What great news for the lovely Kewpie. I'm so glad to hear that her eye is healing and she'll be home with you and Lamington soon.

Kewpie's been home a week and she's turned into the cat they all think she is - quiet, shy, not very active.
This used to be her dinner routine: I'd call her, she'd bolt into the kitchen at full speed, leap onto a chair and then the sink, make her way precariously along the edge as if it was a tightrope, and end up triumphantly on the counter, dancing in circles and meowing. Then she'd stuff her face into the food can to try and eat it before I could get any out. She even did this the night before I first took her to the vet, when her eye was at its worst and very painful.
Now she trundles in, rubs gently against my leg and waits on the floor for her food.
WTF did they do to my cat???
She used to like latex disposable gloves. She has the kind of fur that rises in clouds when you pat her, so you need something rubber to catch it as it leaves the body. She used to come running when she heard me put the gloves on, hoping for a patting. Now she backs off. But I understand this one - they did some very horrible things to her wearing latex gloves. Taking blood, injecting stuff into her eye...
But the quietness is kinda sad. Because I don't know if it's because she's sad. My friend thinks Kewpie's trying to be "good" because if she acts like before she may get sent back to "prison".
The one good thing is that she doesn't venture past the back porch and lawn. She doesn't need to go anywhere else, she has dirt and beetles and sunshine right there. I don't want her walking the neighbourhood with bad vision.
Back to the vet for a check-up next week. I can't tell if the eye is becoming more cloudy or if it's the same. But it's definitely not BULGING. That's emergency time.
Thank you for all your good thoughts and wishes, ladies! I'm pretty convinced that she got to keep her eye with your intervention.

She's still eating and not hiding from you, those are both really good signs. I know some cats act different when they're back from the vet, but it doesn't sound like she's scared or traumatized. Is she letting you pet her? Does she like being brushed? Has her appetite changed at all?

Give her some time. She's been gone for awhile in a place with a very different routine/schedule. She has to adjust just like she adjusted at the vet. Whenever Hootie has been at the vet overnight, it takes him a few days to get back to normal. As long as she's eating and letting you pet her, it's good.

I was hospitalized once with pneumonia and my parents drove in to take care of my dog (and see me too, of course). By the time I was released and got home, they'd completely retrained my dog and my cat. It took a few days for the old traits to come back.

Is she letting you pet her? Does she like being brushed? Has her appetite changed at all? Yes, she lets me pat her if I'm not wearing gloves. We don't use the brush at the moment because it's got big pointy bits that she likes to rub her face against, and I'm afraid she'll poke herself in the eye. (It's a brilliant brush - it collects the hair and you can lift it off in one piece at the end. And it's massagey, being rubber. link ) She still eats ferociously, and she still bashes Lamington when she wants him to back off. But how will she feel when I stuff her in the carrier again to go to her check-up? The poor darling. lol. I'm mean.

If she doesn't have full vision in that one eye her depth perception is going to be way off - that alone will prevent her from taking any chances leaping up on high things. She has to get over being in the hospital and the like. It took Cassie four or five days to come back to normal from her only 5 day hospitalization. She spent two of the days curled up under the covers sleeping, and didn't purr at all - she usually purrs constantly. She's back to her old self, swatting at her sister and marching self-importantly around the house, going outside to patrol, etc., yelling. She's even putting up with my clumsy jabs to give her subq fluids.

Sounds like Kewpie is bouncing back on her own terms! She certainly is! She leaps up onto the kitchen bench again, as long as her chair is nearby to leap from, lol. I have to put flea poison on her tonight or tomorrow, so I'll be able to see if she's gained all her strength back yet. She's still different, though. Kind of nicer. She still makes her needs known but she's more patient and quiet. She just kind of stands on her fat legs, looking at me until I do what she wants. It's sweet.
