I am living in a big house renting a room upstairs. There are several other tenants in side buildings. One is a guy with 2 big dogs that he walks a couple of times a day on a leash. The yard is a couple of acres and he walks his dogs near the driveway. How do I nicely tell him to pick up his dog poo? Shall I tie plastic bags to his door with a note? Run out there with a bag holding it out to him the next time I see him out there? LOL I think I will piss him off no matter what I say about it.

I would tie a poo bag to his door without a note. He wont know where it came from but will get the message.

Or a sticky note that says "poo goes in here, thanks!"

I lived in an apartment in Dallas where I had to pay pet rent and the landlord told me that was to pay for the yard guy to pick up poo. So I didn't. I was paying pet rent. Ends up he didn't have a yard guy and one tenant got mad at all of us with dogs for not picking up poo, we told him to stuff it and complain to the landlord since we were all paying $25 extra a month. This was back in the 90's before it was 'the thing to do' to charge pet rent.

Well, this is just me, but when the neighbors kids played their music VERY LOUDLY for days on end until 1 or 2 in the morning (in the summer when the windows were open no less) I pretended I was talking on the phone with my friend so they could overhear and "told" how awful it was not being able to sleep with all the noise from next door. I haven't heard anything from over there until they got the stupid roosters who crow every morning at 4:30!! But it's better than that awful rap music their kids played. Or I would put an anonymous bag with a "Poo Bag" note written on it in Sharpie marker and hang it on his door. But that's just me!!

I think there are fines here for not picking up your poo. I'd report them to someone (not sure who). I worry about dealing with a crazy nut who would seek some kind of revenge if I were to confront them. I have some next door neighbors who are raising up a big brood of kids, they're all pretty young still but man oh man do I hope to be out of this neighborhood before they're all teenagers. A 55 and over community is extremely appealing to me even now but I have 10+ years to wait.

I know they can fine you for not picking up your dog poo on public property, but private property is different. Anyone can have dog poo in their yard if they really want it. I would leave the poo bag on the door, but if that doesn't work -My father does have a great solution to this problem. He did it with a neighbor and it worked pretty well. Dogs will eat anything with bacon grease on it. Microwave the bacon and keep the grease. Pour grease on the poo and it disappears (it's even better if the owner witnesses it disappearing, ). Usually solves the problem. Funny too. Just don't get yourself in trouble over it.

No no no no to the bacon grease idea.
I think you should just ask him if he'd start picking it up. Be nice about it, maybe hand him some bags. And then state your concerns that there's a lot of dog poop being left around and dogs may be banned from this place if people don't start picking up after them. Then go on to say how much you like his dogs and everyone elses. And that you wished the others would start doing the same and maybe he could help talk to the other residents.
If done correctly - by the end of the conversation, the both of you are in this together to get everyone to pick up after their dogs.

If done correctly - by the end of the conversation, the both of you are in this together to get everyone to pick up after their dogs. He is the only one with dogs on the property. The landlady said she told him to walk the dogs outside the gate and I saw him do that a couple of times 2 weeks ago. I talked to him about internet connections when I had the problem getting a connection as he has a century link connection too. But that is the only subject I brought up. I was trying to catch him in the act of his dogs taking a dump to say anything. The one dog is a rottie weighing at least 100lbs. and looks mean. He was loose one day and it scared me as I did not see him coming my way. He (owner) said to just stand still while he put the leash back on... yeah right as if I am going to pet the black beastie with the big teeth that weighs more than me! LOL The other dog looks like a mix breed and just follows the rottie on the walks. Even the owner has a problem with the rottie pulling on the leash as I can see him struggle to control the dog. That is one very strong dog. He has a glass front door to his downstairs unit and I have to pass it going to dump the trash. The dog barks his head off showing lots of teeth every time I walk by too. It looks like he goes to work at around 4am and returns in the afternoon... so I was trying to catch him in the afternoon. There are several fresh piles out there towards the front of the property. Note that I am the only female living on the property besides the female owner. The other couple of renters are young guys that probably don't give a hoot about poo as they never walk on the grass. And I am probably an old lady to them... and you know how the young ignore/avoid the old folks in their life. I frequently see the dog owner outside talking on his cell phone. There is a "metal" roof on the house and evidently there is a bad cell phone connection for some services. I have no problems with my Verzion service on my cell phone but anyone with AT&T or Sprint will not get a connection indoors under this metal roof. Lucky for me I have Verzion cell connection and at least 3 bars most of the time inside my room and patio. So the dog owner is outside a lot on his phone. I thought it best to be able to point out a fresh pile on the grass when I say something... but he is pretty fast to return to his room and is gone by the time I get downstairs to ask him when he has his dogs in tow.

