I stupidly dropped my laptop, broke the screen, got a cheapie new laptop...but now I no longer have my wonderful Photo Gallery. Photo Gallery was recommended by Jeremy and I adored it. Easy to use, cheap, and did all that I needed for ebay and personal photos.
Can't get it for this computer as it's been discontinued. So I have added Photo Editor and Photo Editor 10. Both of which are almost useless as I can't seem to NAME the picture and one of them can't crop, the other has other issues, put them together and I am STILL wasting a lot of time and still not getting decent photo editing.
I liked PhotoShop Elements long ago but I see that it's $69.99 to buy. Anyone have any ideas of how to get it free or cheap or anything? I see places to download it for free but I don't know if they're scams that would put junk into my computer. It's made by Adobe.
OR is there some way to use these Photo Editor apps that really works? Every review I read says just what I said--really inadequate editing, more for kids. I need something for Win10. Thank you to anyone who knows what to do.

What do you edit? If you just need color correction and cropping, Irfanview worked for me years ago. I’m not sure if it’s available for win10. You could also live on the edge like me and only use eBay’s editor in the SYI.

I'm finding that with these Photo Editors there is no option to SAVE AS--meaning I can't rename the pictures--which means I can't find them again. Also, the color corrections don't work very well and there is no way to straighten, just rotate. Maybe I'll have to buy myself Photo Shop Elements for Christmas. Thanks--and I will look at Irfanview.

Can't you hook up the old hard drive and copy the program over? Can't you install it from backup or the cd/dvd you had of it? That microsoft isn't supporting it any more doesn't really mean anything. I use picasa 3.7 and google hasn't supported it in over 5 years. Gimp is open source and free and runs on most operating systems. Sophisticated program, pretty comparable to photoshop. I also use it if something needs a bit more than picasa can do. www.gimp.org/downloads/

I just got rid of the old computer and anyway I'm kinda dumb about stuff like that. My niece tried to show me Gimp a long time ago but I am waaay to dumb for that. I just did a listing, sort of using a combination of three free Win10 apps. I did find place where you can SAVE and then click something else to SAVE AS so that is a step forward! Maybe I have to work with what I have--the three apps in combination and just get used to it. Thank you though. If I weren't so un-techie, those would have been great ideas.

Having a backup on hand of your 'gotta have' stuff is NOT too techie for anyone.
Do it.

My basic MacBook Pro came with 2 photo editing programs installed- one in the photo download library and another that does photo, image & text editing. Doesn't Windows offer anything anymore? I also use GIMP. It was honestly a PITA to learn but all programs come with a learning curve; TG for youtube! I took a class on using Photoshop Elements cause I was planning to get a copy before I discovered the other editing program in my laptop so I didn't need to bother. But Costco often has Elements on sale- I think it was last holiday season but may have been $70.

I love Google's Picasa, it's not supported anymore, but you can still get a copy & it's free. Is quite robust. Though you may not need a robust editor, it depends on what kind of editing you do. I think that's what Kat was trying to ask you in the 2nd post. Not what pics you edit, but what kind of editing you do to determine how robust of a tool you need.
If you are "un-techie" as you call it, I'm guessing you use very little of the functionality, so something simple would be all you need. Picasa is quite robust, but not up there with a Photoshop, but it's free & is still fairly ez to use.
What type of editing do you do?

I would recommend Picasa. It's fine - it's not supported but there's nothing really to go wrong with it. You can do just about anything on it you need for basic editing including straightening, colour correction, etc. Shallow learning curve - you'll be up and running on it in no time. Also, you can view all of your directories in the sidebar.
Once installed, you can access it by right clicking on any photo on "open with" and choose Picasa. Win 10 also comes with its own photo editing program but it doesn't straighten. It has an excellent colour correction tool, though.
Both you can use "save as" as an option.

I think I'll try downloading Picasa. Right now I'm running around using 3 different programs and one of them has the Save As feature, which is the only reason I use it. And I can't quite figure out WHERE it's saving them to! I search under the name and can rarely find it--but it's in there somewhere. This is not the same Win 10 that was on my old computer, it's a junkier version, I think. Gimp I couldn't use. My niece tried to teach it to me several years ago and I.could.not.do.it. Mostly I need crop, color (warm to cold) (saturation) some other color features that I don't know what to call them, Sharpen, Rotate...the basics. I know I can do some of that in ebay but I want to edit my personal photos too--you know, the pictures of The Dog, your houseplant that finally bloomed, the vacation shots. What I do NOT need cluttering up the program are silly things that these new editors have like Stickers and other kiddie stuff. I guess this is what you get when you buy a cheapo computer though.

Anyone have a safe link to use for Picasa? I am afraid to try to downloads I'm finding. Also, I'm finding that it usually says you can't download it anymore.

Softonic is reliable: picasa.en.softonic.com/It will do everything you need it to do. Just acquaint yourself with the left-hand sidebar which will have options. I use the software that comes with Windows 10 for colour correction, as well.
