I had a post about the UK and Ina Steiners article. I added it to this. First: I don't like Ina's article. It's very misleading as it makes it sound like ebay will automatically accept all returns. It's short - www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.plIf you read the actual policy, they will only accept the return when you actually have a return policy. sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/business/news/autumn2017/after-sales This is coming to Ebay US?

So I'm supposed to give "free" shipping and no restocking fee!! So if a buyer just simply changes their mind I'm out both original and return shipping! Yeah, right ebay, why I don't I just pay them to take my item???
And I can't for the life of me figure out the guaranteed delivery thing.

The free returns shipping option is what they are changing to no restocking fee. You don't have to offer that.
There is a thread on guaranteed delivery somewhere around here. LMK if it's not clear. It's actually a really easy program.

I buy tons of stuff online. Nowhere can I send something back and make the company pay for the return shipping. If I return it with their return label they will deduct $6.00 or so from my refund credit. The only place that I have purchased from that does not do this is Zappos.
I just don't get who ebay thinks they are - like some high-end retail place with exclusive customer service? If it was coming out of their pocket there would be no free returns.

Free returns is just another option for sellers to use. If they want to.

They are a legend in their own mind.
Since they can't fix the stuff that would really make things better, they come up with this crap that doesn't really matter.
Like the Guaranteed Delivery. I doubt that was the result of an outcry from a multitude of buyers.
I read somewhere that it was the result of an Ebay meeting with high volume sellers of cheap Chinese crap with warehouses all over the country as a response to sellers on Amazon that sell the same things.
Trying to even the playing field, I guess. Not going to happen.
I just bought a dress on ebay. Didn't even check to see when if was going to be delivered with Guaranteed Delivery or not because I don't care. It gets here when it gets here.

I guess that there are millions of sellers who sell more than 100 items a month, but I don't.

I completely understand not allowing restock fees on free returns. They're no longer free.
I keep saying this - I wish ebay would work on customer retention. Not sure what that looks like, but all the people at the top making the big bucks needs to figure it out. Or hire someone to figure it out.

Remove watermarks by March 1, 2018. Anyone use them? How difficult is that going to be to correct? Liz, you have your store name in your pictures but it's not what I consider a watermark--will you have to remove it?

They are a legend in their own mind. Since they can't fix the stuff that would really make things better, they come up with this crap that doesn't really matter. This new "simplified search" that is coming soon, that Wenig was bragging about to Wall St. Bet anything it messes up those selling well and further pits those with so-so sales. Just like when they launched cassini can't-see-me. That Lawton guy got fired for his Seller Hub abomination, the cassini guy got fired way back for that search that wasn't supposed to work the way it does, and now this carp. Maybe they need to get rid of Wenig like they did Donahoe. He came on strong for small sellers at the beginning but seems to have dropped the ball big time.

let me just say....
SIGH.
more busywork for me for zero reason. i have watermarks on every gallery pix. i don't have the time or the inclination to remove them. i am opted out of the catalog for a reason and have no desire to let my pictures be used by the masses.
sales really don't justify the hours of work this will take.

I'm waiting on eBay to define what exactly their definition of a watermark is. Mine are put there via Picasa. They call them a watermark.
I have a gut feeling they may extend the watermark date. There are tons of big sellers that easily have 15K+ listings, all watermarked. Already at eBay's ear about it.
My take? Change is fine. I can pretty much have all my pics with watermarks cycled out by March (6 months away still). If not, it won't be a terrible amount to have to deal with by that time. (ETA: Because if my item hasn't sold by March - it'll be stale and ready for new pics anyways).
My take is that Guaranteed Delivery was rolled out to compete with other places. When customers NEED something right away (think outside of the used clothing box) they tend to go directly to Amazon. eBay is putting their $$ where their mouth is (literally - the $$ is coming out of their pockets, not the sellers) to gain customers. Hopefully that will retain them. I think it was something like 95% of all eBay packages are delivered within 3 days anyways. Customers don't think to shop on eBay if they NEED something. Look at past posts on this board. Plenty of us use Amazon for one reason or another. They're known for fast shipping.

Not all of us sell used clothing but many of us sell HTF items, unusual media, small seller offerings, etc. eBay is drifting from its original remit. It's not going to succeed in this constant chase after Amazon, it has the wrong marketplace structure.

I use Amazon because of a trust issue. I trust FBA more than I trust an individual seller on Ebay for those things that I can't buy locally or find for a better deal than locally.
A lot of those sellers on Ebay that have the same things as Amazon are drop shipping from them anyway so I just cut out the Ebay middleman.
Even if the item is a little cheaper on eBay I will still go with FBA by Amazon.

They were boots, and I know I mentioned this before. Amazon is reliable, period. I have complete trust in them. And I can immediately cancel and order and reorder something else without a bunch of brain damage. It doesn't happen often, but it's happened. I will pay to be a prime member.