Okay - scratch what I said.
Talk to the landlord about it and ask her to deal with the situation. Does she keep up on the yard?

I agree with Dantes. It's not really your issue. You should complain to the owner / landlord.

Sherlock.... as a rottie owner/lover as well as a pitty owner/lover I will say this. It pizzes me off when ANYONE who has a breed that many people fear are not responsible owners. The fact this douche bag allows his dog off leash in the first place tells me what an inconsiderate IDIOT he is! And rotties are known for their stare. They have a look that goes deep into your soul. Many people fear rotties just because they do look so intimidating but as one who has owned the breed for 30 years I know they are big smush balls. I would be the one NOT being afraid...but that's me. I am one who is called in to temperament test these black beasties as you call them lol. Anyway I know you are not ballsy like I am but I am a confront type person NOT a subtle type person. Bag on the door? NOT! I have had two issues with people and their dogs pooping on my property. One was a neighbor who lived across the street and about 2 houses down. I went and spoke with them once. As nice as I know how to be. The second time I flat out told them there would be no third time. The third time I filled a bag with the poop, walked across the street and threw the bag against their front door...which entailed the bag bursting open and going all over their door. Ya, they called the cops and when the cops left the OWNERS had a ticket, I didn't get jack and the dog never pooped in my yard again. The second was at a flip house we were doing. I was not so nice this time. I gave the owner ONE verbal warning. The next time the cops were there....because she called them because I apparently had scared her so bad ....and again NOTHING happened to me and not a single poop after that. I will implore you to NOT do anything that may affect/harm the dog. I know the poop pizzes you off but it's not the dogs fault. Don't make the dog suffer for the stupidity of the owner. I assume the dog is on the property. If not...if the owner even steps off the property without a leash call the cops. Most places have leash laws for a reason. You can call those in and not leave a name. Also in many places if an owner leaves their property they must have a poop bag with them. If this idiot doesn't he can get a ticket for that as well. I guess for you and you not wanting to cause waves the best thing would be for you to take it up with the landlord.

LOL Harley...
I live in a gated house. There are other rentals here with mine. I am the only renter living in the main house while these guys are off to the side in what looks like a converted garage where the owner added an upstairs. These are tenants living next door to me on the same property.
I would not do the bacon grease thing so no worries but it made me laugh when I read it. I was thinking of watching for when he was home & walking the dog in the front yard... and walk into a pile on purpose... and then go to his door and express my thoughts on the matter while pointing to my shoes. Or maybe I will stroll out there and point out the pile while it is being dumped. He took the dogs outside the front gate today and I guess the pile is in the front yard of a neighbor today.
My car is parked out there and you never know what a neighbor might do if they get annoyed. So far they treat me like the youth would treat any OLD person and sort of wave if I wave at them... and sort of ignore me. They are all young guys with young girlfriends visiting on weekends.
If the rot jumps on me or any reason, I am pushing up dasies. I have a neck and back thing... and have been warned by my back doc to be very careful. I will not do the surgery. The rot weighs over 100lbs and fights the leash with the owner. I just have to think of something clever to do/say to make him walk the dogs outside the front gate and leave the deposit elsewhere.
I wonder if there is more than one rottie living here? I could have sworn the dog I saw was all black. Today the dog was brown. Maybe the guy upstairs (his brother) has one too? Or maybe one is visiting this weekend. Ha!
