I have cable right now, so I've been watching "reality TV" - aka HG TV. I'm developing a severe case of house envy.
And I'm LMAO. A lot of the show episodes should be on Comedy Central.
House Hunters. Hoo boy.
Hubby: I want a Craftsman.
Wifey: I like mid-century modern.
Realtor: Our next house to look at is a red brick Tudor mcmansion wannabe.
Hmmn, I think we have a disconnect here somewhere.
House Hunters International: Couple moving to Portugal (or any other country with lots of history and an Old Town area), they want a place with "character", modern appliances, open floor plan, area in back for garden, walking distance to the entire city, lots of windows, allows pets, a parking space, washer & dryer, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and only want to pay, oh, say, $700-$800 a month rent. Seriously? You can't even find that in the US for that price, kiddos. Watching them face reality as they look at what IS available in their budget range is quite amusing.
The Beach House hunting show (forget the actual name). Eh. Even wilder expectations....beachfront or beach access, 12 bedrooms, 6 baths (OK, I'm exaggerating a bit here), parking for lots of cars, walking distance to everything, fully updated, etc. Oh, but they only want to spend, oh, say, $200,000 max. Well duh. Welcome to the trailer on the south end of town with a bus pass to the beach, folks.
Love It or List It: First few episodes I didn't care for, I thought David and HIllary hated each other. I think, though, I was watching episodes from Season One maybe because they get along pretty well on later episodes and are quite amusing. I do wonder how some of the homeowner couples managed to stay together this long. Yikes!
My personal favorite, Property Brothers. This show is absolutely hilarious to me. First we have the couples who look at the fixer upper houses and grouse about all the work involved in renovating the house. Um, spoiler alert, folks. That's what Jonathan does. The work. You get to demo for a day (vent those frustrations from the closing, eh?) and then he takes over. So why the griping, folks? Second, the spouse who doesn't think Drew knows the market and demands Drew offer a lower price than what he recommends. I admit it, I am often gleeful when the seller declines thecheesy lowball lower offer that the buyer wanted to make. Several lost their first choice house because of this. Third, the couples who micromanage Jonathan. I tell ya, both of these guys are a lot more tactful than I could ever be in their situation. My favorite show, though, was the Asian looking couple, she's a doctor and he's an accountant, and they were both absolutely adorable. That was a fun episode to watch.
I think HGTV should start a new show, "House Hunting Couples Afterwards". I have my doubts that some of these couples survived after the "ordeal" of the show. Or maybe it should be on LIfetime instead....
