. Just don't use their financing.

Oh that's nice! it's a good thing you're happy with what you got. It'd really stink to not like it AND be pestered by the phone calls

Seems like a really poor name choice for a business.

We got one here but I haven't been in. I had no idea they sold furniture. For some reason in my head, I thought they were like an electronics/appliance store.
Thanks for the the heads up. I hate store financing! All of them LOL!

They sell electronics and appliances too, Liz. I can't wait until I have this paid off and don't have to deal with them. Even more annoying, what I was approved for (24 months same as cash or something like that), got changed when I went to check out and they had the snafu with my address. The credit office felt I wasn't being honest so they set me to 12 months same as cash, and a lower limit. I didn't care about the limit change, what I'd picked out was considerably less than I was approved for anyway. But the financing change pissed me off, especially since it was THEIR stupid system pulling up an old address, one that I didn't even remember so there is no way I'd have even entered it. Last night when I googled, I discovered a LOT of complaints about that, too. Yikes. So if you buy, pay cash or put on your own credit card. Don't finance. But hey, no calls today! Guess the payment batched and updated reports were handed to the collectors this morning

Glad the calls stopped for this month. I never heard of them before so I guess they aren't in this area. We have Westco here and we've purchased a lot through them, some financed, some cash. Always been happy with them, never had any harassing or reminder calls and they carry name brand well built items for the most part.

Our home equity loan went from BOA to GreenTree. They are relentless. Payment due the first. If it's not there the third, they call. It's late the 15th. My pension check goes in the first so I want to make sure it's in there before the bill gets sent. The last time they called, they said they can adjust the date in their system so they won't start calling until a few days later. Still if it's not late until the 15th they should not be calling me at all.

As a rule of thumb, I never give anyone money after they have insulted me. I would have been insulted and told them so and walked out. My credit is immaculate and I intend to keep it that way - anyone willing to mess with me to my face is certain to do it behind my back. I believe if you tell them to stop calling you, they have to stop or you can sue for harassment.

Just yesterday Conn's sent me a pre-approved credit application. Unsolicited and weird, because the only thing ever bought there was a lawn mower and TV, under SO's name...and he paid cash both times. Long story short, I glanced at it before shredding. Out of the kindness of their heart, they'd let me finance up to $2k at 21% annual interest. How sweet...PfffffffT! And if I were you Val, I'd be ripping someone a new AH if they were harassing me like they do you. Guaranteed!

They did, 2 days after I paid. I really do think it's a very antiquated computer system they're using, and also that they probably don't give the collections department the latest info showing payments from the night before.

When looking for a new refrig last year, we thought of Conn's. We couldn't get past their name. Sounds too goofy. So my husband opened up a temp business account at Lowe's, and got a business discount.
We also cannot shop a furniture store called The Dump.

We have a Dump here. Actually the place is rather nice inside. We looked around but ended up going to Ethan Allen.