I agree with this, Liz.
Amazon has always been reliable and rock solid. Whereas, ebay - it varies from seller to seller. This is where continuity comes in. I don't want to figure out what is going on with each seller.
And as a BUYER, I hate wading through all the same stuff.

I am not a Prime member but my stuff still gets here in record time especially since they opened the warehouse about 45 miles away. even before that, I would be surprised at how fast things got here without paying for Prime.
But, it is not about the speed. It is about the trust and ebay can't do anything about that.
Especially after you think you are weeding out the China stuff but it is still there because a Chinese seller has some bogus address in New Jersey or wherever that they are using as their location.

Same here Kritter. I've received a few things in Amazon packaging that I purchased from ebay sellers. It comes with a little piece of paper that says "a gift for you" or something like that. That's how they get around it.
I know that ebay doesn't give a flip about bad sellers - we see it all the time - accounts with so many negs, neuts, etc., and still up and running on ebay. I don't trust the big sellers on ebay at all. I will buy on Amazon instead, even if a few bucks more.
Sad that us ebay sellers feel this way, but the good sellers are so far and few between. I've been burned so many times with inferior products, not as described, or long excessive shipping delays. What pisses me off is the notice that the item has shipped - and then they take their good old time getting it to the PO. That's what caused a lot of the problems with shipping and scans - sellers trying to cash in on same or 1-day shipping to get their almighty monthly discount by printing the label and then holding the merchandise until they would finally get off their butt and get it packaged and actually in the mail.
I remember one big seller on GMM that said this awhile back..... "just print the label - don't worry about when you mail the package".... in regards to getting the discount. So ebay had to crack down on that and it now affects even those of us that don't try to get the FVF discount.

With hearing all of this, it makes me think:
This is EXACTLY why eBay is making all of these changes. Even long time sellers don't trust other sellers. So, they're giving sellers the tool to have the opportunity to be weeded out/stand out. You will soon be able to filter by / or already can filter by: Returns accepted Free returns ((and now automatically approved returns)) Guaranteed shipping
They may have lost trust in some "old timers" but they have to reach out and try and lure in others. Somehow.
"That's what caused a lot of the problems with shipping and scans - sellers trying to cash in on same or 1-day shipping to get their almighty monthly discount by printing the label and then holding the merchandise until they would finally get off their butt and get it packaged and actually in the mail."
Which I believe is why now we are measured on delivery times and they'll look back to the actual acceptance scans.

Maybe another good idea would be to dump all these Chinese sellers that sell coats/dresses/everything else for $1.99 and then close their account when the negs start rolling in.
Maybe find a way to keep them gone instead of them being able to close one account and open up another one to do the same thing.
"Old timers" know about those scams but these new buyers they are trying to lure in will think it is a great deal because, after all, it is on ebay so it must be OK.
But I guess Guaranteed Shipping and Free Returns outweigh getting rid of the scammers with hundreds of Negative FBs and outright rip off artists.

I'm a Prime member because I like all the perks such as music, video and photo storage as well as Prime shipping. I'm thinking of stopping buying on Amazon after reading on so many groups on FB how people dumpster dive behind GNC, Ulta, CVS, etc and send in their treasures to Amazon FBA. I'd prefer to pay a bit more and go to the retailer site rather than take a chance on things exposed to the elements. They are probably fine, but it ruined my view of Amazon to read where a lot of sellers find stuff.

I'm wondering how they can guarantee delivery? My seller hub says tracking uploaded on time and validated 100%. Late shipment rate 1.16%. Well if my tracking was uploaded and validated within in my 1 day shipping, that's obviously the post office being late. So how is there a guarantee?

eBay is coming out of their pocket - they're gambling that USPS is going to do their job and deliver the items on time. If the seller doesn't do what they say as far as shipping on time ,then it comes out of the sellers pocket. There is a whole thread and discussion about how the guaranteed delivery program works.

I have a gut feeling they may extend the watermark date. There are tons of big sellers that easily have 15K+ listings, all watermarked. Already at eBay's ear about it. I was wrong. They've dropped the "no watermark" policy. Voices in numbers help. That's why it's important if you don't like something, you need to do more than just say "that sucks". You need to tell eBay directly and let your voice be heard! community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Watermark-Removal-Policy-Enforcement-Update/ba-p/27803744I actually just messaged the eBay For Business FB page this morning telling them how much I love the new setup of the Promotions Manager. But they REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY need to give sellers the ability to add products to a current promotion. I told them I had to end 2 promotions then go back and redo them (the next day) to add new items. What used to take me 3 minutes took me 1.5 hours. ETA: They've already messaged me back telling me that I'm not the first one to complain and they will pass my dislike to the team along with the others! Sounds like whoever was on the other end of my message agrees. SO - If you want that ability, I would recommend letting them know.
