(((kat and brother))). Are there any services available to him that would transport him? I was surprised that I could get transportation to my appointments before I was allowed to drive again.

((((kat)))) ((((((pyrex))))) Now that I've dumped the news and have cable at the hotel, I'm getting addicted to HGTV. And getting a really bad case of house envy *sigh* Found a really nice complex in one of the areas I want and it will be $38 over my budget (after taxes are included). I'm whining to myself, "$38 over budget, that's a lot" and thinking "OMG I sound like those whiny house hunter people I hate!" Hit one of the Dillards Clearance Centers here this afternoon. Holy cow is that place big! I didn't find any thing for eBay this time, but I did find a jacket and 3 pairs of jeans for me. I will be checking out both of the clearance centers regularly!!

There's no services available for him for appointments. When he had his colostomy surgery and stem cell surgery they transported him. I think the stem cell researchers will provide a ride for his next follow up, but I'm not sure. We don't even know where he's going to live yet.

That's great! Pace yourself, girl! How close to each other and to you are they? Maybe check the two of them weekly to see which one has the best deals and settle near the best one when you home hunt. I have yet to make it to the second one on the other side of Cincinnati because I have so much backlog plus it's time consuming to shop the entire store. The other store used to post their extra percent off info under the store locator section on Dillard's website (the one close to me never does but it's close enough to pop into to check), but I've only looked once recently and it wasn't there. Maybe check yours to see if they update the info as that could help you decide which one to frequent.

(((Kat and brother))) (((Pyrex)))
I finally had to turn off the news yesterday. The description by Gen. Kelly of how they pack the bodies in ice, dress them in their uniforms, and notify the families just really got to me.
I have an acquaintance who says things to me like, "I can't imagine the pain you're going through right now." My son is alive and healthy, serving in Afghanistan. I don't need that kind of statement from her. Just asking how he is or if I've heard from him recently is fine, but her statements are over the top.

kat you're an awesome sister. That is a lot of hard work. Hugs to you! val2525 Make sure you find the phone number for the Dillards. I have mine and the Vegas ones saved in my phone. You typically just call the # and there is a recording of that weeks sales. They typically do an additional 50% off the entire store on the holiday shopping days (Veterans Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, etc). Then there are the managers special racks. I LOVE me a Dillards Outlet! I watch Gen Kelly's press conference. One of my first jobs in the AF, I had to train on mortuary affairs. Field training and exercises were all about how we run a casualty collection point and how to pack and transport remains. I've visited Dover and they took us through the entire process that they do there. From notification to burial. To taking care of our deceased to taking care of the families. It's very sobering. And I'm so thankful I have never had to use the skills I was trained for. Emerald_Door I think some people simply don't know what to say. They can't even imagine anything that a deployed service member or their family goes through during a deployment (or even training exercises).

We are still unsure of the circumstances that led to his fall. He was found on the ground at his ex's boyfriend's house where he was a guest. They were all amicable and my brother was there helping out on a project. His neck was broken without a bruise or scratches on his body and he has no memory of the night. He is a C3 ASIA A, which is the classification for his quadriplegia. He is a complete quad with arm movement, but can't feel his arms or hands. He's only the 8th person in the US to get the highest dose of stem cells and he is getting more range of motion and occasional pains (good sign) in the fingers. Thank you everyone for the kind hugs and words.

Emerald, some people think they have to say something even on uncomfortable subjects and do so without thinking. The fact that you call her an acquaintance and not a friend says something about they type of person she is though. Maybe reply with, "We are very proud of [son's name]" The ironic thing is that this same woman confided in me a few months ago that she has non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She said that she has told very few people because she doesn't want people asking how she is all the time. She only told me because she's on a committee that I'm heading, and she was going to be missing some of the meetings because of her treatments. I don't ask probing questions or make emotional statements to her about her illness because clearly that's the way she wants it.

I didn't know there were 2 Dillard's clearance centers here. One day I hope to figure out how to shop for resale there. I went with a friend a few weeks ago and left with these exact boots. Now I want a black pair but they're too pricey in my size new on Ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/Sam-Edelman-Louie-Women-US-8-Tan-Ankle-Boot-Pre-Owned-1492-/142535146938?epid=1402007001&hash=item212fc1bdba:g:WAMAAOSwg0BZ3VlvI would get a lot more work done if I didn't have Direct Tv but at least I get my money's worth. Just eliminate premium channels that I never watched, knocked about $80 off my bill but it's still pricey.

Now I want a black pair but they're too pricey in my size new on Ebay. I do believe it's an art form LOL! Research. Know what items they get. Know what items Dillards sells. Follow the sales. Learn the sales pattern. Chase the managers racks. Ask employees about upcoming sales (I only have 1 lady that does that for me). Buy off season. (I get sandals in the winter and coats/sweaters in the summer). I use the Dillards credit card to earn 10% off coupons. But PAY IT OFF as soon as I get home. Or at least in 2 payments when I do a $800+ trip. ETA: If I were in Phoenix and they had 2, I would snoop and do research with the employees. Are both stores getting the same inventory from the same stores, just split up? Or is it regional? (say the one in the south gets the inventory from Region 1 and the one in the north gets their inventory from Region 2, etc). One store may get higher end fashion and one may get lower end.

I think the Dillard's would be just what we do with thrift shops. For thrifting I have a calendar of all sales, tag sales (and their markdown cycles), store-wide sales, holiday sales, manager sales, senior days, etc. I track all that stuff and either show up just before sale day (in the evening when they're done racking) or after the first rush in the morning (the first rush, I've found out, is usually people going for housewares and children's stuff). When the tags start at 30%, go to 50% and then $1.79 at the GW, I go first thing on 30% day...get what I think will be gone at that mark-down, then 50% to look at more expensive items, then $1.79. Stuff that wasn't there before gets put out - I don't know why. I found an authentic Christian Dior Paris vintage suit on the 1.79 rack that I swear hadn't been there before ? Or maybe it was hidden.
But similar - mark up everything. I like the plain old fashioned calendar for that - with blocks for days.

I earned a perma-ban in the eBay forums today. I simply asked why he thought anyone cared about how eBay has made things harder for him. He attacked my character, said that none of my posts were helpful and that I must have such a sorry life that I have to post things like that all the time. I pointed out that I was the #1 most helpful poster in the Seller forum, #3 in another and very high in two others and that we shouldn't be comparing our negative posts. I even told him that I didn't agree with eBay's changes a lot of times, but I sure wouldn't come to the forums to post about them and that I'd rather figure out solutions than come incite a riot Not one time did I call him a name, say his business sucks, tell him he's a whiner or anything...I just simply asked 'why would anyone here care?' LOL Banned permanently...oh well.

Kat- That was a very generous thing for you to do.
Val, now you have me itching to go to the Dillard's clearance center here. It is probably about 45 minutes from me and I just have never made the drive. Maybe I can convince DBF to go next weekend and we could make a day of it.
I work up this morning thinking I was feeling better but by evening I knew that I am getting bronchitis....again. I have had it so much I know exactly what it feels like when it is coming on. Every single time I have become sick with anything ear, nose, and throat related I get bronchitis. I have it at least twice a year, every year. I have to work tomorrow but I might just have to stop into quick care and see if I can get some medicine. I don't understand why I am so prone to getting it. I don't smoke (never have) and neither does DBF. I am rarely around cigarette smoke either. My parents did smoke (and in the house) growing up but my tendency to come down with this constantly started after I moved away from home.
And on top of that I finally thought overtime was done and someone resigned, effective immediately, today. I am praying I get this new job. I do not want to work more overtime but given this person quitting and another going to drill for the army I am the only one left who knows how to do the role. Ugh, come on new job!

Bliss, there is a Dillards outlet at metrocenter and the other is at fiesta mall. Metro had more jr stuff, more higher end and more home. Fiesta had far more shoes, very little home and lots of jrs and misses. I think metrocenter had more mens. That was this week, dont how the balance will be next week. Both are big stores. Closed on mondays, sales for the week start every tuesday.
I only found stuff for me yesterday at fiesta but found 4 nice items for ebay at metrocenter today.
Pyrex, took me almost an hour to get to the danged dillards today. Its by the interstate and i made the mistake of leaving abt 3, when rush hr kicks off here. Double whammy. Tomorrow is half off at gw. I'm going to try to hit 2 stores by me before i go look at an apartment and then meet my niece for lunch.

I made all of my rounds today, no patience for the the GW Saturday sales. I don't see myself ever hitting the Metrocenter Dillards Clearance Center, not crazy about or familiar with that area (except for the thrifts of course). There is a new GW right by Metrocenter (Dunlap Exit), it's seems to by dry more often than not though. When I was the Fiesta Mall Dillards I noticed there was a huge shoe selection, I'm good at flipping shoes but the price has to be right.

Fingers crossed for the new job Pyrex! And I hope you get to feeling better soon. I will only shop Dillards shoes if it's 50% off or BOGO free. That only happens about once a month. Sometimes more often, just depends on how many pairs they get in that week. And only certain brands. Sometimes even with that sale- it's still not worth it. Just gotta put in the research

Yeah, I know nothing about clothing or clothing brands but I'm really good with shoes. I love shoes but I can see how you'd have to be careful even with 50% off. I really don't have the extra cash flow to invest right now but it's temping. Is it a mad house when shoes are bogo or 50% off?
C n I breezed through one year (tomorrow). Too old to be getting excited over such nonsense but it is an accomplishment we're equally excited about (a really easy one too). So tonight we're skipping the dive bar and going somewhere that requires reservations (he made them and even specified outdoor seating). Oh and I got him one of those cheesy Hallmark between you & me cards that I always used to scoff at ❤️

We're having a salmon bake here for my brother and SIL - a bunch of the family coming over. The DH is in a freaked out driving frenzy- woke up at 5 am all bug eyed. My telling him that it's very casual and the family is not judgmental just made it worse so I just shut my mouth. He's like a force of nature and the house is clean. I'm doing all the cooking. He was like "oh." When I said I didn't ask for anyone to bring anything, but it was so hard to get a headcount and coordinate that it's just easier for me to do all the cooking. We're having wild salmon with the special recipe my uncle used to use, very fresh, with a tzatziki sauce on the side, Mediterranean avocado salad (my recipe), rustic potato bread, rice pilaf, olives, etc. Bro is bringing a pie as we're a pie family. I haven't laid on a big dinner in years and it's a bit of a big deal. I told the DH to just keep the drinks coming (limonata, pop, beer, wine) and entertain everyone so I can just cook.

Pyrex, do you touch your face a lot? Rub your eyes/nose/whatever? You're touching things that come direct from people's germy hands, so you need to keep those hands away from your face. You may not even be aware of habits you have. Yes, I'm a germaphobe. But I also rarely get colds. If I get a cold it will turn into bronchitis more often than not. The last coughy disease I had was whooping cough, in 2015. And it's air-borne, so there was nothing I could do to avoid it. I don't believe in anti-bacterial wipes and sprays when out and about. I have wipes with me, but they're for genuine, chunky dirt. The rest of the time I just avoid stuffing my germy digits in my vulnerable orifices.
